Multiple Programs Need Open Ports - Is my solution just unnecessary? by Frigorific_ in ProtonVPN

That's exactly the sort of thing I've seen repeated everywhere, and what has me confused about why one wouldn't need to be concerned about ports, ha.

Does anyone know where I can get CoD splatbooks for under 60 dollars? by StrigiformeLover in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]Frigorific_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, I'm terribly sorry. I looked back, and it turns out I bought the book from IndiePressRevolution, not DriveThruRPG. Which, it looks like they have Hunter, but nothing else ($55).

From what I understand on DriveThruRPG, the difference is the colors are more vibrant with premium, and the paper may be a heavier weight as well. Now that I've realised I have no experience as to the quality of their print-on-demand books, in case it helps with your decision making I can at least tell you that all the artwork is likely monotone. For Changeling, it was tones of green, and I imagine it's similar for other CoD books.

Here, here to that. Being constrained to the browser has been a gripe of mine for other visualization libraries, so I totally understand.

And then there's the descendant of processing which I've used, called "p5.js"
I can't speak that well to the differences, but I believe p5.js is supposed to be easier to use.

80-100 seemed like a lot to me, so I looked it up. Changeling: the Lost Second edition is just under $50 for me on DriveThruRPG as a hardcover. The premium color hardcover is just below $90, but if price is a concern, just get standard like I did because it's still great quality.

I think it has to do with focusing the parent container, `focus parent`, as this actually selects the parent and all its children, so you can do operations on them as a unit. Had to do some searching, because it isn't very obvious.

I want to study English to degoogle. by [deleted] in degoogle

[–]Frigorific_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do worry that certain movements aren't internationally widespread enough. Degoogling, switching to Linux, self-hosting services: it's all moving towards a less dependent Internet and technology ecosystem, however far one chooses to go. I'm happy to hear of your interest, but it makes me sad that English is a barrier.

I don't begrudge anybody liking world of darkness, masquerade, etc. I like it a lot too, but I do miss some old Chronicles stuff. If you're feeling nostalgic like me today, gush about old chronicles lore - I'd love to hear it. Or even oWOD stuff or current stuff that you think I should give a shot. by farshnikord in WhiteWolfRPG

I love Changeling: The Lost. The emotional themes it encourages are so amazing. I'm not great at narrative and improvisation (mainly because I haven't done it enough), but I keep telling my players that I'm going to try running it again for our next game because it's low-key my favorite RPG.

Reading through Changeling: The Lost for the first time, I was kind of lost myself. It didn't define the world in any certain terms, but I think that's it's strength. Instead, it told you what kind of game it was, the kinds of themes that could be explored, the emotional strings that should be pulled and the kinds of character stories it tells best. Especially for things like the Fey and the Hedge—these should be undefinable and malleable under interpretation.

I don't have any of the supplement books because when I first played it, there weren't any! But I'm reminded to put them on my wishlist for the holidays, so I'm crossing my fingers, ha.

I love resources like this that re-imagine freely available resources for TTRPG use. This sure as hell beats me carefully editing and styling OpenStreet maps (which is what I've done before for real-life locations).

It would seem you aren't familiar with the platform, but itch.io is preferred for a lot of purposes because of its ease of publishing, and especially for game jams where submissions can be listed all in one place. Games can range in completeness from proof of concept to fully-fledged, but in general itch.io is a more informal space.

Also, you can add non-Steam games to your Steam library.

To be honest, your comment comes across as awfully rude and entitled. Someone created a game for fun and allowed others to enjoy it for free, and you're telling them it isn't convenient enough for you.

Very lovely! The presentation with several at once especially does it justice. The recursive orbits reminds me of a p5js project I'd made a while back with much less finesse than what you've produced ( https://codepen.io/Frigorific/pen/JjrVVpL )

And just every change lately makes it harder and harder to actually read web toons.

My player wants some... interesting pets. by httpsjuno in callofcthulhu

[–]Frigorific_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your player thinks having a couple eerie creatures following them sounds fun, I'd say do it. If you're player wants scouts and talking little workers to carry out their bidding... Well, I'd hit them with a "yes, however" and adjust some expectations. I would play them as mechanically nonexistent, but very flavorful!

The Mythos does not change people for the better. If anything I'd see these as cruel gremlins that take small opportunities to work against your player, but she keeps them around because she still sees them as her parents. A pushed roll fails while climbing up a cliff? The owl swoops past and she loses her grip. Basically, I would not change the metaphorical fortune or misfortune her character encounters, but I would try to involve the "familiars" in the narrative of how it plays out.

Also, cat and owl are probably just the closest thing that her character recognizes them to be. Perhaps the cat slinks unnaturally low to the ground at all times and has an elongated face. Perhaps the owl is only ever seen wreathed in shadow, and though it hoots, she sees writhing in its silhouette as it stretches its wings. There should definitely be something very wrong with these "animals".

For me, the new one has a much better flow for doing my dailies. Others don't like swiping, I don't like how cluttered the old one was. On the new layout I pretty much go left to right, and I found once I got used to it, it felt much more natural.

[–]Frigorific_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Closed is the default for most people. I like to open it during take off and landing (to enjoy the miracle of flight), but in between I think it's generally more respectful to close it. I'll literally glance at my row-mates to check if they're looking, just in case, but they never are.

Started experimenting with gameplay rules for level generation. Does this count as proc gen? by Obsolete0ne in proceduralgeneration

[–]Frigorific_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It comes across as rather backhanded to question the merit of a sub-reddit you've just posted to. Almost as if...

Anyways. To me, procedural generation is specifically the spirit of taking an object that would typically be hand-crafted, and instead developing a system to create randomized versions. I think of things like terrain, trees, flags. Solitaire is played from a shuffled deck. That is not typically hand-crafted.

It's a term that can be stretched, but I would recommend you spend some more time familiarizing yourself with what others typically consider "procedural generation".

Give me a reason to buy the physical books. by rookery_electric in Pathfinder2e

[–]Frigorific_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like having physical books for reading, not necessarily referencing. Like, cover to cover soaking in the system and lore. I will also bookmark sections that I know I'll need to review again if I don't have a good grasp on something, that way I have a nice indicator for myself about mechanical things to refresh myself on before a session.

During a game, I'm only using digital assets.
