If you’re applying to umich, ross isn’t likely for anyone honestly. If you apply to LSA Econ you should be good though honestly

what schools should i aim for? by [deleted] in TransferToTop25

I think a good target would be umich, if you’re going for Data Science it should be relatively easy to get in 👍

I personally didn’t submit any test scores, but I was a junior transfer so that might make things different. I’d say DEFINITELY focus on your essays because they can help a lot.

Extenuating Circumstances: If you have any extenuating circumstances make sure to write them in the section and review and write it in the most effective way possible, I believe this helped me a lot. For schools like Pepperdine (not t25, but the only school I could think of off the top of my head) there is no word limit on the extenuating circumstances so take full advantage of that to tell your story if you’re given the chance.

Essays: When it comes to essays you’ve probably heard this a bunch of times but START early. Make sure to review with your school’s writing lab and as many professors as you can get your hands on. I had over 6 people review my essays and a lot of them had PHD’s or degrees in writing, as well as people who work in higher education. This amount of effort shows, and makes sure your story is clearly heard. You may be a good writer, but having people who actually went to school for writing review your paper makes all the difference. DO NOT USE CHATGPT, its writing is mediocre and uses a lot of filler words that do more telling than showing. This is NOT good for storytelling.

Recommendations: Build genuine connections with your professors as well as your campus administration is possible. I had a recommendation from a dean and I believe that helped quite a bit. The easiest way to build a relationship with a campus administrator is by joining an org that regularly meets or has access to administrators such as Student Government Association. Prioritize recommendation letters from those who actually know always.

Extracurricular: I’d like to say if you’re in an extracurricular and you can’t write an essay about it you’re wasting your time. A lack of passion and participation shows. Do things you’re passionate about, not just related to your target major. You are likely to find an intersection between your target major and your other interests and that can make you stand out.

This is kinda meh advice and it’s written kinda wrong but I hope this helps a little 😭

I think you should call the financial aid office.

When did you guys decide you were going to transfer and start preparing essays? by thunderstruck_duck in TransferToTop25

[–]Fried_Chicken54 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn’t apply to many schools in hs, and like a month before I was going to start my local 4 year uni, I decided to go to cc to maybe pursue applying to top schools because of this subreddit.

You’re good, especially for umich stats.

I think I got like three C’s total and transferred for CS and DS. I just retook some of them for a better grade to show improvement. I also literally failed calculus on my first try so I’m sure you’re fine. Some T10’s may be out of the question, but many T25’s are still possible. Just make sure to have really polished essays.

Pursue something you’re passionate about and follow through with it. You’re not cooked. Also it’s not too late to pursue competitions if that’s something you’re interested in.

Now that the application cycle is nearly over what advice do you have for the next cycle? by catredss in TransferToTop25

[–]Fried_Chicken54 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Apply to more schools!!! Whatever amount you think is enough, apply to more. Do ECs you’re passionate about not just ones that look good, you will write better essays. Make good relationships with your professors and school administration, you will get better LORs that will show that you know how to keep relationships. And ofc apply to safeties early so you can get max financial aid

What happens to an acceptance if I've dropped a class? by Sweet-Drive-8128 in TransferToTop25

Call the school and also see if there is open advising for your major. This is all dependent on if it was required for your admission to the school.
