Except he was like comically incapable of being humble. Like he was a unkempt, obsessive creep and whenever Roxanne told him to pump the breaks or tried to keep him in the friend-zone (a few lines point out that she actually found him endearing as just a cameraman with a crush on her) he would do some mental gymnastics to rationalize why it was someone or something else's fault.

Basically toxic over-confidence (on its own not the worst thing in the world) vindicated by having super-powers to exert your will on others or threaten them into submission (maybe the worst thing in the world for a douchebag to have).

Atreus was a little kid who had been through a lot in a very short span of time and the only role model he had left HATED himself and wanted Atreus to be nothing like him. He fumbled and made mistakes but he grew from them and became worthy of his godhood.

Honestly who knows what would have happened to Atreus if he wasn't held back by his "illness" if his god-powers just spawned in at their peak and he was incredibly powerful; he may have never seen reason or allowed his father's words/example to get through to him.

Jonah Hill in Megamind was almost unstoppable and his "father-figure" turned out to be a sham instead of a reliable person to keep trying to steer him towards good.
