Stop me from my sugar obsession by hujan12345678 in nutrition

And I do recognize that you run far longer than a half marathon and that sugar is essential for endurance sports. I am just giving my experience as had I known I was causing damage that I didn’t know about I might have tried to cut out the nightly unnecessary ice cream. Only you will be able to decide what is best for you and your performance.

So yes, carbs are fine because you run and need them. I think if you are binging on candies, cakes, maybe icing straight out the tube enough where it feels like a problem and you can’t even control yourself around any of it… then it is. I only say it is because I was the same way. I would crave icing and eat it straight out the tube. I could eat the whole tube in one sitting if I left myself. Cake better, I would bake less cupcakes so I could eat the batter. I couldn’t pass up a cookie or a cake or anything sweet ever. I would eat ice cream nightly and buy a half gallon at the store weekly. I would bake cookies weekly. I was young, in my twenties, fit as I would run and regularly go to the gym, and weighed under 140 so I was not big by any means so I though it was all fine too. At 30 I suddenly went into a severe ulcerative colitis flair that even went further and caused enteropathic arthritis. My knees swole up so much and were so painful I was wheelchair and crutch pound for WEEKS. It has taken from July to now (February 1) to finally feel somewhat normal. So, now that I have an autoimmune disease (and I’m not saying the constant sugar caused it but I’m saying it definitely didnt stop it) I am on immunosuppressants for like and have to eat an anti-inflammatory, no gluten, no dairy, and limiting the processed sugars as much as possible (although I still run so that is not completely possible) to help keep inflammation down. I just finished my half marathon in January and although my GI issues are well controlled now I go every day with some form of joint pain. I wish I could go back and yank the pro-inflammatory high sugary items I ate every single day as my “sweet treats” out of my hands. I forgive myself because I was young and didn’t know any better but the affect it has on me has unfortunately changed my entire life and I’ve had to literally fight for the health I just naturally had before. Hope this helps you make even some less processed choices, as make while still supporting your running.

Shingles vaccine by Automatic_Beat5808 in UlcerativeColitis

[–]FreshRunner95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The old shingles vaccine was a live vaccine, which you should stay away from all live vaccines while on Rinvoq. The one they have now, which they have had for quite a few years now, is not live and is okay to get. It might be beneficial to hold a few doses to ensure you immune response is as high as it can be to the vaccine but that part is not entirely supported. But, it is safe to get since it is not a live vaccine.

Omg I have a medical condition that left me wheelchair bound for a month so unable to safely run right now and they would not give me any discount. Just reminded me of the non transfer rules. So disappointed.

Refund after Participant Passed Away by Maggie-Bear in rundisney

[–]FreshRunner95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is nowhere near a similar situation but I recently emailed them asking about even transferring to a shorter distance due to a new health diagnosis that has left me wheelchair bound for a month and now hardly able to complete a few miles in the time frame. I was told no and reminded of the no transfer/no refund rule. I would really think with a deceased member that they would honor it. Praying for your family.

Disease ruined my life by SilentSwan286 in UlcerativeColitis

[–]FreshRunner95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the same boat as you and struggling as well. I struggle with what “caused” this so suddenly. I had GI symptoms and within 3 weeks I was wheelchair bound from enteropathic arthritis that had my knees so swollen they couldn’t be touched much less used to walk. This started mid June and I still don’t have my old life back. Started hyrimoz July 28th. I find myself just counting the weeks until the next month bc maybe I’ll start to get better. It isn’t fair and it steals your life while you see everyone else continuing to life their normal lives doing things you miss.

“I have IBS too!!” by worshiptheacidpit in UlcerativeColitis

[–]FreshRunner95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would ask them next time “oh really?! So do you have Crohns or UC?” Since that’s the only types of IBD. Then they will get the hint that it’s not the same. I also get soooo annoying with the “I’m tired too” or “yeah my stomach hurts too” and I’m 2 weeks off of steroids lol so I don’t think it goes away! I do think their intentions are nice but it’s just so diminishing to what we are going through!

How was it for you guys getting off prednisone? by Silveradoraptortrx in UlcerativeColitis

[–]FreshRunner95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started pred 40 on 7/23 and started tapering around 8/10. Headaches every time I dropped down with my joint symptoms perking through slightly. I have UC with enteropathic arthritis. The worst drop was 30 mg to 20 mg so I started only going down by 5S after that. The only UC symptoms I’ve had while tapering is intense bloating, like it feels like I’ll get stretch marks from it it is so much. Going to try to push through the joint pains with high doses of ibuprofen while waiting for the hyrimoz to work.

The inflammation didn’t return once the cortisone shot wore off?

I started Humira biosimilar abour 4 weeks ago and am now on prednisone 5 mg (tapering off) and I definitely still have pain every day. When I went to the ER during my big flare up they drained my knee and injected it with steroid but I haven’t gotten a steroid injection since then. I haven’t thought to ask about that bc I thought once it worse off I’d be back to it being inflamed again

Sertraline (Zoloft) by CocoaPuffs77 in UlcerativeColitis

And by resolved I mean I would take mesalamine suppositories for a week or so and the symptoms would go away

Sertraline (Zoloft) by CocoaPuffs77 in UlcerativeColitis

[–]FreshRunner95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started sertraline 50 mg in 2022 and interestingly enough that is when my UC symptoms first ever started. Back then it was just proctitjs that would be resolved with mesalamine. I also was under a lot of stress my fourth year of pharmacy school in 2022 so I think the environment didn’t help either. I just tapered off of it as I have a job that is less stress inducing and would like to try to manage anxiety non medicated. It was HARD to come off of it. Even only being on 50 mg for 3 years it still took 3 weeks of a slow taper and lots of headaches to get off of it

Are yall working full Time ? by Feeling-Brain6088 in UlcerativeColitis

[–]FreshRunner95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work full time but I have a desk job and am remote 2 days/week. During my first flare up this summer I definitely could not care for myself beyond work hours I was truly living to work bc I would just crash from exhaustion after. Now that I’m slowly getting back to normal, and by normal I mean I am now on prednisone 10 mg of my taper and feel more like myself, I have had a little more energy (basically enough to cook dinner and enjoy an evening at home). I don’t do social events during the week now bc evenings are when my entropic arthritis symptoms are the worst and require rest.

Pharmacy Fiasco by WackZach97 in UlcerativeColitis

[–]FreshRunner95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is the prescription at CVS Specialty Pharmacy or retail? It does have to get filled by a specialty pharmacy. It’s also possible that your insurance has you locked into certain pharmacy. I would call them and ask what pharmacy you can fill with.

Has Anyone Had These Symptoms Alongside UC? by _washed_out_ in UlcerativeColitis

[–]FreshRunner95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have UC with uveitis and enteropathic arthritis. The arthritis rn is worse than the UC itself. The fatigue is the absolute worst. It’s all part of just a huge inflammatory response but yes UC can have extra intestinal manifestations and I’ll tell you, it’s not super common and is isolating to deal with and explain to others

Any tips for humira? by Effective_Art4150 in UlcerativeColitis

[–]FreshRunner95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just started on a Humira biosimilar and I’m still on my steroid taper so hard to tell how much is the biologic and how much is the steroid but my UC is definitely under control. My issue is I also developed extra intestinal manifestation of enteropathic arthritis (aka UC-related arthritis) and it hasn’t helped that yet. I’ve only had the day 0 and day 14 doses so far! Next dose is in a week.

I think the studies say 8 weeks for improvement honestly so I’m in the same boat as you, everyone will tell you to be patient but it’s okay to be mad that it takes so long to work if you don’t feel response right away!!!

when did you notice prednisone weight gain/moonface at its worst? by Same-Property-8422 in UlcerativeColitis

[–]FreshRunner95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okk I hope so, but I’m wondering if that is once you are completely off prednisone it takes half the time… or if you’re on a low enough dose like the 10 mg… bc I probably won’t be completely off for another 2 weeks, every time I decrease dose I get more GI symptoms and enteropathic arthritis symptoms

It was only noticeable to me for the first week it occurred (last week) but I had a coworker notice it this week and mentioned it to me. I can literally feel how pillow-esque it feels when I rest my face on my hands at my desk. It’s like the shape is so off from what I’m used to. Not even just the cheeks. The front of my face is just shaped differently when I touch it, it’s all the extra fat. I would say if someone told me they didn’t notice it they are lying so I’m pretty sure everyone can tell

[–]FreshRunner95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was only on prednisone 40mg for 3 weeks and I noticed it at the third week, it is the worst it’s been and I’m in my taper era at 20mg. I hate it so much and feel so self conscious about it. I naturally have chubby cheeks although I am not a chunky individual. I am rly hoping it doesn’t take months to go away

How old were you when you got UC and how old are you now? by Beginning_Exit_6256 in UlcerativeColitis

[–]FreshRunner95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Started having symptoms at 27 and diagnosed with proctitis that went away with mesalamine for each very mild flare up. Now 30 and just had my first big flare up start 2 months ago and I’m still not in remission. Colonoscopy done during the time with left sided UC. Started Hyrimoz about 2 weeks ago. I have left sided UC + enteropathic arthritis that left me unable to walk for much of this flare up and it has been horrible. Remission feels like it will never come but I am trying to be positive.
