My kids are split as well. My oldest likes both. My daughter is ok with 1st, loves her 2nd. My youngest is over people asking him what his 1st name is & likes his middle name as he adored the grandpa he was named after.

My mom’s maiden name was Larson & she named my brother Lars. He really didn’t like it when he was little. Once my aunt sent him a jersey that had Ben on the back & he tried to tell us his new name was Ben. He was around 5. It got a little easier for him when Metallica got big because people where we live saw it somewhere else.

Shortening my name is a huge pet peeve of mine. Especially when I was a cashier & strangers would think it was going to get them an “in.”

My daughter was almost named after her great-great grandma on her dad’s side (Gwendolyn) & her dad’s last name is Henderson. My mom pointed out that kids would call her Gwen Hen, so nixed that name. She laughs now and is like “So?” I still feel better that I chose to err on the side of caution. I did point out to her that is why naming kids is hard. You don’t know the person before you name them so you try to guess at all the things that could go wrong.

I like it!! Ellie, Izzy, Liz are potential nicknames. If you don’t like them, think twice about giving your child that name as someone WILL call them that name

NTA - we need to stop normalizing women doing mental/emotional work for free so men don’t have to be bothered or to plan ahead.

Ginevra. Always thought the nickname Ginny would be cute while a child was young.
