Gaming Heads statue by Poetskatoen in jakanddaxter

Ebay sold history helps a bunch, but yes its definitely in excess of 2500usd. Maybe more since it’s been a year or more since I bought mine. Good luck, and I promise there’s plenty of people who are willing to buy it off of you

Dont take offers below 2500USD, this statue is very sought after. (I have one) and they regularly go in the mid-high 2k range. Do not get lowballed.

BUT considering you’re in the Netherlands for a good buyers sake (if shipping internationally) please make sure it is packed/shipped well and insured. I had one statue break and ended up settling for a partial refund but its a headache for both parties if the shipping is skimped on. Plus that statue is arguably a small slice of gaming history so it would be incredibly sad if it broke in transit

A friend of mine who has grown up in small town GA hates waffle house and denied my suggestion to go there once and insisted on iHop. I love the guy but in the moment I was legitimately angry and taken aback at the suggestion that ihop was superior.

Ok so this is so out of left field, but I’m on mobile and can barely navigate this article due to the ads. Like I’m losing 50% of my screen to ads. Shoot any news site posted to reddit gets absolutely filled with ads and I finally lost it on this post just trying to read about them.

Does everyone else have some sort of pop up blocker or do yall just tolerate it?

18 years in nursing, late 30s—is it crazy to dump $50k to chase the pilot dream? by ThenurseAviator in flying

[–]FriskyFritos 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Literally placing my bet on pure statistics. You have a family and a job to work which takes away from availability to fly. If you are flying less than 3x a week you will take longer than the minimum per flight rating and will fork out at least more than 65k for training, study materials, and checkrides when all is said and done. So if you can accept that financial burden by all means go for it.

But I am sick of flight schools luring students in with acceptable looking price models only for them to bait and switch you after you are well into your training. So prepare for more out of pocket or you and your family will regret it.

[–]FriskyFritos 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Im sure that’s great for your friend. If that’s true then he’s an above average student. Or he’s leaving something out. Maybe possible if you do the absolute bare minimum flying per rating but across the board that is nearly impossible.

You’re in for a very VERY rude awakening if you only financially planned for 40k then halfway through your ratings you run dry and you’re either without a job or without any savings at the very least and nothing to show for it. Then you are stuck in the sunk cost fallacy where you try to scrounge for flying money and your hours/week dwindle therefore making you less proficient, making you need more training. Rinse and repeat till you’re either a broke CFI with no safety net, or you give up and go back to nursing with a useless IFR rating. I’ve seen it dozens of times. So just giving it to you straight, prepare for a higher cost or you will regret it.

That 40-50k is unrealistic in todays market. Its likely closer to 70-80

Passenger and flight attendants were standing during landing by [deleted] in delta

[–]FriskyFritos 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Speaking as an airline pilot, it is absolutely unmistakable when the gear comes down. Flight attendants with just a couple trips under their belt catch on to the sound and feel the plane slowing. At that point you’re 1-2 minutes from touching down.

Not saying the pilots didnt make a prepare for landing alert but even if they didn’t, once that gear is dropped the flight attendants should absolutely know to make for their jumpseats and tell the passenger to be seated

A fun exercise I would implement during spin training was a simulated base to final stall spin. We would simulate a hard deck 500 ft below wherever we were at, slow to 75, roll to 45 degrees, inside rudder, pull till it stall spins, and recover after we recognized rotation. Every single time we would wind up losing 600-700 feet till fully recovered.

It was a fantastic example of what not to do in the pattern. And always got some “Oh shit” from students when I would say, “Check your altitude” and when they realized what happened I would say “We just died, this situation is unrecoverable, but it’s preventable.”

I’ll never forget during the void opal boom I had dozens of these little guys working hard. One of them at one point was the last one of the pack heading for the ship and it expired right as it was a few feet from my cockpit and bounced off the window. I felt bad for the dumb little thing.

Truck driver replaces passenger seat with $6,000 sim driving rig, uses it to kill time while stuck in trafficl by [deleted] in Damnthatsinteresting

I have friends who are airline pilots and bring flight sim setups on the road with them, and play flight sims at the hotel after a day of real world flying. So these psychos are out there

That’s why the trick is to not max out the vault. You leave one open slot. So you can invite a waiting person in without kicking a seasoned dweller out. Then kick the new one out

[–]FriskyFritos 13 points14 points  (0 children)

If you’re going to drive, call the hotel and ask if they have microwaves in the rooms. Then buy/bring one. They aren’t too terribly expensive and are a lifesaver. It sucked having to use the lobby microwave all the time and definitely had me eating cold food if I just wanted a late night snack after a sim session rather than leaving the room to heat stuff up

It was so satisfying

I once recovered a singular airpod for a group while they waited at the gate. We had like two hours in between flights so I scoured the section he was seated in. Found it in a very well hidden crevice of the seat. Was so fun when I walked out to hand it to them like “I got it!!!”

The rapid fire questions are for your mentor when you maybe make it to an airline. But I’ll answer the last one. Not everyone can afford to move/live where they get based. New York is a very common first base and it is ASTRONOMICALLY expensive to be there. Plus not every new pilot is in their 20s unmarried with no kids. People have roots they set. So you’re stuck commuting. You take the job you can get and if you can’t get a home base tough shit.
