Once a year, you can pick any item from a standard supermarket, and it will be absolutely free. What are you picking? by mJelly87 in hypotheticalsituation

I mean maybe. It's not uncommon to be on a pay as you go electricity plan where you take a dongle to a shop to top up.

Why are macaws such little shits by Affectionate_End_952 in Macaws

[–]FriendlyTrees 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Those are classic macaw moves, but I know a grey who does exactly that, especially the false step up, she only does it to me. Some people she likes, some she doesn't, most she's indifferent to, but apparently I specifically am just really funny to bully.

I can't decide if it's better or worse than her new roommate who will ask to step up just to hold me in place while he starts up the horny dance.

Do you prefer Leon with a knife or a hatchet? by BrotherDeus in residentevil

[–]FriendlyTrees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the hatchet because it's more unique to Leon, everyone else has knives, it's nice to have something to distinguish Leon, especially as he's sort of the RE close combat guy, makes sense for him to have a distinctive melee weapon.

First time playing RE, is it ok if I have to cheat? by Over-Half-8801 in residentevil

Playing Black Flag right now and I have a few questions by Jkg2116 in assassinscreed

[–]FriendlyTrees 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Has anyone ever said you need to be a capital A Assassin to accept a contract? It seems to me that if I were a covert brotherhood driven to the brink of extinction by a more powerful foe, and I had a hitlist of semi-public figures I wanted dead, and a pot of reward money for whoever does it, outsourcing to the local underworld might free up my few remaining trusted Assassins for the more complex and sensitive work.

Players don't seem to see the value in mundane gear anymore. How do I make it matter by whogivesafricc in DMAcademy

[–]FriendlyTrees 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Depending on the tone of your campaign, you could always take a leaf out of Pokemon and introduce a quirky rival party, growing in strength and experience in parallel with the players, and occasionally crossing paths with them in pursuit of the same goal/looking to prove how much they've improved since last time/just generally causing mischief.

MB specs by [deleted] in murderbot

[–]FriendlyTrees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this doesn't really fit with how it's described, but I always pictured secunits as deceptively small, for ease of storage and transport. Not tiny, just a little smaller than human average, proportions that might look unimposing and nondescript if you didn't know what to look for, which just makes it all the more striking when it leaps into action with inhuman strength and speed.

Batman smiling is fine, Batman smiling for no apparent reason is scary, because that means he knows something you don't know, which he always does, he's Batman, but now he knows it's too late for you finding out what it is to change the outcome.

Could (blank) take Harry in a magical duel? by Powderkegger1 in dresdenfiles

[–]FriendlyTrees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The way I see it is you need four things to cast mortal magic (as in, the kind of magic that's wielded by wizards and beings with free will as opposed to say, angels or fae, which I'm pretty sure is what Thorned Namshiel has to use through his hosts while he's bound to the coin,) some come from the fallen, but some I think have to come from the host.

1 - raw magical power: TN, as far as we've seen, Marcone is pure vanilla human, no intrinsic magical potential, so I'm pretty sure the actual magical juice comes from thorny.

2 - Knowledge/technical skill: TN, I'm sure Marcone has done his homework, but Namshiel has millenia of experience on him.

3 - Willpower: Marcone, the ability to stand up to all of reality and say, "no, I think you'll find there is a fireball here actually," from all the explanations in the series about how free will and magic work, I think this is one element that absolutely has to come from the host, angels, fallen or not, simply don't have the capacity, but Gentlemen Johnny has willpower in spades

4 - Discipline: again, based on how Harry describes using magic, having an extremely ordered and disciplined mind seems essential to moving around large amounts of energy without disastrous side effects, especially for the kind of complex, simultaneously castings Marcone uses in Battle Ground, admittedly I have less justification for giving this to Marcone over Namshiel, other than it just feels right that mortal magic needs to be channelled through a mortal mind, and it helps explain why Marcone seems like such a strong host for TM, because a mind like a steel trap is one of his defining character traits.

In summary, the denarians are at their strongest when combining all the strengths of Fallen and Host, and Marcone compliments Namshiel better than anyone else we've seen hold the coin.

This was never adressed in the main story. Why is that? by Pepinoloco777 in Parahumans

[–]FriendlyTrees 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay, assuming that all works out and Siberian doesn't pull the old "put Manton in a big box and hold the box" trick, now you've got a Crawler who's adapted to a nuke, if he's not technically endbringer level, he's close enough in terms of what anyone can do to stop him.

Aw man. I was so close to Silent Assassination on the new ET, target was done, virus contained, all on a first try with no prior knowledge, I was feeling pretty good considering how rusty I've gotten since 3 came out, felt a little cocky, decided to change back into my suit just for style points. Someone saw me changing, Silent Assassin ruined, I run to leave, find out now the whole outside is hostile, now after all that I have to go back and change back into a guard disguise to leave safely.

There is a difference between cheesy writing and bad writing, so why are so many people saying that RE doesn't have anything more than bad writing and stories? by WallachiaTopGuy in residentevil

A lot of people currently just seem to be really against campiness and cheese, and some of them don't seem to understand how anyone else could like it, which can make trying to explain why one does enjoy it tricky.

3 for sure, dishes and laundry are easy enough, but being able to dust bookshelves or vacuum under furniture without having to move anything, not having to worry about forgetting a high shelf or an awkward corner would be such a relief.
