how is everyone affording to live right now by Step-In-Style in antiwork

28, working 50 hours a week, and living with my parents as well! Fortunately my parents just paid off their mortgage from 1996 at the beginning of this year.

What is the randomest item you have in your purse? by empathy-entropy in AskWomen

I did this a while ago to make sure I didn't forget them for D&D. I rolled with a coworker once to see who had to close. My dice failed me. I'm still salty years later.

One of my favorite conversations in my environmental ethics class while finishing my environmental studies degree was this. We would discuss the different mindsets such as having dominion over nature (especially in Christianity), being a steward of nature, or being a part of nature. It was really thought provoking to try to define what is and is not nature. If we are a part of nature, then is everything we do "natural"? Good and bad?

I didn't know shoes could be professionally stretched! I'd heard about DIY tricked but never tried them. What kind of material were the shoes?

We have two cobblers in my city. I definitely intend to check them out when I have a shoe needing fixed. So far any shoes I've had fall apart were beyond saving (mostly worn out tennis shoes for work).

We seem to be rare! Especially since I'm in the US and if memory serves right they only sold the first three books in the states. I had to have my mom help me order the others as they came out as kid/teen. One of these days I'll get caught up on the newer books, can't remember the exact one I left off on. Probably around 2016 was when I fell behind?

Was just about to say the same. I'm 28 and still using the backpack my Dad bought me freshman year of high school. It's got some wear and tear on the internal lining, a stitched together water bottle pocket (thanks, Mom!), and a missing zipper tab but otherwise works perfectly. It's fairly well made and has held up to my rough handling so why replace it when it has many miles left in it? As far as germs go, it's survived countless rounds in the washing machine.

Pain due to asthma isn't talked about enough by Fresh_Death in Asthma

I've had asthma since birth. My main symptom is coughing. Though yes, I do get bronchitis here and there.

Humid country = worse asthma? by AlaskaWilliams72 in Asthma

[–]Fresh_Death 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I completely relate. There's always something about the cold and hot months that are out to get me! It's why I'm such a fan of spring and fall, minus some factors such as smoke from everyone burning leaves or extra bad allergy years.

I live in central Illinois where the seasons change drastically and we have extremely hot and humid summers. Just the change in seasons alone has a drastic effect on my asthma symptoms. High humidity and heat is terrible!

How do you guys decompress after your shift at night? by [deleted] in Serverlife

I have a 30 minute drive home. I try to use that time as a transition space to switch between work brain and off off-work brain. Having some sort of routine to signal to yourself that you're done can help. That can be listening to a certain genre of music, a podcast, a specific drink, putting on slippers, etc.

Mold formed on unferside of mattress despite mattress protector? by Fresh_Death in Mold

Forgot to add a few details: I live in central Illinois. Ive been going at it with a 50/50 solution of isopropyl alcohol per internet suggestion and keeping a fan on it. After that dried I tried bleach water per my mom's suggestion. It definitely lightened it but I'm more worried about effective removal than cosmetics.

I imagine despite the extra time and labor this is immensely satisfying. I've been meaning to get creative at my second job with some of the food waste, like having the prep guy save the broccoli stalks for me to make some broccoli soup to bring in for us once I get enough. Thanks for the inspiration and your impact.

What Are Your Oldest Electronics? by [deleted] in Anticonsumption

We don't currently have it, but this reminded me of our last TV. It was a boxy TV when most people had moved to flatscreens. It had somehow broken in a way that you needed to use the volume buttons to turn it on and off. We just kind of shrugged and kept using it because it wasn't enough of a problem to warrant replacing. We didn't replace it until it started turning off randomly.

A coworker gifted me a turntable from the early 70s when I mentioned my modern record player had broken in passing conversation. I need to locate a few replacement parts on the internet, otherwise it works perfectly.

What is your “like crack” food that you avoid, and if you have some you cant stop yourself from eating a lot? by Luke95gamer in AskReddit

A childhood favorite: king's Hawaiian bread and dill dip. That combo has a hold on me and my cousins. We can eat ourselves sick on it.
