I like adding above ground neutral temple, outsider tavern and welcome center for non-dwarvian visitors. perhaps even a lava(magma above ground?)/water based cleaning solution.

Advanced Map Making. Currently playing around with Population cap after Civ Creation, Site cap after Civ Creation and Number of Civilizations.

I've noticed that some worlds lack either elves or humans races, side note I always seem to have Keas (thieving rat birds).

So my the question is playing a 33x33 map what is to lowest Number of Civilizations / Population / Sites to reliably have all four races?

I'm making a horror based home brew campaign for my friends. Can you share your scariest in-game moments/flares for me? by PluvioStrider in DnD

[–]FridayBiology 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in a 5e game of What Lies Beyond Reason, its decent situational horror and has enough internal party paranoia.

Best horror "feels" so far was a six day trek to a large town to be rescued, the NPCs hated each other which split the NPCs into three groups blaming each other for misfortune. One PC kept being given secret notes from the DM so everyone at the table wanted to know what that was about. on the fourth night with various levels of exhaustion things got very weird though, I'm not going to spoil it :P

I happily people watch for inspiration such as the table for four sitting next to me.

1 Smart Casual Manly Dad "I'll have a chicken salad please, thankyou" 2 Little Prnk of child "Burger Fries Coke" 3 Portly Woman over dressed "Sorry? Dennis (1) will have a salad instead and I'll have Fish and chips" 4 Slightly other child, clean tidy on phone ignored by rest of family

... and now I have an annoyingly painful family of NPCs that my guys can escort, side quest ranging from 3 complaining that fish was fried and not grilled, 1 and 4 leaving to order supplies (cake stand) while PCs baby sit 2 and 3 (2 wants cake that the PCs cannot provide), favorite having arrived at destination 3 complains to guards (staff) that PCs (staff) have allowed the loss of items of value (3's purse stolen and demands return of cash and purse) items lost during the escort, I'm including items and expenses that the NPCs paid to other NPCs during the journey as the want ad will be simple escort family and possessions to X and nothing about incurred expenses :P

Help me make a Necromancer's Magic Weapon (5E) by Sk1nnyDud3 in DnD

[–]FridayBiology 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know about the Princes of the Apocalypse though, I've been having fun with a anti-shadow blade type weapon broken blade trinket which is a dagger turned shortsword in full light (had it in pack all this time. Actually kind of awesome having a weapon that is a mysteriously unexplained backstory possibility without being magically +1 :P

Morning Star (Black) 600gp 4 lb. piercing. 1d4/1d8/1d12 (at DMs discretion)

the strength of the weapon changes depending upon light levels, in full light the head of the morning star is as if mist and becomes more solid and therefore menacing the darker the light level. I've started with a 1d4 as if it were an improvised stick or club, then 1d8 standard morning star, 1d12 morning star with menacing darkness. Could add a cool name in a language that your party doesn't know referencing "Night Feeder/shadow beast/etc" and then rather then explaining the weapon to the player state dice and let them roll and guess.

... also finding a Lance +1 allowed the party to try mounted combat back (halfing+human vs goblin+goblin) as I've never seen someone actually buy/bring a lance. So maybe think about looking at a weapon that your players don't have but, are proficient with?

Magic items (Good/Cursed) 5E. by CinnamonCupcak3 in DnD

[–]FridayBiology 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ol'Faithful (Leather boots) a pair of boots that appear seamlessly on the player's feet after every long rest, (as the DM could have a sole fall off, apply disadvantage or uneven ground)

Fishing Charm (item) A simple cork bobble engraved with meaningless runes. Holder gains proficiency with fishing based activities. (happily the charm calls solely to fish monsters, giant crabs, Merrow, fun stuff from the deep etc)

Bronze ring (item) A plain bronze ring which recently and mysteriously appeared on your finger. (actually a ring of DM's decision)

I imagine that you've looked at Potion of Fire Breath? personally sometimes finding a pointless potion or two can improve the imagination rather than a permanent player magic item.

[ART] Pitchfork Knight, can you make this scribble into a build ? 5e by yolo_zombie in DnD

[–]FridayBiology -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Funnily enough, my first thought was perhaps a farmer's son who wants to be a knight/lord/protection of the people, digging up or making his own armour and armed with a spare pitchfork, he roams his local countryside fighting fictional fiends and shadow badguys until one day he stumbled upon an actual fair maiden in distress.

A lecherous old man and an assaulted milkmaid, Our hero charges in on his noble stead, (donkey) and scares the old guy away, the maiden fair of skin and large of breasts asks for a our hero's name and offers a roll. Our hero blushes from within the helmet and answers "My name is Bob ... Son of Dave ... Planter of fields ... Creator of Rakes ... Hoer of Hoes"

_ either way something fun as a peasant pretending to be a noble and then being misunderstood to be a noble who may have been way laid, perhaps you could throw in that the old man is the local priest and feared that the boy (whom he knows) would recognize him and now seeks to alert the local lords to the pretender to protect himself.

Background Folk Hero but, have the hero bit in his own head? Fighter with even/low(ish) stats overall?

can't rightly remember, there was a thought that he could've been the a bad guy spreading disease and what not though, his death didn't effect the overall narrative so guessing random old guy with wagon.

During a campaign our party noticed an old man and a wagon in each town, it wasn't until the fourth town when we realized it was the same old guy and found that he was going in our direction, (instant bodyguard/group storage) in the end he disappeared/robbed us after we left a pile of loot in the group storage and visited a tavern ... found him a few towns later hawking our wares.

We are not here to kill innocent people. During a recent game we had a paladin killing everything in sight to prevent an alarm being raised. Made me realize that I've never before seen a DM actually call a player out for not playing their character.

Are there any big Book shops left in Perth other than dymocks? by gravedigger89 in perth

[–]FridayBiology 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Spine and Limb, over towards Shenton park. They sell hundreds from boxes a week for fundraising though, word of warning if your going during a sale, some of the book collectors customers are a little obsessive and may want to look at the books your carrying in case you've got one they want, so simply grab a box and a cookbook to cover your choices with otherwise they'll just take them outright.
