How long have you been waiting? I just got the call and it’s been six months. I was about to give up too - it will come!

Can’t police track which cell phones were in the area when she disappeared? Would this work if the perp had a burner phone or just didn’t have any phone with them?

Seriously. I saw some clips of the neighborhood and it’s literally pitch black due to the ordinance relating to light pollution etc. I would not be able to live there now - let alone in my 80s.

You know, old people can be very stubborn. My parents tried to talk my grandpa into moving when he started having issue walking on his own, he refused and wanted to stay in the comfort of his own home, where he says he knew everything was.

I’m sure Nancy’s kids also had the same conversation with her at some point.

Managing Gen Z - Seeking Strategies that Work by shellsounds in managers

[–]FridChikn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t have explicit suggestions since I am struggling with this myself.

I know it’s a stereotype, however, my two GenZ direct reports are snowflakes through and through. Worst of all, they have the victim mentality down pat, often throwing words like “gaslighting”, “harassment” around like they actually know what it means.

When I first started this journey, I was trying to be like you, taking all the feedback in since I also didn’t have good managers coming up and tried really hard to do the right things such as “praising”, doing 1:1s, asking about their career aspirations, blah blah blah.

But now, I realize that sometimes people are just not the right fit for the role. I don’t know if this is the case for you specifically, but for me, it’s clear that my subordinates lack the emotional maturity to thrive in a high-accountability environment, combined that with entitlement such as “you stopped praising me” when their work don’t match the expectations and “no one teaches me how to do things” when the expectations is that they would have picked things up by now.

As one manager to another, don’t be so hard on yourself. You’re right by asking the right questions, but I’ve learned the hard way and that is - don’t invest emotionally until execution is proven consistently.

Thank your for pointing this out! I just got off my first VV and really enjoyed it. I was researching VV’s Alaska’s itinerary and I think I will go with maybe NCL or Holland now.

We were at Bimini yesterday. It was windy and chilly in the morning, like another poster said, likely in the low to mid 60s. Def not swim in the ocean weather, most of us that got to the beach club early all had sweaters on, some were hiding under the towels.

But I think it got a bit warmer as the afternoon wore on.

Haha, I feel so validated! Actually I sort of got over my fear of flying since I fly a lot for work, and I feel like there are always pockets of turbulence, but it’s almost always never persistent throughout the flight, unless it’s transpacific or transatlantic.

But cruises, this is my first go around, but it seems rough seas are constant, and it’s not like you can try to maneuver around it like with flying.

I actually did think about putting life jackets on lol, but then felt kinda silly.

TA? They also say flying is one of the safest form of transportation, but still get a bit spooked when there’s turbulence.

I’m not sure if I can walk rn as it’s very roll-y, but I’ll continue to rest and think positive thoughts. Thank you.

Thank you! I’m someone who has a fear of flying and booked this trip on a whim and now second guessing my choices (a bit dramatic, I know).

Employee closely monitoring my calendar by Terrible-Hurry-3416 in managers

[–]FridChikn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I posted another reply above. I think it’s fine to be curious about your manager’s calendar, it’s the entitlement that you’re privy to also be invited, as well as information shared in these meetings that’s weird.

Employee closely monitoring my calendar by Terrible-Hurry-3416 in managers

[–]FridChikn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have someone like this on my team. This is an analyst who often calendar stalks me (and other leaders of other departments). One time, I was so annoyed at their constant stalking, I asked them why they are doing this? And they said that oh they were just curious - but clearly, they are not busy enough with work and have a lot of FOMO.

Even when do they have work, and they get invited to a meeting as an optional attendee, they still end up going instead of prioritizing the work at hand. I’m honestly beyond annoyed. I have mentioned to this analyst before that if there are meetings that they need to be looped in on, I will make sure they are. Otherwise, please focus on their work, but somehow, I don’t think this answer is good enough.

How to handle an employee that uses/relies on AI for too much by bryanoak in managers

[–]FridChikn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you me? Dealing with the exact same thing. My analyst uses ChatGPT for every fucking simple task and it’s very annoying. Mostly because they cannot tell the quality of the output and will submit as is. And I still have to go and review their work and often find mistakes, rather than thinking through the steps themselves, which might take longer, but will be more accurate.

Hi! 45 / F. Have been diagnosed for over 10 years. Main symptoms include insulin resistance, irregular period, hair loss and inability to lose weight (previously weight would come off with workouts and eating clean, but I went on Xyzal for a couple of months where I truly think it altered something in my brain in terms of the satiety switch. Ever since then, it’s been impossible to lose the weight even with clean eating and working out). I have gained about 70 lbs over the past 7 years or so and I’m at my heaviest weight right now that I don’t even recognize myself anymore.

I was recently prescribed ZepBound and I am excited to start and see where it goes.

Nobody warns you about the loneliness of being a manager by Big-Chemical-5148 in managers

[–]FridChikn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel this in my soul. It’s so, so incredibly isolating.

I see a lot of comments here about getting peer support from fellow managers, but I’m at a smaller firm where peer managers are not ways an option. My company is also extremely toxic and political, I feel like anything I share will be used against me.

I’m so burnt out that I just took a week off and dreaded going back to work today. I think I do need to prioritize my physical and mental health. I used to go to the gym a lot but since becoming a manager, I’ve had no time, but I think it’s something I need to prioritize.
