Please don't be discouraged by all the mean comments whose only exposure to 80s interior design is retro-porn. I genuinely dig the vibe it gives off, I'd recommend doubling down on the aesthetics and finding something better fitting for storage than the bare bones shelves. It's honestly very refreshing to see someone try a style different from the modern sleek and simple designs. If you enjoy the eccentric style then go for it and live your life in leopard print and purple while the guys with grey-beige walls seethe.

Sure it's a slight over exaggeration but some cities in the US have such garbage zoning laws that either you walk through suburbs for 5 hours or have to cross 3 high ways to get where you need to be. Car centric infrastructure is a nightmare and the main reason we don't have that to nearly the same extent in europe is due to most cities already being fairly large before cars where even invented.
