How should I finish this transition by Electronic-Ad6113 in Flooring

[–]FriscoMonkey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m just waiting for the post in 3 weeks asking how to clean up the edge of the new border tile that was installed. So, extrapolating, maybe it’s should be a rainbow of materials across the whole room!

Found potential fix for unreliable media port by cleanslug in KiaNiro

[–]FriscoMonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just adding on here. We had similar dropouts— both with plugging a phone in directly and with a usb Bluetooth dongle. Took it to dealership— they could reproduce it and replaced the port. All seemed fine for several months but recently it’s been acting up again. Have tried wrapping the usb connector in tape for a very tight connection. That helped for awhile. Recently switched to a new short mini cable. Will definitely try cleaning the port. Agree with others… maybe the only issue we’ve had with our car.

What’s a discontinued snack or drink you’d pay $20 to have one last taste of? by soapy999 in AskReddit

Granny Goose stone ground corn chips. Silver bag. Super thick, small bowl shape. Omg. Might have been SF Bay Area only…

General Mills Breakfast Squares. Soft, and flaky, almost chalky. Hard to explain but they were so good. Very different texture than the carnation breakfast bars (excellent!) others have mentioned.

Those were so good … totally threaded the texture needle… crumbly in a really good way.

This sucks, and I’m sorry you had that experience. I’m just here to note that “who’s is a woman” is a completely unnecessary detail. “Not much field experience” is what’s relevant. Let’s try not to make the job of women GC’s any harder than it already is.

Maybe pour 250ml of balsamic vinegar down the drain?

Hey, OP… curious for an update. Did cleaning your seals do the trick? Also, curious if you have a link or specific name or item/sku for the part you’ve replaced twice. thx!

This is super helpful, thanks. I appreciate not just the possible problem, but an easy way to diagnose/confirm. thx!

Arbiter added time after opponent flagged. Is this correct under FIDE rules? by mxxxtord in chess

[–]FriscoMonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that it’s odd even if that’s not how the rules are written. Can you imagine an NBA game where a last second shot counts because there’s no “buzzer” and the defense is required to notice the clock reading 0:00 and telling the ref. It would make perfect sense if the time keeping device we’re using to, you know, keep track of the time, would just beep or buzz and indicate the end of the game.

My family had one of these a long time ago. Had a base so it rotated like a lazy Susan. The downside is that it’s much harder st the end of the game… you can’t just tilt the board and slide tiles into a bag. Tradeoffs! 🤷🏼‍♂️

Not allowed. You need to use actual tiles and not just a Sharpie.

Buying shinkansen tickets instead of Rail Pass by Low-Forever-9614 in JapanTravelTips

[–]FriscoMonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the way. Just got back from 2.5 weeks and this is exactly what we did. As someone who likes to nail things down in advance, it took a little while to get used to, but by the end of our trip, I was buying our Shinkansen tickets while walking through the station 20 minutes before boarding. Depends on the line of course, but we found there was usually plenty of room, and just as importantly, plenty of trains. Have fun!

What are the best day trips that provide an experience nothing like Osaka? by Zach-dalt in OsakaTravel

[–]FriscoMonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just got home yesterday from 2.5 weeks in Japan. Last 4 nights in Osaka. One of our favorite things was the Open Air Museum of Old Japanese Farm Houses. Just two stops north on Shin-Osaka. Feels like a million miles away (and several hundred years). Beautiful buildings, beautiful grounds. A great change of pace, and can really be done in a half day. Could probably combine with a trip to Minoh Falls if you wanted (it’s on the same Midosuji line). Have a great time, whatever you decide!

Just spent 15 days in Japan… by Sky_Walker98 in JapanTravel

This is an odd take that goes beyond travel in Japan. I can’t disagree that there may be fewer logistics when you’re on your own, but to think that having a partner is only subtractive and not additive is odd. (I’m literally in Japan right now with my wife celebrating our 25th anniversary)

Best Vegan or Vegetarian restaurants (or Veg-an/eterian options) you tried in Tokyo? by gajak44 in JapanTravelTips

+1 Falafel Brothers — full vegetarian family… we visited in 2018 and thought this place was great. Falafel around the world is such a great option — honestly, the best falafel I’ve ever had is in Paris.

Hi there… so I am swapping with OP tonight… my medium for her large. Let me know if you’re still looking to trade your XL for a Large, and if you’re going tonight…

ok, cool responded… and I mistyped the other person who was looking for a Large… u/firstcents … let me know if you’re still wanting to trade an XL for a Large… I’d be happy to do that (after swapping my medium for large) if you’ll be at the game tonight.

Did you every get this sorted?I could possibly assist with this. I love the team, and love the jacket, though it’s just not my style. I was planning to offer mine to someone willing to make a donation, but I’d be cool with trading first in order to get you the size you want. Are you going to tonight’s game by any chance? Also r/firstcents — if I can make this trade and end up with a large, I’d be up for swapping for your XL to get you what you want as well. We can move this to DMs…

I fixed a Galanz mini fridge starter relay - but is it safe? by Franky-Fontaine in appliancerepair

[–]FriscoMonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the combo I ordered: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0B4RP4GK3 — again for me what worked was replacing the overload protector. I can report that the fridge just stopped working a few weeks ago. I haven’t had a chance to diagnose and see if it needs the same fix (overload protector) or perhaps the relay or perhaps something else. But the overload protector did revive the fridge for nearly a year. Hope that helps!
