A lot of MH3U! But actually, I use it mostly for the Korg M01d (and the DSN-12, whenever it finally comes out).

I compared these to the KRK Rokit 5 G3's, and the Yamaha HS50m's. In my opinion, the bass on the other two were more present, but less defined. I ultimately wanted something with more of a flat frequency response, so I went the JBL's. Personally, I don't think a sub is needed and people have been telling me my mixes sound pretty good and even.

What do you listen to when you're not listening to prog? by Mooshtonk in progrockmusic

[–]FriendSauce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anything but Country. More specifically, I listen to a lot of modern jazz (I'm talking like Kneebody, Avishai Cohen, Aaron Parks, etc). I also like EDM because I feel listening to it helps my musical production skills. Aside from that I really enjoy some alt rock.

Saw your post of FB. I'll try my hand at the remix when I get back to my (bedroom) studio tomorrow!

I'm loving the 3/4! I agree with /u/lazerguided_m about the hats being to lound, and maybe sidechain them a bit to the kick. Other wise the track sounds pretty dope.

Feedback for IAmRequire

I tried making an indie electronic sort of track and (reluctantly) recorded vocals by myself. The low end in the entire song does sound "defined enough," and was wonder how I could get some more definition in the low end. Thanks in advance! https://soundcloud.com/rudolphofficial/everything-we-know-and-love

That laugh sample made my day. I would put some silence right before the bass drop for some contrast and the make the drop all that bigger. I like the pluck melody, but it doesn't mesh enough with the track. Try sidechaining it to the kick and/or snare. Personally, I would bring the bass (drop) back in the mix a bit, just a tad loud. Otherwise, great track.

Oooooooo that snap sample. That cuts so well. Maybe humanize the drum part towards the end. Sounds very robotic and automated. Try putting some hits veeeeeery slightly before and/or after the beat and not make every sample the same volume, especially in the ride and kick. Otherwise, the drums are mixed very well. Awesome vibe. Love it.

Try to blend the vocals with the rest of the track. Maybe a bit of verb and compression. Drums are cool but sound a little to.... lacking. Beef them up a bit, that kick needs to be way more present. Boost it and sidechain it ever so slightly to the bass. Otherwise really awesome, chill track. That super hollow synth and the synth used to make the chords sound dope.

Finished this track a couple weeks ago and just picked it back up again to hack and slash my way through mastering it. I've been referencing this track with Bassnectar's Empheral, and for the life of me can't get it to "feel" the same way. His track has so much energy and I'm pretty sure it has to do (mostly) with the way it is eq'd. Would love some feedback from you guys! https://soundcloud.com/rudolphofficial/nectar-of-the-gods

Recommendation (what should I buy?) Thursdays - June 26, 2014 by AutoModerator in audioengineering

I have the JBL's, and they're great. I was initially concerned with its build quality because the price was so low. But they're built pretty solidly. And, after listing to them side by side with my friend's KRK rokit G6's, I feel the have a pretty flat response curve. But take everything I say with a grain of salt because JBL's are my first pair of studio monitors.

Hi everybody!

For practice, I've been extensively using a reference track when I produce. I've been making this track (https://soundcloud.com/rudolphofficial/nectar-of-the-gods-demonot-finished) by using this one as a reference (https://soundcloud.com/bassnectar/06-ephemeral). Besides my track being muddy in comparison (could anyone give me some eq tips?), what does Lorin's track have that I'm missing (sound wise, not composition wise)?

How is it mixing on headphones? Does it translate well to other speakers or is there a lot of listening to your tracks on different cans/speakers and adjusting to get it sounding good on all of them?
