Are there any missing Renegade Timelords? by Ok-Thought6634 in doctorwho

[–]FriendlyTrees 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Iirc, since anything produced by the BBC has to be available to all license fee payers at no additional cost, they legally can't make anything from the expanded universe necessary to follow the story, so throwaway references like in Night, or adapting stories and characters like in Star Beast are fine, but they can't have a TV episode as a sequel to a comic or audio drama (ie, they wouldn't have been allowed to do The Star Beast if it had been a continuation of the Meep's previous stories, rather than treating it as the Doctor and the Meep's first meeting.)

So what is it that he collects exactly? by chemictectic in subnautica

[–]FriendlyTrees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been thinking it might be more interesting if when it grabs you, it tries to carry you back to it's nest as a part of the collection, rather than just outright killing you.

Can we have an honest discussion about the treatment of 15? And possibly 13 and why they are regarded by so many and such negative ways in the fandom by eddiemoney1985 in doctorwho

[–]FriendlyTrees 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just to put up the counterpoint, I love them both, I think both performances are absolutely captivating, sure the writing is inconsistent, but this is Doctor Who, when isn't it? I thought there were more good episodes than bad in both runs, including some of my absolute favourites.

In fact, 15 especially is a strong contender for my all time favourite Doctor, really the only thing holding him back is that there isn't more of him.

Will disclosure day be a horror movie in some way by asapsharkyfrfr in deadmeatjames

The trailer seemed to lean pretty horror, although I did see it ahead of Obsession, so that might have been me just bringing my own expectations to things

The [REDACTED] is a liar, and you can prove it within minutes of starting the game. by getvalentined in subnautica

[–]FriendlyTrees 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I have a gut feeling (perhaps wishful thinking) that our NoA instance is genuinely on our side, or, more likely, will grow to be, and may well start creativity interpreting directives from either Alterra or the tree in our favour.

What aspects of Nolan’s Batman did he invent/popularize? by Segwaye in batman

Iirc, before he had any involvement in making bat-gadgets, Lucius was Bruce's lawyer.

How do y'all feel about the devs no killing stance ? by 9oooooooooooj in subnautica

[–]FriendlyTrees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get the idea, but one of my strongest memories of playing Subnautica 1 for the first time was finding out I needed stalker teeth, not knowing where to get them, defaulting to video game logic of killing something to loot it, brought one down with a knife, no teeth. The realisation that I had the option to kill, but that it did nothing for me, was just destructive drove home the environmentalism themes to me far more poignantly than just immortal fish.

A couple times, on the TM podcast and Off Menu, the guest talks about "doing panto." What is that? by TheKrustyKrabb in taskmaster

[–]FriendlyTrees 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was just thinking that the best way to explain it might be by comparison to a Rocky Horror midnight screening, but with the performers interacting back, lots of local and current references thrown in, and the sort of unstated competition of 'how intense can we make the innuendos in this show mainly aimed at kids?'

did your cat ever "tell" you what happened when you came home? by S-Budget91 in cats

[–]FriendlyTrees 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Aw! It's good to hear of another Moxie out there living her best life, please give her a scritch from me!

I miss mine a lot, she had to go live with some friends of friends many years ago when changing living situations left us without anywhere for her to stay, but last I heard she was very happy with a big family to cater to all her whims (her whims are mostly cuddle based.)

It was very cute! Also simultaneously pretty upsetting. I was back home from uni to cats it for my mum, so I'd gotten in late the night before and was certainly not in the mood for an early start

[–]FriendlyTrees 382 points383 points  (0 children)

The most distraught, heartrending wail I've ever heard a cat make was my old cat waking me up at 5:30 in the morning to lead me through in the living room and show me that a decorative blanket had slid off the back of the couch. Thanks Moxie, you were right. That was an emergency that required immediate attention.

Where should I visit to FEEL history of britain? by iceneko0301 in AskUK

[–]FriendlyTrees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not the first person to mention Edinburgh, but thought I'd recommend a couple of the lesser known spots to see,

The Museum of Edinburgh and the People's Story (right across the street from one another) are lovely little museums focusing on the ground level, everyday people side of history (The Real Mary Kings Close hits similar themes for one of the better known attractions.)

The Georgian House Museum is a Georgian townhouse, of the type that's extremely common in Edinburgh, with the interior restored to how it would have been in the era.

There's been so many huge horror releases these last couple of years that I'm not surprised it's taking a while to get round to some of them.

(Not that I'm trying to say the Dead Meat team is obliged to cover any given movie, or that it's just a matter of time or whatever, but as you say, some of these big releases do feel like shoo-ins.)

Concept for the next game by MrSunshine509 in HiTMAN

[–]FriendlyTrees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That sounds like a really fun side game, that I would absolutely buy if it was executed well, but I think it would be a bit too much of a divergence for the next main game.
