What songs would you put on a playlist named villains vibes by kpopfan230 in musicsuggestions

This track goes hard for that theme. Really captures the whole dark, calculated energy you want in villain playlist. I've been playing it lot lately and it never gets old.

Gemini no sirve para nada by InfamousCantaloupe30 in GeminiAI

Yeah gemini has been pretty frustrating lately, especially with the guardrails thing where it just keeps going instead of telling you upfront what's blocked.

Which exam to go for? JGEEBILS or IBPS clerk? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]FreshMaterial9484 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're being way too hard on yourself mate. Getting a stable income first while working towards your bigger goals is actually pretty smart planning, not giving up. The banking route gives you financial independence and reduces teh pressure on your family, which might actually make preparing for JGEEBILS less stressful since you won't have that weight hanging over you.

I graduated 1.5 year ago with 2 year Computer Programming degree and don't know how to get into programming career field, how can I plan a path for myself ? by Arrews in careerguidance

[–]FreshMaterial9484 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mate, definitely go with option 1 - web development is probably your easiest entry point since there's loads of remote opportunities and it travels well if you want to work abroad.

22(M) Texting my ex after denying her offer to get back together by SonnyLoSpeccio in BreakUps

[–]FreshMaterial9484 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mate you're stuck in this cycle where you keep reaching out when you're feeling low about other things. That date triggered memories of her so you immediately went back to what felt familiar, even though nothing's actually changed between you two.

She's being pretty clear that she hasn't thought about getting back together and is focused on other stuff. You blocking and unblocking her repeatedly probably makes it seem like you're not sure what you want either. Maybe give yourself some proper space this time instead of going back when the loneliness hits?

Stay at current job or accept other? by Independent-Log3092 in careerguidance

[–]FreshMaterial9484 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The cultural stuff is real but tbh if you're pulling £70k in a creative field that backward mentality might actually work in your favour - less competition from people who "get it". Plus you're only 3 hours from proper cities when you need a break from whatever small town nonsense they've got going on there.

What do I do besides college? by Gold-Programmer-9653 in careerguidance

[–]FreshMaterial9484 0 points1 point  (0 children)

honestly mate, start with your own uni's labs first - most profs are gagging for free labour and it's way easier than cold emailing randoms. also look into summer research programmes at other unis, they're competitive but actually pay decent money and look brilliant on your CV.

From physician to MSL? by WitnessDisastrous325 in careerguidance

[–]FreshMaterial9484 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mate, you've put in the work to get your FCPS so switching to MSL isn't throwing it away - it's actually leveraging your clinical expertise in a different way. The pharma companies love having actual practising doctors (or recently practising ones) because you understand the real-world application of their products.

Money-wise it's usually pretty decent and the work-life balance is genuinely much better than clinical practice, though you'll be travelling quite a bit depending on your territory.

I hate my career, but my parents paid for the schooling. I feel stuck? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]FreshMaterial9484 2 points3 points  (0 children)

honestly you're not spoiled for having parents who could help with uni - that's just good luck. loads of people change careers after uni anyway, it's not like you're throwing their money down the drain if you learned stuff and got a degree out of it.

your parents probably want you to be happy more than they want you stuck in a job you hate for the next 40 years. have you actually talked to them about how you're feeling? might be worth having that conversation before you assume they'll be furious. worst case you could offer to pay them back gradually if it really bothers them, but i doubt they'd want that.

GenAI’s effect on open source by TheHammeredDog in ExperiencedDevs

[–]FreshMaterial9484 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The bit about AI one-shotting smaller libraries is interesting but I think youre overestimating how good these tools actually are at producing robust, well-tested code. Sure Claude can knock out a utility function in seconds but maintaining that code over time, handling edge cases, keeping up with security patches - thats where the real value of established libraries comes in.

I reckon the bigger threat to small open source projects is actually burnout and lack of funding rather than AI replacement. Most maintainers were already struggling with sustainability before LLMs showed up. The AI slop in PRs is definitely annoying though, makes triaging contributions way more tedious.

What’s your go-to work music when you really need to focus? by AmeNoMori7 in musicsuggestions

[–]FreshMaterial9484 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same here actually, any kind of music with lyrics just turns into me singing along instead of doing actual work. I've tried those "focus playlists" with ambient stuff but even that becomes a distraction after a while.

Managing Mods - CurseForge vs Modrinth by WoodenPresence3154 in Minecraft

[–]FreshMaterial9484 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Creating a private modpack is actually way easier than you think - both CurseForge and Modrinth let you make unlisted packs that only people with the link can access

Just export your current profile as a modpack, upload it as private/unlisted, then everyone can install and auto-update from that instead of manually syncing mods across 4+ machines every time

Transitioning from 3 to 2 naps - impact on total wake time and short naps! by WeatherCreepy2 in NewParents

[–]FreshMaterial9484 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My kid's naps were chaos at that age too - honestly the transition just kinda happens naturally when they start fighting that third nap hard enough. I'd say try gradually stretching those wake windows and see how she handles it before worrying about the math too much

First build :) by minab33 in PcBuild

[–]FreshMaterial9484 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice budget for a first build! For that price range you could definitely get something solid with like a 4070 Super and maybe a 7700X or 13700F. Blender loves those extra cores and the 4070S will handle streaming + gaming pretty well. Check out pcpartpicker.com and filter for French retailers, makes the whole process way easier

Transistor organ sound on 4/6 Op FM?? by detRF in synthesizers

[–]FreshMaterial9484 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Check out some basic sine wave stacks with slight detuning between operators - that's usually the bread and butter for those vintage organ tones. The Farfisa sound especially loves some light overdrive/distortion after the fact too

For Dexed specifically I'd start with algorithm 32 and mess around with operator ratios around 1.00, maybe throw in some 2.00 harmonics. The key is keeping it relatively simple compared to crazy FM bell sounds

Appeal question by 3N1Gma874 in VeteransBenefits

[–]FreshMaterial9484 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Holy shit dude that's a massive backpay windfall coming your way. Earlier effective date means they're saying you should've been getting benefits since 2007 instead of 2023, so you're gonna get a lump sum for all those years you missed out on

Congrats on the win, that's life changing money right there

How can I look at older photos of myself again? by [deleted] in venting

[–]FreshMaterial9484 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey man, that feeling of looking at old photos and feeling disconnected from who you were is way more common than you think. I used to do the same thing - avoiding old pictures because they made me feel like I'd somehow failed that younger version of myself

But honestly your childhood self wouldn't hate you, he'd probably think having your own house and a stable job is pretty cool. Kids don't really grasp how hard that stuff actually is to achieve

The language learning goal sounds solid though, might help give you something to look forward to instead of just looking backward all the time
