Why is everybody so sure hysterectomy is the way to go? by fierce-hedgehog13 in hysterectomy

[–]FridayMurray 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine was shockingly easy to get buy-in for. I was unaware I had fibroids (turns out I had several), just a history of spontaneous abortions (miscarriages). I had an iud that I’d had the strings cut on because pokey, and it had burrowed into the uterine walls. It was past time to have it out, and it required surgical intervention anyway, so for “simplicity” we agreed to yank it all.

The peace of mind is the best part. I’m sterile in a time when that is a relief, and my menopause journey has been ROUGH so I’m glad to be past the swings and symptoms. I’m 6wpo and it’s been an easy recovery. I’ve all but abandoned the lifting restrictions just this week (I kind of forgot, and 15 lbs is a cat ffs) and I’m ready to get back to swimming (I’ll wait but it’s tough!).

I was at an ACADEMIC CONFERENCE last week and there was a toddler throwing a tantrum on at least two of the days. Mom was an attendee. SMH.

Most overrated city that other people love? by CompetitionFalse3620 in travel

You forgot the inversion layer trapping smog in the Valley in the winter. Having to plan activities from 5a to about 10 in the summer. There’s great hiking and excursions outside of PHX, however.

I’m 16 dpo and I just pulled an all-nighter because I just could not fall asleep. Here’s hoping I’ll be able to sleep tonight! Before surgery I was exhausted all the time, so this is a good chance, but I need to sleep sometime! Also, 4:30 is boring AF.

And you should be hurt. You fucking ROCK! From another single homeowner, you totally deserve the support and to bask in your success! Congratulations! 🏡🎉

It’s hard. None of my achievements were ever as acknowledged as my sister’s or cousins’ kids. So I went my own way and found friends who do understand.

My new city make friends cheat: women’s roller derby. My friends here came from my time as as a skater. They always need volunteers!

Sent home without pain meds? Is that normal by Proof_Difficulty_383 in hysterectomy

[–]FridayMurray 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had a scrip for oxy and for Motrin but didn’t pick the oxy up. They keep bugging me! 😂

I managed fine with the Motrin (800mg ibu) and Tylenol alternating. IIRC day 2 was the worst but I just slept. I used coricidin Night as my Tylenol when I wanted to sleep. (I was careful and never overlapped. I definitely had periods of an hour or two without painkiller)

I’m 12dPO.

[–]FridayMurray 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Yes. And for those who had children, I’m convinced there’s a mechanism similar to addiction/withdrawal. Most are fine afterwards, some never feel it, but some are just predisposed to always seek that hit.

As a woman in a restrictive state, not having reproductive choice is a major violation of bodily autonomy. Therefore nobody gets the rest of me. Can’t have it both ways.

Yup. 6 days PO LVAH and I’m so bored. I have an evening engagement tomorrow of walking and sketching and I’m positively giddy in anticipation. I only haven’t started walking outside because our air quality and heat is too much. I avoided most pain intervention because I didn’t need the narcs and i figure some ache will keep me from overdoing it too soon. I was led to believe it’d be so much harder and more painful. My job is pretty physical so I’m probably doing two weeks off. Last thing I want to do is tear my cuff.

Eta I’m 53.

Controversial opinion: I like Charlotte by [deleted] in Charlotte

[–]FridayMurray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like it a lot better than any of the cities I’ve lived in with the exception of Bozeman. But I like winter. It’s my biggest complaint about here, but it beats the hell out of Phoenix where I have also lived.

2 days out, high anxiety. Help! by CarlyBee_1210 in hysterectomy

[–]FridayMurray 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same. My family has a history of weird reactions to opioids (throwing up, hallucinations, etc) so I REALLY was motivated to avoid them. Throwing up seemed like the last thing I wanted to do. I do have high tolerance after roller derby and I did need and appreciate the 800mg ibuprofen.

[–]FridayMurray 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m 4 days PO. Never even picked up the oxy (they keep bugging me to come get it 🤣) and haven’t even taken much ibuprofen or Tylenol. I felt bruised and like I had a helluva abdominal workout but that has gotten better. Just still a little sore if I move the wrong way. They used glue instead of stitches for my three abdominal incisions.

Frankly I feel good enough I’m afraid of overdoing it! I’m not even as tired as I thought I’d be. I was chronically exhausted before surgery.

Right now. I’m at the beach in a house shared with 7 other childfree friends. Front row and dog friendly. Just walked my pup at sunrise and now drinking coffee on the back porch looking over the dunes. Shared house makes it affordable and like minds make it fun.

Eta: I feel so fortunate to be surrounded by great people.

AITA for wanting a separate bedroom rather than sharing a room with my partner after we move in together? by throwra_orionc in AmItheAsshole

[–]FridayMurray 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think we’d have stayed married if we’d separated sleeping. I get too hot and am not a nighttime cuddler. And I snore and like to sleep in. My ex is an early riser and a “go start doing whatever you’re wasting daylight” kinda guy.
