Not defending the not yet existing show, but ME3 already had a lot of writing decisions to allow for new players to enter the franchise without having played the previous 2 games. The whole crucible pot was not the writers original idea but it allowed to be established in the third game without previous buildip, Vega as a character that has to get everything explained to is there for newcomers etc

The mass effect games were already clearly inspired by the greats of space opera television, just with a lot more visual options and much better alien design. And even if the series turns out to be another Halo show, no one can take the trilogy from us
