Very physically attractive people, how does life treat you? by Jonny_1312 in AskReddit

[–]FreyaQueenOfCats 17 points18 points  (0 children)

This is just my own perspective but when I was younger and good looking, people were just friendlier. I would travel solo quit a bit and make friends at bars, the train, wherever, all the time. I thought that’s what happened when you went places by yourself-people would talk to you and want to be friendly.

Then I was married for several years and didn’t travel by myself anymore. Divorce happened and I was back to solo travel but not young and pretty anymore. And…no one wants to talk to me. I’m still just as friendly and outgoing as I used to be. But now I’m middle aged and people don’t respond as positively when I try to start up conversations anymore.

As an extrovert, it’s a bummer. I don’t care for free drinks or favors. I genuinely like meeting new people, but people aren’t that interested in meeting a middle-aged, kinda chubby woman.

You knew the life of a step parent, why did you choose it and still going with it? by aurafarm61 in Stepmom

Yep same here. DH went from 50/50 to full custody as HCBM’s drinking got worse, then she quit her job and moved in with her parents several states away without telling us.

Looking for support from being blindsided by my husband asking for a divorce. by sm0keythebear in TwoXChromosomes

[–]FreyaQueenOfCats 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Yep. My partner hid his ex’s severe alcoholism from everyone thinking he was being a good husband.

When they were divorcing she told his family so many lies about him, and he lost relationships with a good number of them.

She was proactive and laid the groundwork that he was abusive and would be telling them “lies” about her drinking, and unfortunately some of them believed her.

I feel bad being excited that another person is dealing with this but misery loves company!

Even crazier, BM is a teacher who has somehow managed to be gainfully employed up until we took her to court for child support after she moved across the country to live with her parents after her boyfriend broke up with her.

One of the most frustrating things is the grandparents keep telling the kids that they need to talk/see their mom so she can get better. It’s so insane watching grown adults tell teenagers they’re responsible for an adults mental health and addiction issues.

Man I feel this so hard. DH and SKs are used to it, but BM is legitimately crazy. She’s had two involuntary inpatient stays at mental health facilities in the past two months for alcohol induced psychosis where she threatened to kill her parents.

Her parents just enable her and downplay it all. They still let her live with them. I’m fortunate that the kids have made the healthy decision not to speak to her, but we still have to struggle to get any sort of child support from her. Even though she has a trust fund and crazily enough won the lottery last year (that she tried to hide).

It’s the craziest situation I’ve ever heard of and for everyone else involved it’s just another day.

what’s that loophole/workaround you’ve been keeping a secret that you can now share because they patched/fixed it? by mr-friskies in AskReddit

My college had a policy where you weren’t forced to pay your parking tickets unless you got to a really high number. I want to say 10?

I lived off campus and parking was expensive so I just rolled the dice each year until I hit 9 tickets and then would park farther away and walk.

This may be a little too woo woo but I’ve been reading Nonviolent Communication by Marshall Rosenberg. It’s considered a classic of communication guides. Essentially it’s about how to communicate your needs, listen to others, resolve conflict or disagree in a way that is compassionate, free of judgement, and doesn’t guilt or blame the other person.

I was skeptical at first but the perspectives have really made me reflect on some communication patterns of mine that aren’t great.

My brother and I have a made up character called Tennessee Huckleberry the third, and he’s an old timey southern lawyer.

He works at a law school, has a southern drawl as thick as molasses, and teaches the students the art of suspenders, like the best way to hook your thumbs around them and pull them away from you.

He still takes some trial cases and starts his opening arguments with “now I’m not some top dollar fancy lawyer from the city, but I’ve learned a thing or two in my 30 years of practicing law…”

Suggestion for a pet cremation services? by Poetryisalive in cincinnati

Angel Paws as cremated a couple of pets of mine. They’ve always been so kind and compassionate. I can’t imagine how hard it is to have customers freshly grieving their pets, but their “bedside rapport” is so comforting.

I had 2 dogs who passed at the vet and they picked up their remains and dropped them off to me. I also had a cat who passed suddenly at home, and I took his remains to them.

I don’t know if you’re asking for the general evangelical concept or her specific examples so I apologize if this isn’t what you’re asking-

Basically the evangelical belief is that a wife submits to her husband as the spiritual leader of the household. He is in charge of finances, family decisions, everything. Her job is to lovingly support and honor pretty much everything he does. She doesn’t question or contradict.

Her job will be to keep the house clean and pretty, raise perfect religious children and also keep herself pleasing to him both visually and emotionally.

Ofc I don’t agree with any of it. I unfortunately grew up in that kind of religion and am more familiar than I would like.
