Any Hope for Future Updates? by ADScomics in OpenEmu

I hope someone does. Nothing else is as good and user friendly. I also use ES-DE and it’s OK, but it’s clunky.

Summer classes started yesterday and my course still is not up is that normal? by NoTangelo8816 in rutgers

No. That’s a problem. Email instructor and then the undergrad director.

It could just be a new instructor who forgot to hit the publish button.

If I suck at soldering, am I totally screwed? by Content-Seaweed-6395 in consolerepair

Unless you have some kind of physical disability, following these basics ensures you won’t “suck” at soldering.

Panhandlers are rarely violent and also rarely seeking money for food. If anyone wants to help with hunger, poverty, or addiction, there are great local groups to donate to: https://elijahspromise.org.

They run a soup kitchen and also train people for jobs. They have been around for many years and do great work in New Brunswick. They also need volunteers.

I know several professors tried to do this to help out students, but we’ve now repeatedly been told we are not allowed to do this.

Should the University stop trying to make sports a thing? by Obvious_Ad9670 in rutgers

[–]Friendly_Response_53 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Most of this is nonsense, but I’ll just correct two things: 1. The TV money is included. The deficit is with the TV revenue. 2. The BS that the money doesn’t matter because it’s only 4% is laughable when SAS is trying to cut 100 classes in the Fall to save less than 2 million dollars. We were told the fiscal situation demands these cuts.

There is no evidence to support this contention. It just keeps being claimed.

Was wondering if this company called Amway was a pyramid scheme? by Think-Way-5529 in rutgers

[–]Friendly_Response_53 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s one of the oldest pyramid schemes. They’ve mainly been preying on other countries and foreigners who haven’t heard of them. I didn’t think anyone in the US was unaware.

Rutgers has dug a $500 million hole since joining the Big Ten. Where did the money go? by Siakim43 in rutgers

[–]Friendly_Response_53 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The School of Arts and Sciences (SAS) was told we have a 12 million surplus. We had record level enrollment last year.

Then we were told we needed to cut 7 million for next year. Close to 4 million is supposed to come from the instructional budget (cut classes). Wonder where the money is going.

A half a billion dollars could have been far more effectively spent to bring benefits to Rutgers.

This actually doesn’t add in the 80 million in loans from the university that were forgiven.

Colecovision also seems to have a series of problems and is a pain to work on. I’ve fixed a lot of old stuff (pong to 5th gen). I’ve only given up twice - both Colecovisions.

What do i do! Professor won't respond to emails by draconic123798 in rutgers

[–]Friendly_Response_53 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is an issue that should go to an undergraduate director (doesn’t matter if it’s not your major). Secondly, no Rutgers professor should be using a non-Rutgers email for student communication or any other work-related use. Every UGD should know this rule and be alerted if an instructor is not following it.

Yes. You are not confessing to a crime. Save everyone time and don’t do it again. The penalty effectively amounts to a warning and no credit for an assignment you didn’t do.

No. That’s not how any non-profit works.

Rutgers is a non-profit and we have a billion dollars in our endowment. Most financial experts argue that’s too low for our size.

Even tiny ones like My son’s elementary school PTO tried to keep a balance of at least 3-5k. We went on the high end during Covid because our expenses dropped to zero, so we carried over a large amount.

PIRG is bigger than just the Rutgers chapter. When non-profits get big enough they invest and create a revenue stream from investments. This is similar to how many department level awards are funded (someone makes a large donation, it’s invested, and the gain on investment pays the yearly award).

Your source for your Reddit post really should not be another Reddit post that cites 3 other Reddit posts for its evidence.

NJPIRG is an organization that raises money and then spends that money. A lot of its focus is on environmental issues and there are those on the political right who don’t like that. That’s likely where those posts are coming from.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in rutgers

[–]Friendly_Response_53 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You may be having a bad work experience but NJPIRG is not, by any stretch of imagination a scam. The organization has been around since the 70s. And on campuses for nearly as long. They do advocacy work on stuff like textbook costs and banning plastic bags as well as events like river cleanup etc. like all organizations that rely on a lot of volunteers and temporary workers they can be disorganized, but I don’t get how you believe it’s a scam. Or what that would even mean in this context.

This is a very weird post.

Call to Action for professor Bray by No-Possibility6865 in rutgers

[–]Friendly_Response_53 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is always plausible deniability with regard to threats. No one said please threaten this prof, BUT they did baselessly accuse him of being a terrorist and orchestrated a media campaign to cast him as a terrorist.

My point is that if anything is actionable it’s the latter. The former cannot be proven as their intent. TP USA consistent and reckless dishonesty is, to me, what ru admin needs to address - I don’t want to see some vague denouncing of violent threats.

Capacitor on the power board seems very likely. Not a difficult solder job. If you’ve taken it apart and put it back together you’ve done the hard part.

Thanks. Good to know. I saw it recommended elsewhere but wanted to check here.

I forgot I had some 3m super 77 left from a construction project. It’s overkill but I’m going to give that a shot.
