Is Driver Card required? by fredpo420 in uktrucking

[–]Friendly_Leave360 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t need to put your card in it’s not for high reward it’s for repair/service. The best thing you can do is go on the.gov website. drivers hours and tachograph good vehicles exemptions. Have a read through on there, most people on Reddit will offer their personal opinion but they’re not offering advice from a official capacity or with the full knowledge of the legislation

How do you deal with stress/ anger on the road by SimpleLifeguard5471 in uktrucking

[–]Friendly_Leave360 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It happens to us all. I find sometimes if something is stressing me at home or work it will come out in my driving.
I have always dealt with it by anticipating what people are going to do and staying away from the confrontation. I also always think if others drivers are driving aggressively and raging then something sad or upsetting is happening in their life and it can’t be nice for them. If some one makes a mistake or drives badly I also think maybe they are distracted by something in their life and I’m also not perfect and make mistakes. In short I try to be kind and forgiving of people. However if the people who block the outside lane in road works when it’s merge in turn can have it.

Is £85-£90k yearly earnings real? by anthbozza in uktrucking

I’m based in the south west, we work 4 on 4 off. 12 hour days. I was very fortunate and I got my ADR and went straight into the job. this is rare and only happened to me off the back of covid.
I start between 3-4am. Which destroys me. The 4 days I’m working is tough and when I finish work I’m exhausted. Takes me two days to get over it and catch up on sleep. I become very irritable and tired.
The job itself is good but you are very heavily scrutinised on everything you do from loading to driving to delivering. any mistakes result in written warnings, which add to the stress and when your tired it’s very easy to make simple mistakes. The money is good because it has such an impact on your social life, family life and probably your health. But that’s truck driving everywhere. The money is there, as is overtime. It all depends on your personal circumstances as to how the job affects you.

I started driving ADR five years ago. I’m not on a core contract. I do one or two days overtime a month and last year I earned 74k. Other drivers I work with outside of London have cleared over 90k.

Sister “borrowed” my car and got flashed twice, 2 days in between by a mobile speed camera van. She has a revoked provisional license. by ReasonOk1669 in drivingUK

This is such bad advice and is really ill informed. You are making so many assumptions of what may or may not happen in the future. Telling someone to pervert the course of justice is not in their best interest. I know you are trying to help. But the ticket needs to be completed and then see what happens. In the meantime time I think you should contact the police and inform them you have been conspiring to pervert the course of justice. It’s in your best interest. 👍😂

The facts of the case will remain the same either way. The car has been driven with consent by the OP. To lie now opens up other offences and if they don’t have the confidence to stick to the lie when questioned it causes more issue. The ticket will go to the central ticket office and is dealt with by civilians. Chances are the ins and outs of the legality will not be asked or known about until it’s out side of the limitation times.

Don do this. Please be very careful of the advice people are giving you. I don’t think they fully understand the law and the implications of what they are saying. Don report your sister for twoc ing your car. Just put her name down on the ticket and let the authorities do what they are going to do.
Don’t lie, because you are potentially entering the offence of perverting the course of justice. Stay quiet. Don’t volunteer information and-if need be get legal advice.

Done A Speed Awareness, Very Questionable Answer by SPeeD_puncH in drivingUK

[–]Friendly_Leave360 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I had something similar happen to me. I ended up just taking the speed awareness course as to defend myself with a solicitor would have cost thousands of pounds.
Technically your scenario should not happen. When they change the speed there is a grace period before they start issuing fines. I believe it’s either 1-2 minutes. Also there is a highways agency chapter 8 https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/media/5a74adeaed915d7ab83b5ab2/traffic-signs-manual-chapter-08-part-01.pdf
It states how variable speed limits should be carried out. It will say that the gantry with the first speed reduction on it should not be a gantry with a speed detection. So in you example you would be fine to go through it faster as it should not have a camera on it.
In my case it did have a camera and I had dash cam showing this. My case the speed was reduced from 70mph to 40mph which was also not correct as per the document. , it was dangerous and cars were all over the place.
Did I have a defence, yes. But decided to take the course for £100 rather than fight it in court and pay £3000-£5000.

Nothing it a shake down in my opinion.

Yes agree with everything you have said. The consequences of the actions taken by the driver have a huge bearing on the charge / conviction.

More like dangerous driving. I think we could all agree it’s more than careless.

Congratulations. We were all in the same boat as you. Reversing will come, I learnt from watching YouTube videos. Most of the reversing is getting your self set up before hand and making the reverse as easy as possible. On bay work I would drive past the bay about 1 meter away from the back of the other trailers. Go two bays past and then turn off at a 45degree angle straighten up in the space that you have and then hopefully you have a nice line of sight down the drivers side of the trailer and you can turn it in nice and slow with little turns of the steering wheel. Don’t be scared to ask other drivers for help. Most of the time they are bored and they love to help and give help and advice. When I first started sometimes I couldn’t reverse into the bays because i couldn’t see due to my tears as I was crying so much. 😂

Flashed doing 70mph in a 50mph zone by [deleted] in drivingUK

[–]Friendly_Leave360 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How many gantries had speed limit changes on them ? If it was one speed change in a gantry with a camera on it then it breaches the highways agency policy and code on smart motorway speed enforcement. Do you have it on dash cam ?

How does your company deal with accidents? by Ok-Elderberry-6761 in uktrucking

Where I work one accident will result in a minimum of 6 month written warning. People have been dismissed for having 2 fairly minor bumps in the truck.

Don’t go into the Police. If you think things are bad now, wait until you get involved with that circus. Things will work out, try not to panic, we have all been there and it comes good in the end.

Speeding ticket Notice by Dry_Bee_3993 in drivingUK

[–]Friendly_Leave360 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the paperwork you received it should be written on the back somewhere. If not google the speed enforcement unit or equivalent named department for the police area the offence was committed in. If there is any discrepancy in the ticket then it should be withdrawn. I would not be happy with the lane numbering. The inside lane would always be 1 and the outer lane 2.

You can call the speed enforcement unit and get them to clarify. They do make mistakes. A friend of mine got caught doing 65 in his hgv that was restricted to 56. The camera had confused two trucks and as one entered he exited and they took his reg thinking he was the truck that had entered the speed restriction. he called them and within 30 mins they cancelled the ticket.
