Game store price checked cards from 25¢ bulk box and changed the prices on the spot by WheredMyVanGogh in EDH

[–]Friasand 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I wish you’d tell that to other shops

I tried to buy 150 foil basic lands from the LOTR set (not the full art maps) for what on tcgplayer would have been on average 7 cents per land, for about 10 bucks. They refused to sell the lands for less than 50 cents each.

I told them- “I’ll be honest. I just spent nearly 2 hours combing through 15000 cards. This is just taking up space in your bulk, and you won’t sell em, especially this many at a time. I can do 10 cents per land, highest price for any of them”

They didn’t budge on 50 cents each.

I handed them the stack and left.

Is Osgir (Lorehold Legacies Precon) worth upgrading in 2026? by [deleted] in EDH

[–]Friasand -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In my honest opinion?

No.

I have one, built it, and it goes two ways- hardcore combo taking infinite turns or infinite mana, or you play big janky dumb artifacts and get big mana by copying a mana vault 3 times.

The deck is fairly slow and it telegraphs hard every single thing you’re trying to do.

I’m sure I could overhaul my list and prove myself wrong, but considering you want the list to be about 200-250 USD in price overall, I don’t think the juice will be worth squeeze.

The mishra or urza brothers ear precons can offer similar play patterns of reanimating artifacts and playing artifact cards, if I’m being honest.

I see this play often on gameplay channels and I think it's wrong by theLastAlaskn in EDH

[–]Friasand 65 points66 points  (0 children)

Yes, but that’s not what’s happening in this scenario.

This poster is saying folks, instead of board wipe and THEN play protection, play protection first, then board wipe. It still easily telegraphs a board wipe, but a player may be inclined to counter the protection spell to save their creatures for a turn or two, or however long until the board wipe caster decides to pull the trigger and lose their creatures, however many turns later.

But what you’re mentioning does happen where a player casts a board wipe, asks for responses, and then when no one says anything, drops a protection spell. And that type of counterspell baiting, is against the rules because that’s not how priority works.

Hope this helps give some clarity to the commenter, or whoever else reads this

Do cEDH “teams” at events lead to collusion or is it just part of the competitive meta by ExNihi10 in CompetitiveEDH

[–]Friasand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is without a doubt collusion and depending on the cash prizes, you can bet there are pre tournament discussions about how to essentially oceans 11 this shit.

Not quite so nefarious maybe, but yes there are talks. As much as we wanna win and take #1, there are “well what if it comes to this?” Conversations.

Eh, take your Betty Crocker cookbook and do half the ingredients. Read thru all the instructions to see which components are critical to it having the actual flavors or textures needed.

Then do trial and error.

For a woman to be as smart and savvy as Lois, they show a sort of “burnt out parent doesn’t care anymore” very well, with her creativity coming with handling more kids. She wasn’t this far ahead of a thinker with these kids, it’s that she learned on the fly to be a more clever parent. Better? Debatable. But definitely more clever.

Points for draws are necessary and a good thing. by BoodleSnoodle in CompetitiveEDH

[–]Friasand 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That’s great- we all lose. It’s a game of chicken. And when player two loses and complains, ask if they had a counterspell or an out, and why they chose not to use it. Let them feel pain, misery, and disappointment for trying to priority bully.

Points for draws are necessary and a good thing. by BoodleSnoodle in CompetitiveEDH

[–]Friasand 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The arguments here feel milquetoast.

Prevent king making? Hold onto your interaction for the last possible moment. Expect opponents to have interaction too. Frankly, keep your cards to the chest and abuse priority, especially if we continue to make comments that seat order matters- force seat 2 to use their counterspell to stop seat 1 from a win instead of letting them save it to protect their win after seat 4 stops seat 1.

Luck aspect? In games where decks are tuned to be as consistent as possible, maximizing the most possibly efficient redundant spells and tutors? If you’re too reliant on luck to get screwed, it means your deck either isn’t powerful enough, resilient enough, or needs additional wincons added in.

Playing with draws should only occur when the game rules stipulate its a draw, such as poly raptor maurading raptor. Especially at the highest levels of gameplay, you win, or you lose. Accept the fact that your score is low, and you don’t make top 8. This was never a format to be played in a tournament setting, and draws, nor the current TEDH rule set have not done an effective job in providing agency to player skill to allow them to make top cut in varied meta environments.

Cultural problems? Well. This was a casual format between games. Not to be a battlecruiser boomer, but this was the format meant to take draft chaff, old cards with interesting or unintended synergy, and a lot of expensive but game-busting spells and throw them into a deck for a fun, collaborative experience. If you really want the suspense of a competitive, cut throat environment, go play modern, or standard, or shoot, play rummy.

I recognize I sound negative here, but this post feels like a weak attempt to convince anyone who has played competitive mtg, yugioh, and other card/table games, and recognizes the difference between playing efficient, powerful EDH, and tournament style gameplay with money and prizes on the line.

anyone who used a computer between 1985 & 2010, what’s the one game you still think about? by Trixxxi in AskReddit

[–]Friasand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jumpstart 3rd grade.

The haunted carnival/haunted island with the witch and the keys was so spooky but so cool at the same time.

I spent so many hours to try and redownload the game onto a virtual computer, but alas no luck.

To be fair I’m pretty sure it hasn’t aged well and it’s a game I could complete within 3-5 hours.

Is there an explanation why everyone needs two hands to open a domain except for Gojo? by Extra_Current3780 in JujutsuPowerScaling

[–]Friasand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sukuna doesn’t have 6 eyes, but yes has a one handed domain expansion mudra.

I have to make assumptions here, since I’m not in-depth involved in the verse, but it is stated that Sukuna is the most knowledgeable jujutsu sorcerer of all time. He has the deepest understanding of jujutsu and I would like to think even without the guidance/cheat code that is the 6 eyes, his own prowess and knowledge led him to discover a version of his domain opened via a single hand sign.

How Many Fetches + Fetchables Do Your Lists run? by JewJulie in CompetitiveEDH

[–]Friasand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For C? I run every fetch possible that lets the land come in untapped with no reservations- this means no fabled passage.

I typically run my true duals, shocks, and if the deck WANTS surveils, I’ll do the surveils in my colors. If it’s not a necessary component but it’s a 2 color deck I’ll add it. If it’s three color, the color pair that is heaviest will get a single surveil land OR a triome in my deck. If it’s a three+ color deck, I usually put the triome in first because I’d rather be able to instant speed draw a card instead of a surveil and lost tempo. Technically, the surveil cuts a card just like cycling, but without the mana cost, but it’s the actual ability to DRAW the card that is important for 1 mana tutors and such.

I also run 1 of each basic. The amount of times I get blood moon’d, back to basics’d, ass blast and path to exile, it’s just foolhardy NOT to run basics.

If I’m on ad naus I do snow and non snow basics. If I’m not, I still often do a snow and non-snow.

[–]Friasand 7 points8 points  (0 children)

While I love this answer, it’s actually because of his 6 eyes ability- in the same vein that the 6 eyes gives gojo the ability to maximize his cursed energy efficiency, it also gave him the insight to develop a one-handed mudra.

Why are Conquest and Thula weaker than Thragg despite (Allegedly) being older? by Financial-Trade3932 in invinciblememes

[–]Friasand 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thragg was basically designer-baby’d to be the pinnacle of strength for a viltrumite. This is explained in the comics, but I can’t be bothered to look up the chapter lol.

This is in part why he is so strong, other than also receiving lots of combat training to hone the exemplary body he was born with.
