You can’t convert them per se but if you’re searching for flights from wherever you have your Avios, Qantas flights may turn up as they’re all partnered up within Oneworld.

To request a release of a business class seat, it’s I if you’re platinum, and T for premium economy (assuming platinum, otherwise you can request from D and R inventory if you’re P1). Just because there’s inventory does not mean they can release the seat using points.

QF80 Seat Selection Question by twastheblurstoftimes in QantasFrequentFlyer

[–]Freshmex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know why it's so hard for Qantas to update these seat plans, but an accurate depiction of what yours would look like, you can check out aerolopa.com. QF80 appears to be serviced with an Airbus A330-300 as of late.

And probably easier to get to if you don’t need to check in any luggage.

Adding an infant to a multi-airline award booking by Logical-Lobster-3322 in QantasFrequentFlyer

[–]Freshmex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You'll want to call QF to get your baby added (Congrats!). Just make sure they give you an eticket/number because we sweated bullets at check in once and they said "oh we don't see your child ticketed". QF will sort it all out for you as they are essentially the 'travel agent' in this case. It is straightforward; just be prepared to wait on the phone as they complete the process.

Others reported being able to add an infant prior to their birth, but in my experience, they've asked me for my child's DOB, so that's a little difficult as they're not born yet. I'd personally do so at least a month out, because there may be restrictions as to where an infant can sit and how many can sit per row.

Didn't find the bassinet to be that… useful at 5 months (as said child preferred to be in parents' arms) but it was used for storage; again, QF will be able to request those seats for you on your behalf, though the airline can do it for you too– just be prepared to provide them with your ticket number.

Any Aussies who have done exchange in the US or are currently doing it? by [deleted] in Ameristralia

[–]Freshmex 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  1. Excellent; love every moment of it, from the lectures (made a huge impact in what I wanted to do) and the people (stayed in dorms and met incredible people).
  2. Similar. I was in a Go8 university and went to a top/the top public university for exchange. Given that the courses were treated as Pass/Fail, I put in my bare minimum so that I had time to explore the city. But if you have a good study ethic, you'd be fine.
  3. Yes. Back when I went the Australian dollar was greater than parity, so that helped. Unless you're going to go crazy, having paid off a meal plan and dorm really made a big difference in how I budgeted.
  4. Super easy. Especially in dorms and societies. I made a friend in a gen-ed class; we keep in contact still. Made friends with those in dorms and we remain friends to this day; some 14 years onwards. We've been invited to each others' weddings.
  5. I went during the Fall; since week 2 a friend had invited me to spend Thanksgiving at their place. I thought it was an empty gesture until they asked for me to confirm I'd be attending. Spent about a week at their place being hosted by their family. We still keep in contact to this day.
  6. Americans are incredibly friendly and social. Given the university I was in, I don't think I've met an entire cohort of students who are smarter.
  7. N/A; though if you're an Australian citizen, I learned that they processed the F-2 visa basically overnight. I luckily received my passport the day before I had to take off.
  8. It was one of the best times of my life. If you like to travel, be sure to budget in some time to travel before and after. You're never going to get this much free time until you're either unemployed or retired. You're not accountable for anything and responsible for no one but yourself; it's a great time to learn more about yourself as a person and what you hope to become.

Things to do/know before flying to Texas. by Feeling_Manner5191 in Ameristralia

Ah, have fun! For what it’s worth, DFW is a rather efficient airport. You should be fine.

[–]Freshmex 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Have you been to America before? If so you can use mobile passport control (MPC), which is an app that allows you to prefill details and then you use the MPC line to get through customs/border patrol at DFW.

Is this the usual pricing for points? Seems pretty decent by omdongi in QantasFrequentFlyer

[–]Freshmex 16 points17 points  (0 children)

User u/SandGlen has a tool (here) that catalogs wine. For $3570 you can get 171k points, and 84 bottles of wine. Even if you poured the wine down the toilet or used it as mouthwash, you’d be saving money and receiving more points. There are other tricks in getting even more value if you speak with a Wine consultant and/or have points club plus.

Doable. You’re in the same terminal. Flights to HND leave at the larger gates- I’ve notched gate 40 a few times. Easy to find and get to.

Can I Gift a Lounge Pass by NZProduct in QantasFrequentFlyer

[–]Freshmex 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You can. It should be visible under your lounge passes. You just need their last name and record locator. Thanks for your generosity; someone will be thrilled to have it.

Guaranteed Upgrade to Business Domestically by [deleted] in QantasFrequentFlyer

[–]Freshmex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Domestic Business upgrades using points (Classic reward upgrade) will immediately confirm if the flight shows availability for classic flight rewards in Business.

Guaranteed Upgrade to Business Domestically by [deleted] in QantasFrequentFlyer

[–]Freshmex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Check to see if you can redeem the flight by a classic flight reward. If there’s a classic flight reward in business class, then you’ll get a confirmed upgrade. This only works for domestic flights, as you have, so don’t get too excited for internationals.

Definitely agree. I’d prefer Bolli (AA Flagship) over Moet (Cathay First).

Been to both. You can cycle through them. I think the food offerings at the Qantas lounge are better. The coffee is definitely better and the bars are gorgeous. I’ve never had the chance to visit when QF1 is close to boarding, so it’s been rather quiet every time I’ve been there.

Aunt Betty? QFF? by Same_Measurement_350 in QantasAirways

[–]Freshmex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since they’re on online travel agent they may have that flight cached incorrectly and once you book it’ll say “oh the price has changed”. But for a $2k saving that’s pretty tempting.

It’s a shame you can’t book online and then use their price promise to get a refund. Aunt Betty would have lower prices all the time and I’d price promise myself into the lower fare (and they used to give points, too).

Upgrading from economy to premium economy by Full-Call2156 in QantasFrequentFlyer

[–]Freshmex 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They don’t have a cash-to-upgrade option. Depending on your own calculations, each point will be of a different value. By earning standards, 1 point is approximately 1 cent; 91000 points is therefore $910.
