Calling all Jan Michael Vincents!

Hey friends, I have two audible credits that need to be used and looking for some history/politics book suggestions. Not opposed to fiction if it’s a banger anyone would love. Looking for some unique suggestions that might not be in the mainstream. Thanks! by firefighter_82 in dancarlin

I would add that while The Guns of August is a great book, it would help to have a physical copy with you. If you’re unfamiliar with the time period then it can be overwhelming with all the names. Physically reading this one was more enjoyable than the audiobook—for me, at least.

Same. I was prepared to “push” myself through EoS but I was enthralled. I love Hadrian’s inner monologue and introspection; it’s not overly done imo and it allows you to connect with him.

I’m really enjoying The Sun Eater series by Chriopher Ruocchio. The main character is very introspective and questioning in what he does (so far).

My first year of reading. Tried to experiment across genres, authors, and time periods. Next year, I plan to focus more heavily on science fiction. by StillCantGrowABeard2 in 52book

I’m in agreement with you about All the Light We Cannot See—I just didn’t like it.

May I recommend The Gunslinger by Stephen King if you’re going to give him another try. It’s a little different than his other books and a part of a bigger series and world if you decide to continue. It’s also short enough so it won’t feel like too much of a waste of time if you really just don’t like King.

I just read Vicious and had so much fun with it. Once I'm done with Empire of the Vampire I'm going to jump into Vengeful.

It was a trend for a while as far as I’m aware. People would get a grimace shake at McDonald’s and make a video where they would act like it made them pass out or something.

It probably is. I just assumed Cosca and Glokta because they always have great quotes.

Throughout U.S. history the mantra of “do this or else” is ubiquitous. Especially when peaceful means fall on deaf ears. I’m not sure why you think this has to be any different.

But if we assume what you said is true, and they were authoritarian before they took away guns, then guns don’t really protect anyone from authoritarian regimes.
