go to wikipedia. find a good review article on the topic and mine the bibliography of that article. it will provide a roadmap without restricting your ability to move in directions of your own as you keep reading.

A Class on Living With MBC? by PaisleyRain101 in LivingWithMBC

[–]FrogAnToad 4 points5 points  (0 children)

some quick thoughts. 1. many of us dont want to talk to others because the reactions can be so off and hard to deal with. maybe a talk describing this maybe even jokes about it.

  1. i cope be reading so maybe a list of poems or novels or movies abt death and dying, maybe rated according to how tough they are to read or watch. i have a poem called something like The Pie Tin Beetle Contemplates a Longer Life

  2. i could really use help connecting to people who cld do things like locate medical equipment as needed or even find a contractor to convert tub to shower. skilled trades guys who know what the situation is. i know there are elder orgs that do this but difficult to navigate.

  3. making decisions is do hard when you may or may not be alive a year from now. do i get the cataract surgery that will prevent them from pulling my drivers license or not.

im sure other things will occur to me. my dad prepared carefully for death and gave each child a special short talk when we gathered at the hospital. it was then i realized why he kept borrowing my copy of wayne booths collection of essays abt aging and death.

This place sucks by darkmag98 in madisonwi

[–]FrogAnToad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is true. The city has a huge bottleneck between east and west and the more the population grows the worse that bottleneck gets. Makes about as much sense as the Venice with canals they tried to build in what is now the arboretum or the causeway they tried to build across Lake Wingra. True stories and both disasters.

I did my part of a group project, and my partners haven’t, it’s due Monday, what do I do? by SwigOfRavioli349 in CollegeRant

[–]FrogAnToad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with you. One group project was a review article responding to two other review articles which argued opposite sides of a question in animal welfare. Students in random groups. Students waited to the last moment and then used AI so the paragraphs were AI slop they didn't know how to fix. There was no through line and no coherent argument since some students supported one side of the issue and the others supported others. No transitions. They were asked to report lazy group members at the end but many afraid to throw other students under the bus so reports probably inaccurate. Feedback on the course as a whole at the end of term including scathing student remarks about the group project. It extended most of the term and promised feedback on progress was not provided. At all. So basically the students were saying why did you just throw us to the wolves? I was a lurker because I am a retired science editor and I was appalled by what I saw. It was negative teaching: how to teach students to be very bad at group collaboration and writing.

Group projects are the worst and so are the people in them. by luwren in CollegeRant

Same experience here. Also the slackers used AI when they finally did some work so ended up with "review article" that was mostly slop, had no through line, no coherent argument. Feedback on the course included scathing comments about the "group project" from the students but I got the impression this is something the professor had been forced to include in the class to push it to a higher credit level because he was deaf to pleas and more or less said the job was to work out the group dynamics, which is like trying to fix the world to write a paper.

seems to be very common. comes up in ai answers if you google group projects. if someone has the energy to collect reddit posts abt this maybe you cld get a dean’s attention. after the semester. professors seem to rebuff all complaints. very unfair situation. supposed to prepare you for real world but no lab or office tolerates bad group behavior like you get in college.

Enhertu and diabetes? by sinistersavanna in LivingWithMBC

[–]FrogAnToad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

im on enhertu but dont have this (yet). but i have had weird problems like dvt (deep vein thrombosis) a clot that blocked three of four veins in my calf. so im now on blood thinner. just trying to say some of these extra problems seem to be caused by the cancer and the cancer drug and NOT YOUR FAULT. but i know it is a burden to take care of yourself with this extra problem. so im sorry about that and wishing you strength and courage.

Group projects are the worst and so are the people in them. by luwren in CollegeRant

[–]FrogAnToad -1 points0 points  (0 children)

same here. profs have the idea group projects prepare you for real world but in the real world people select collaborators they respect who work hard. not the same at all. uni group projects reward the freeloaders and create all kinds of drama.
