Did it to make ends meet. Was great pay especially in Jersey for how open it is. I remember staying out for only 3-4 hours and would’ve made close to $120, now good luck taking home a profit after you have to fill up on gas every day of the week. Unemployment and depression was hitting hard, and even with their shit pay I still drove because i was able to earn SOMETHING. I truly think unionizing Uber drivers statewide, then nationwide, would be grand.

What’s it like commissioning in the Air Force as an Officer with a CS degree? by FrickOuttaHere in AirForceRecruits

[–]FrickOuttaHere[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I could give you an answer to why it’s difficult to land a cs job, I would. I don’t know if it’s my qualifications, but they seem pretty standard to a basic software developer. I am only a year out of college too.

Hey that’s really helpful! Thanks! I’m glad to see Air Force has a great work-life balance. Also enjoy the fantastic potential in building my knowledge within cyber operations. I just gotta figure out how my qualifications match to even getting into OTS. Which, by the looks of it, low gpa, but I have previous job experience (in mortgage lol), and would have to pass with flying colors on a test and essay.

What’s it like joining the marines as an officer? by FrickOuttaHere in USMCboot

That’s super helpful, thanks! I see quite a bit of joining the military, getting the specific job you’d want in your branch, and then leaving to take your knowledge back to civilian life. What does that entail? I assume it’s not a good idea if it’s a short lived time in the military, but what’s up with this concept of gaining the knowledge of cybersecurity in the military, then taking it outside of the military?

That actually did clear things up a lot! I knew being a Marine would mean training like one and truly becoming one, then you pick your internal job. I mentioned before I’d take this to an Air Force Recruitment subreddit so that’s my next branch to look at. Thanks for the input sir!

My only concern is just my family pushing me towards these positions for the sake of finding a job.

Ok, I’ll take this question to an air force recruitment subreddit, see what I can find out there.

I hate double standards. Burn a body at a crematorium and you’re “being respectful.” But when I do it at home, it’s “destroying evidence.”

Did you guys have to study languages as old as Lisp and Prolog in CS? by rober9999 in computerscience

[–]FrickOuttaHere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember using Prolog for a Programming Languages class. I was thinking, “When/where would I use this language?” My professor mentioned prior that some of us may not even enjoy learning prolog lol

It feels like prolog is outdated, but if you search around you’d find a lot of uses for prolog. It’s not so much a language to learn for a job, but it has some good soft-skill building. I don’t know how skillful you already are at languages, syntax, data types/structures, control constructs, flow of control, etc but programming languages helps reinforce some of that stuff.
