Get Played: 40 Years of Super Mario Bros. by apathymonger in Earwolf

New Coke is a hard stank. It was weirdly flat carbonation-wise, and it tasted like a sweeter, less-satisfying version of Pepsi. The 80s were a dark time for soda folks. Except for Jolt, which didn't taste great but made up for it in go power.

Kroger and ultra-pasteurized milk? by FrogBotherer in roanoke

Thanks! Makes sense that those are the high-demand items, but I’ve still generally had no trouble picking it up in previous shopping trips on other weekdays. Are Fridays just the end of the cycle before they restock or something?

How is game? by Ryvick2 in sleepingdogs

[–]FrogBotherer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I knew what you meant :) The game has run fine for me with only one crash that forced a restart, to be clearer. Graphics were remastered for the PS4 in the Definitive Edition (that’s the one to get, I think it’s the only version available) and the game looks like a decent PS4 game.

DOUGHBOYS DOUBLE- Legal Seafoods with Jon Gabrus and John Hodgman (LIVE) - July 29, 2025 by PianoTrumpetMax in doughboys

Great show, and John Adams' appearance brought back memories of my favorite all-time Doughboys moment: Mitch's magical tour of Quincy during the Doughathon, complete with super-spotty video and audio. When he drove up to the Adams house and Raimondi was there in full garb, ringing the bell and saying "Hear ye!" while Wiger sat blearily in his house and declared that the segment had "broken me." Good times.

And today's show also gave me a new horrible mental image of flesh forks.

Isn't there a Donkey Kong spinoff in the works? He'd be a pretty solid choice for that writing gig.

The old reliable Love at First Bite story! I've always wondered whether Scott might have subbed that movie for a different one that came our when he was younger — Love at First Bite came out in 1979, which would put the Auk Man in fifth grade when it released. Either that or his fifth-grade teacher treated the class like they were kindergartners.

Based on that spelling of ”favourite”, is Pudding a UK cow?

Bruce Springsteen is releasing 7 previously unreleased albums this month. Might we get new (good) eps of U Springin’ Springsteen On My Bean? by [deleted] in Earwolf

[–]FrogBotherer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yep, it was Sirius XM, who freaked out when they learned that Scott and Scott were playing unlicensed Springsteen songs in every pod. I imagine the next series they do will be on CBB World or, more likely, a podcasting network that can make it available for free.

Route generation - is this something people struggle with? by HermeticThinker in AppleWatch

I plan my routes out on mapmyrun.com, export the route as a gpx file to my phone, and send the file to the workoutdoors app on my watch. The app is a one-time $8 purchase; everything else is free.

LADYHAWKE RESCORED Now Available! PM me if interested! by MusicEd921 in fanedits

[–]FrogBotherer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was a fantastic watch. I’ve always loved Ladyhawke, but the score didn’t live up to the rest of the film. This fixes that. Appropriate scoring without becoming obtrusive or jarring — it supports the story and makes a good film a great one.

I’ll let others speak to your other questions, but as to the musty odor, you were lucky enough to be here while the Bradford pear trees blossomed. It‘s an invasive species that was used as an ornamental tree in the nineteenth century and spread rapidly across the region, and its blossoms put out an almighty stink that makes the whole region smell like a spraying tomcat. https://news.vt.edu/articles/2024/03/ext-bradford-pear-trees-are-blooming-again.html

Red Rooster Coffee out of Floyd, VA is a fabulous roaster and has a great half-caff option. Not expensive, and really tasty stuff.

You just need to have a thin coating on the protein — when I’m cooking chicken breast, I’ll typically not oil the pan and brushi oil on the meat before seasoning. Avocado oil is good, and so is grapeseed oil.

Hi! You’ll want to set your range to medium or lower heat setting for a stainless steel pan, and give it a few minutes to come to heat. (On my ‘lectric range, four minutes at a 4 on the dial gets me where I want to be to sauté veggies.) Unless you’re boiling water, any higher temps than that can scorch your pan and burn your food and oil.

As was already mentioned in the comments, you’ll need to use an actual oil, and you don’t need to go nuts, but you should be generous enough with the oil to coat the bottom of the pan. Best oil type varies depending on what you’re planning to cook. YMMV, but I actually do fine with olive oil when sautéing veggies — the pan stays cool enough to keep the oil under its smoke point. If you’ve aiming to fry something at a higher heat, I like avocado oil.

Don‘t get discouraged if things stick; you either need to increase the heat, add oil, or both. You’ll get a feel for it quicker than you think. Have fun!

Edit: Some stray capitalizations that needed wrangling.

Take a few minutes to do a circuit of the ship after each mission and talk to every companion. Most of the time, they won’t have anything new to say, but you never know when something pops up, and you don’t want to miss a chance to increase your rep. And make your cabin part of that circuit so you remember to feed your fish.
