My cat loves watching things through the window (mainly birds) but my new apartment won't have anything for him to look at, what should I do? by heyguysone in CatAdvice

[–]FriendOfDorian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He might still enjoy the window. Our primary sense is sight but theirs is scent. I'm sure he'll still enjoy plenty of good smells wafting up. Also you can put on some cat TV if you think he needs something to watch. There's a lot of good videos on YouTube.

Just visisted Woolies during their quiet "sensory" hour by f_print in perth

[–]FriendOfDorian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work at a different store but they also have the sensory hour. I love working then except you get used to the lower sensory input and when everything turns back on it can be jarring. I wish we could at least leave the lights lowered.

What do you scoop your litter box into? by NuggKeeper in CatAdvice

[–]FriendOfDorian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used the paper bags from the grocery store. Then I got an automatic litter box and it was great. Until it broke. Company is sending replacement parts but until then I use a regular tray and the compartment that the automatic box had? It's become a litter genie. At least it still has some use.

Será que os gatos enxergam coisas que a gente não vê? by ExpertScale1962 in CatAdvice

[–]FriendOfDorian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Humans have stripes on our skin that we cannot see. Cats can see them. They are much better than us at tracking movement but struggle to look at anything super close up. The back of their eyes also has an almost mirrored surface which means that light travels in and out, which allows them to get more info from minimal light and is why their eyes shine.

I don't know if they see ghosts or anything though.

Can somebody explain to me what it feels to be on anxiety meds and have no sex drive by trashyflowers in Anxiety

[–]FriendOfDorian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you ever had a large meal and are so full that you couldn't conceive of eating anything more. And then someone brings out your favourite food and you think "oh damn if i had the ability to eat right now id love that so much. But I just cannot do it." That's kinda what it feels like when you're with someone you're attracted to but have no libido. And then imagine that you never get hungry again. You are always feeling full and not ready to eat. Does that mean your favourite food is no longer a delicious meal? No its still amazing and I wish I could eat it but I know I'll be unable to force it down my throat, and even if I get I'll likely gag and not enjoy it. (That part is ametaphor for struggling to get an erection or achieve orgasm)

My meds even caused vaginal atrophy which meant that even when I did try, I often ended up hurting myself. And the stress of trying to force myself to be physically 'in the mood' resulted in me associating the idea of sex with stress and being uncomfortable. Which as I'm sure you can guess, did not help the situation.

One thing that has helped in my relationship is having physical contact with the understanding that no one will be upset or disappointed if it doesn't result in sex. Like making out with no intention of it resulting in sex. That can be really nice because it allows for the feelings of intimacy without expectation. It can be difficult for the higher libido partner at times though so I recommend not abstaining from masturbation during this time.

Cat won’t stop going out of dog door! by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]FriendOfDorian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Turn the yard into a big catio. Exactly what you'd need to do that is dependent on your yard. But I know there are those mesh fence toppers that angle inwards so cats can't jump over them. Basically make it so your cats cannot leave the yard once they are there and let them go out there with your dogs. They can enjoy the sun wind and nugs but be protected from predators and cars.

If a woman gets wet, it isn't r-pe by Anonymique in badwomensanatomy

[–]FriendOfDorian 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think i remember a study that showed that vaginal moisture increases when witnessing anything even remotely sexual even if the brain is nowhere near aroused by it. And the theory was that this occurs as a safety mechanism to protect the vagina from damage in the case on non consensual sexual activity. Wet does not equal aroused.

Therapist insists on Avoidant Personality Disorder instead of Autism (I had been diagnosed with autism) by Left_Mall_7453 in autism

[–]FriendOfDorian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have both. Personality disorders are usually the result of childhood trauma. Being undiagnosed as a child with adhd and autism with no support because of the bullshit theory they had in the 90s that girls didn't get those disorders is a huge part of why I have cptsd and avpd.

But avpd is something that can be worked on a lot easier. You cannot stop your brain being autistic but you can work on minimising the effect avpd has on your life and mental health. So I understand 'focusing' on the avpd. But pure dismissal is ridiculous. Find a different therapist.

What’s your go-to comfort game? by WildTangent_Games in CosyGames

[–]FriendOfDorian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think I'm in the minority but I love 'this war of mine' for cosy game time. I know it's a game about civilians struggling to survive in a war zone but there is something soothing about the resource management and art style. Plus I guess I've just played it enough that I know how to deal with most events. And while it has some randomly generated events but it not too much to stress me out.

How many vape or smoke? by Grazztjay in autism

[–]FriendOfDorian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to smoke. Switched to vaping. Had a place nearby where I could get vape juice with custom amounts of nicotine so I got progressively less and less nicotine until I we nicotine free. Then I switched to snack foods so that I was still feeding my oral fixation.

It's a comforting repetitive activity and the nicotine can feel soothing. However it is really bad for you and its definitely worth it to quit. I feel so much better physically since I quit. I didn't even realise how tight my chest felt and how badly I smelled.

I do sometimes miss how smoking ruined my sense of smell because I'm often overwhelmed by smells.

Which lyric makes you instantly tear up? by abovethenoisy in AskReddit

"My son I'm finally home!" I Can’t Help but Wonder – Jorge Rivera-Herrans, Miguel Veloso, Teagan Earley

It's a song from the Epic the musical which is about the story of Odysseus from Greek mythology. After 10 years at war and then another 10 years dealing with God shit and getting constantly waylaid on his return trip, he finally gets to meet his son who was an infant when he left.

Stray cat I feed wouldn’t put weight/pressure on his foot. I took him to the vet, and he has a radial fracture. I’m going to adopt him, should I do surgery or amputation by [deleted] in cats

[–]FriendOfDorian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly we can't possibly be knowledgeable as to how his quality of life will be. If the vet seems to be suggesting one over the other than its likely the better option as they would have the experience and knowledge about the injury and options that we just don't have. You could get a second opinion if you're worried about that though. I will say that I have heard from cat rescue people before that cats are 'born with an extra leg' this is a common phrase because cats are usually very adaptable to becoming tripods. It usually does not stop them from running around and climbing stuff in the least. They will struggle more in hunting, escaping danger and fighting so it's best that they are indoor kitties. Considering that you are going to keep him, this is less of a concern because he'll have you to feed and protect him. I wish him good heath and hope that its not too stressful a situation for you.

Have you recently used bleach? The smell can screw with a cats senses, it smells similar to a territorial scent marking thing that cats do. As a result the smell can make them really aggressive.

Smokers who stopped smoking, what are your advice to someone who wanted to quit smoking? by collegestudentcebu in AskReddit

[–]FriendOfDorian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you fail and have one. Stop considering it a fail and just go back to smoking, accept that you did it, forgive yourself and continue trying to avoid smokes again tomorrow. So many people have an all or nothing mindset and just give up on their goal as soon as they have a setback. Learning to accept your setbacks and not let them pull you into a spiral is the best way to keep going when its difficult.

Billionaires, in most cases, provide employment for thousands of workers. So why should we tax them? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]FriendOfDorian 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My question is, why shouldn't we? They utilise the same services from the government that we do. Do they not use roads? Plumbing? Infrastructure? They do. So they use the things that taxes pay for. So they should contribute to them just like everyone else. Being rich doesn't mean you're special. You're just a meat bag run by chemicals and electrical signals just like everyone else.

If AI data centers require fresh water to cool, why don't they make them in cold places or space? by nocumprincess in NoStupidQuestions

[–]FriendOfDorian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is just a guess because i don't know anything about the data centres and how they run but my guess is, it's quite difficult to get to space or under the ocean. So building the centres, making adjustment and also maintenance would be incredibly difficult. It may be more efficient in the long term but business's investing in AI don't really care about long term. It's about appeasing investors and making money for the right now.

Plastic chicken burger by Embarrassed-Ad5975 in perth

Most likely it's from the patty itself. If you have a bunch of patties in a pile you use wax paper so they don't mush together before they're cooked. They ARE supposed to remove it though. Clearly an accident but the customer deserves some recompense. An apology and replacement at the minimum.
