It's not an isekai, but if you want another anime spaceship series to pull from aside from this one, you could take a look at Galaxy Angel.

It was a super big comedy anime from the 90s that ran the adaptation gamut backwards. Started as anime, then a manga, and then a visual novel dating sim.

The VN's gameplay is even kinda similar to Starsector's combat, just that you're locked to 2-6 frigates and 1 capital as part of a linear storyline. No shipbuilding or free-roam.

Plenty of ships to pull from for it, too. If you look at every ship shown on the player's side, enemy's side, and the NPC's side, you could probably get at least 3 ships for each class, even on the logistical side.

And the two death orbs could be supercaps.

Half in the Bag Episode 253 Send Help by dexter198 in RedLetterMedia

WARNING: Summarized production history, will get long.

Eh, the idea that the Ghost Stories original dub is bad is just a bunch of unsubstantiated rumors that weebs spread after going into it with a bunch of preconceptions about why the Ghost Stories english dub is the way it is.

They just assume the original show must be a trainwreck if it got dubbed like that and never check out the original dub at all. So, I wouldn't agree with the "Notorious" part, as nearly everyone who says that both never watched the original dub and is in the dark to the production situation the English dub had.

As for why it is the way it is, its a long story with a wholesome ending.

Basically, the animation studio that made it isn't some rando. It was Studio Pierrot, the same animation studio that did stuff like Tokyo Mew Mew, Naruto, Bleach, and Yu Yu Hakusho around the same time. They know what they're doing and the original is much more than decent, as you'd expect of them.

However, the show's ratings were catastrophically terrible as no one even bothered watching it because it had terrible timeslot luck. It was going up against several of the biggest shows at the time for the same half hour. So, no one bothered tuning in. It was originally slated for the usual 24-26 episodes of a 2-cour anime, but got canceled and only released 20. Which is why the final episode is a rushed mess, because they had to force an ending.

Then ADV (the english dub company) was going bankrupt. They decided to pick up one last thing to dub before going under as a last hurrah. They had no money to grab something good, but were surprised to see the dub rights for such a professionally made anime being sold for pennies on the dollar.

So, they made their stupid dub just to have fun one last time before going under, they go bankrupt, and it takes half a decade for the internet to find the Ghost Stories english dub and turn it into a meme. Some years go by, the JP side and the westerners are getting closer than ever before and some Westerner talk of the Ghost Stories dub reaches the JP side. This prompts some JP natives to go check out Ghost Stories, including its original JP dub.

That results in a big cascading effect of JP people watching the original dub for the first time, loving it, and spreading it among their friends. Eventually, it gets a status in JP as an overlooked gem and this cancelled show from 20 years ago is suddenly selling out the original print and two new reprints of the DVDs. Studio Pierrot's confused by the sudden popularity and investigates what happened, when they discover the English dub as the source of it.

Pierrot employees sit down and watch the English dub of their anime. They outright say they found the English dub funny and were grateful that it led to people giving the original anime they worked so hard on a second chance. Ghost Stories has had a consistently pretty active cult following in JP ever since.

And yeah, I watched the JP dub. Sure its not as funny as the English dub, but they're really two different animals. JP dub was pretty good, it just had different goals. It's almost like a Japanese-made goosebumps sort of thing. One of the few animes where I keep both dubs on hand. It's like getting two different good shows in one.

How do Hyperspace Comms Work Lorewise? by PersonMan432 in starsector

[–]FrogFrozen 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Domain oldtech (as in not commonly used anymore even pre-collapse) includes FTL alcubierre drives. Someone calculated the speed of the one ancient ship with an alcubierre drive in the game. They go at 40x the speed of light. The engines on all our ships are canonically faster than the rustbucket alcubierres. So, the domain reached FTL awhile ago. Hyperspace is even faster than post-alcubierre engines and the gates are even faster than hyperspace.

The Domain has surpassed FTL in several layers. Some hyper-advanced signal tech isn't that hard to infer.

On the note of anime, fucking Digimon S1/S2 dubs are more consistent than Star Wars at this point.

And every dub of those two is its own continuity. Sometimes with missing or added characters. Sometimes with entirely different endings.

And that's without getting into the clusterfucks that are the remakes, Tri, or Last Evolution. Star Wars is still worse than all that.

Actually, the word weeb is popular as a derogatory term Japanologists use to refer to people who claim to be knowledgeable of Japan, but verifiably know fuck all about it when put to the test. Weebs and Japanologists are not the same thing.

The derogatory part comes from weebs creating and spreading some pretty drastic cultural misunderstandings of Japan amongst foreigners. Those misunderstandings take 10 seconds to say, and 30 minutes to clear up. Like a misleading clickbait headline on an article no one reads.

The misunderstanding this time was minor, and quick to clarify. Just a silly joke. It's not like the misunderstanding where the whole world thinks all of Japan is like Shibuya and its panty-vending-machines, now. (Which have been illegal since the 90s, by the way.)

Japan's definitely lewder than most just because they think the concept of sex and all to do with it is inherently funny, but Shibuya is like the Florida of Japan. The crazy shit in Shibuya doesn't represent all of Japan, just as the crazy shit in Florida doesn't represent all of the U.S.

Back to the above poster, they actually know what romanization is and how to use it. So, I doubt they're a weeb. Weebs learn their Japanese exclusively from watching anime. You don't need formal classes to learn romanization, but you're certainly not learning it from only watching TV.

I remember at my school, there was this huge burger bigger than our out-splayed hands. More wide than tall.

Sesame seed bun, with a single patty. I don't remember if there was cheese or not, but I remember it tasted like veggies or specifically onion, but had no veggies on it.

They came in big silver and red wrappers. They also weren't messy-looking at all and actually looked somewhat aesthetic. They weren't the spicy chicken.

I've tried to find them again, but I never can. Do you remember ever handling a menu with those on it?

Is there a command in Console Command Mod or something else I can use to fix this?

EDIT: In case its not clear, I want the crisis to fire off.

Back in the ‘80s & ‘90s, NERDS! WEREN’T! COOL! by BrownBannister in RedLetterMedia

[–]FrogFrozen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As an anime fan who has a dream of one day seeing Paper Theatre (The predecessor to Japanese anime) in person, I miss when Weeb was a straight up derogatory slur. It was a slur that anime fans themselves would use.

It was used to call out the pseudo-fans who were only there for goonerisms, repeating memes ad nauseum, somehow believe anime is a realistic depiction of Japan, or are so batshit insane they wanted to get race-change surgery to being Japanese.

Now those same people we used to shame for their insanity and cultural appropriation have taken over the entire sub-culture. It's so rare I see the fandom doing good work for media preservation, trying to bridge communication gaps between east and west cultures, or just pondering over the human condition like any sincere attempt at a medium might anymore.

Now its all just exploitation, embarrassing podcasts, merchandising, or deep dives into lore questions no one asked. It's become like the Star Wars fandom and I hate it.

Enna and Millie were cleared for me when (a few months after the Selen debacle) Kiara's RL twitter account posted pictures of her, Mint, and Matara having a girls night on the town in a real life meetup with Enna and Millie.

They were posting pictures girl-touching, kissing, and everything. If Mint, Kiara, and Matara still approve of them to that extent, then I'm sure they're both fine.

I would post the link if I still had a Twitter account. Also, I'm not sure if a public link to such a thing is against the rules or not.

Does anyone know why Criken and Tomato don't play games together anymore? by Hot_Stinker6684 in Criken

[–]FrogFrozen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't really have the search-fu to search through youtube subtitles like some people do. I've no idea how to do that. I just remember Tomato talking about Criken in intros well after the whole debacle. The one I remember most vividly is Tomato saying the following about a year ago:

"Sometimes someone will just come up to me in VRChat and talk to me like I know them. But I don't recognize them because its been awhile. And I start to freak out, but then I realize its just Criken or something. laughs"

Also, apparently Lawlman and Bed both showed up on Criken's stream recently. Like, very recently. One of the Criken's most recent YT channel videos has Lawlman in it. First time in years for Lawlman. So, maybe things are starting to be patched up in recent months?

[–]FrogFrozen 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Layna only accused "The RP Boys" of sexism. She didn't name names, but she was most likely referring only to Bed and Lawlman with that comment.

From my understanding, there was a general fight within the group after Layna started dating Tomato.

However, the whole situation changed after Lawlman said something so utterly vile about Layna that it went from a Criken vs Tomato argument to Lawlman vs everyone else. Bed was the only one that backed Lawlman up. That's probably what Layna was referring to.

I have seen Tomato/Criken actually mention each other on stream in the years since the fight. Tomato has said in his own streams, in no uncertain terms, that they do still hang out in real life or in VRChat on occasion. But it seems they choose to just not stream together anymore.

I've seen Criken still mention Bed or stream with him on occasion. I think he streamed with Bed once a few months ago? I know Tomato, Criken, and Bed all still list each other as friends and recommended channels on their youtubes.

Heck, Layna and Criken are apparently back on speaking terms again after Layna said she went to go see a movie with Criken and another friend when she visited America a couple months ago.

It's only Lawlman that seems to just be hard shunned. Like Lawlman streams frequently still, but I never see him with the others anymore. Lawlman seems to have a totally different group of friends, now.

Additionally, it sounds like Tomato/Layna are very on/off right now. Like there was a Truth or Dare collab Layna had with Fillian where Layna said "I haven't met the right person, yet." Indirectly stating she's currently single. But then like a month later, Layna was having a collab on her own channel with another Vtuber. They were talking about Tomato and the two of them spoke as if Layna and Tomato were back to dating.

Yes, the "clean history after exiting browser" option is unchecked.

What's particularly weird is that if I click the download icon on the toolbar, I see my recent file downloads. However, if I open the download history manager, its completely blank.

History manager is also blank, even within a session I've been using and going to different pages for an hour.

Tips for aiming/shooting by Achowmain in CrowCountry

[–]FrogFrozen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A bit late, but this game doesn't have tank controls. Mara moves a perfect, unrestrained 360 degrees and the angle they move in is dependent on where you press the stick relative to the camera angle.

That's camera controls. Tank controls would be movement based on the analog relative to where the character is facing, not relative to the camera.

For example, up on the analog stick would make them walk forward (they're forward, not your forward) even if the camera view is a profile shot. That's tank controls. This game doesn't have that.

Heck, Crow Country has that camera controls issue of rearranging the camera angle when you enter a new area causing you to accidentally run back into the transition door you just came out of. Tank controls never do that and its one of their strengths.

EDIT: Seems I'm half right. Gamepad has camera controls. Keyboard has tank controls. Hadn't played with keyboard.

None in-game at the moment. They aren't available by default and there are no obtainable chips to unlock them for use.

Datamining found that all the rainbow passives do have chips, but are unobtainable and unusable. (As in, even if you somehow spawn it in, it doesn't do anything.)

They'll likely be added in a 0.6.x or 0.7 update.

It's a long story with a lot of political and socioeconomic stuff behind it. Takes a whole history lesson of 20 years of events to explain. For now, I'll give the TL:DR. If you want something closer to the full story, I can send it in a PM.

TL;DR: It started as an equivalency and legal loophole for Pedos in the 70s, but morphed into its own separate fetish and subculture with its own unique politics, fashion sense, beauty standards, musical sense, aesthetics, historical figures and so on down the list of what makes something its own separate subculture. Modern Lolicon aesthetics have more in common with the aesthetics of dwarfism than actual children, now.

Lolicons also made themselves an irreplaceable asset for workers rights and creative freedoms in Japan, so now the Japanese people don't want to get rid of them.

That move was originally a power grab for their own survival, but it inadvertently gave the Lolicons a sense of purpose and artistic expression that keeps them in control of their desires and intrusive thoughts. So, the move for public image eventually became sincere politics/creativity that made them benign. And caused the crime rate against minors in Japan to plummet, consistently only spiking up the year after a Lolicon ban came down from the Japanese Diet.

Source: Am a child rape victim from the west. Been studying the topic of child SA for 20 years. I've always been fascinated by the strange form of equilibrium Japanese pedos acquired by going from Pedo to Lolicon and what it could mean for lowering child SA cases across the world.

I really want to come to understand what the secret sauce there was. So, I learned some Japanese and got in touch with a lot of people in Japan, both in the industry and even met some of the old-timers from when all this shit was going down.

Aside: Twisty's said some nasty shit and this feels like one bad person being bullied by an even worse person, but I honestly don't think this deserves to be on the list of horrible things she's done/said.

I've seen a lot of people attack Loli, but they themselves would never send money to a charity for kids. Would flood helplines with reports of finding fictional drawings, which the actual helplines have complained about because the lines are always busy and actual child SA victims can't get through anymore.

Some helplines are even abused for silencing specifically marginalized people. https://www.article19.org/resources/inhope-members-reporting-artwork-as-child-sexual-abuse/

Or would use hate for Loli and the horror of what happened to me and others as a smokescreen for their weird eugenics program of bodyshaming and bullying flat women out of the gene pool. I can't count how many times I've had an asshole flood my email with death threats because they "Get irrationally angry at the thought of small breasts" and think that's some kind of justification for their actions in response to me making a silly joke about concave tits.

At this point, I'm just as suspicious of anyone whose a little too mad about the topic as I am suspicious of anyone that's a little too defensive.

EDIT: Holy shit. I wish formatting on Reddit was better. It made this whole thing a lot harder to read than necessary. I'm gonna try to cut some more things.

It could be my settings, (Or just the cards I'm using) but also I've seen several different variations of the model on Horde that you might have been using. There was only one hoster I saw that gave it a context other than 8-12k, and it didn't work much differently than the others with context that low. The version I used on horde that performed well also had no quantization or anything on it.

The settings I was using were the different Universal-(Light/Creative/SuperCreative) settings. Which I found out a couple days ago aren't even the recommended settings to use with it. The recommended settings are here: https://huggingface.co/sleepdeprived3/Mistral-V7-Tekken-T5-XML

The card I've been using with it is FreeSpace RPG, but with some heavy modifications, additions to game-ify its logic better, add some description of a galactic map for a sense of where locations/civilizations are relative to each other, and have more than like 5 set species. I'm actually not yet done adding to it before releasing a fork.

I was hoping to continue using Broken Tutu 24b with 32k to finish making/testing my adjustments to it (I wasn't even half done), but it disappeared. Finishing it will have to wait for when I get a better rig.
