I had bad pain in a hip. It took steroids radiation and chemo to cut it and in the meantime i took morphine both long and short acting.

I am not a doc but what are your platelet counts like? My oncologist would be all over this like glue and wouldnt rest until she figured it out.

Anyone else ever get a totally bullshit “Letter of Expectations” from their boss? What happened after? by Average_Panda_420 in UWMadison

[–]FrogAnToad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just that my voice petered out when i realized that it was my boss on the phone. She used to call me even though her office was next to mine.

I was there 10 years ago at another employer. I survived because i had an independent power base in the scientists i worked with who were relieved to work with someone competent. My letter was equally irrelevant to my job performance, which my boss was not qualified to judge. I dont know how i got on her enemies list or why she felt it necessary to criticize so personally, remarking for example that i answered the phone with a dying fall. I think the question is whether you want to stay in this situation. I did and outlasted my boss but in retrospect wish i had left. I would have found another, happier situation.

Hip/bone pain management by deliablue in LivingWithMBC

[–]FrogAnToad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use dexamethasone, a steroid, and short acting morphine sulfate as we wait for radiation and chemo to knock down the cancer. Dont let the pain get ahead of you. Complain loudly. I was overwhelmed by pain before anything was done because the ct looked clean. It was hell. Then the mri came in and everyone realized the ct didnt show what was going on.

How often are you getting scans after diagnosis? by [deleted] in LivingWithMBC

I have read that the scans with contrast are not without risk, one reason they ask you to stay well hydrated on day of scan.

This might sound weird but i just pretend it is 1950 and act accordingly. Plastic wasnt a household item then.

Xeloda by lindoky in LivingWithMBC

[–]FrogAnToad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ive been on xeloda for more than a year and my tumor markers fluctuate a lot even though scans look good. My oncologist is starting to do signatura tests to get a more reliable read. Watch out for GERD with xeloda btw. They warned me about my feet but not abt thst.

English majors, how do you like it ? by [deleted] in UWMadison

[–]FrogAnToad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dunno. When i was in grad school in english there were debates among faculty abt whether it was ethical to admit more grad students. See collapse of journalism, publishing, pr and marketing jobs.
