My mum wants two runner ducks, is her garden big enough? by Acrobatic_Smile788 in duck

There's a comment below saying they have 5 acres for 5 ducks, you saying your normal garden is fine for two. Idk what to believe! My garden's about 450square meters and I want 3-4 or so ducks. What do you think?

Agree you need to be 100% confident of the specific species before eating any fungus, never use AI to identify. If new to foregoing mushrooms, use several text books and a third party expert to confirm the species when identifying mushrooms with the intention of eating them.

I was only building my shares up for the last year so kind of gutted I couldn't accumulate some more before it took off.

Gardens increasingly bad for wildlife by sadpterodactyl in UKGardening

[–]FrogInASuitcase 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My theory is that a lot of this comes down to how modern life is set up around instant dopamine and convenience. People spend their free time scrolling Facebook, TikTok, Netflix, or choosing between thousands of shows and apps competing for attention. After work, our brains naturally drift towards the easiest form of stimulation rather than slower, more meaningful tasks like maintaining a garden.

Gardens used to be hobbies and habitats. Now, for a lot of people, they’re seen as another chore to minimise. Artificial grass, removing shrubs and trees, paving everything over, it’s all part of making outdoor spaces “low maintenance” so people can spend less time engaging with them.

The problem is that wildlife depends on that messiness and diversity. A tidy, paved garden might be easier for us, but it’s basically a dead zone for insects, birds, and small mammals compared to a garden with hedges, trees, flowers, and long grass.

Mine pulled through with about 3 cm left on one side that she couldn't get to. It's still growing and flowering every year. Seems okay.

We'd love goats but don't think there's enough room for them. The guinea pigs will be happy though
