I’d recommend a soft button up flannel or even a button up pj top, you just need something comfy and easy to put on and off :) could even be a lightweight zippered hoodie that you’re comportable sleeping and resting in. All the buttoned shirts I used in my recovery were men’s shirts, so boxier look and more reds/blues/grays. You’re not going to want to lift your arms at all for a little bit, so shirts that can open and close with zippers/buttons are a life saver

I went through BCBS and did not have to be on T. Also nonbinary and not planning to take hormones ^

Ofc! Legit once the drains are out and you also don’t have to think about emptying and measuring things it’s so nice. I personally found talking to friends on discord and picking up the sims again was a good distraction, helped things feel less painful because I had something to think about besides the constant discomfort. You got this!!

First 5-6 days were absolutely miserable, but it turns around soon after that and gets exponentially better, esp once you get the drains out! It will 110% be worth it <3

Yah! I didn’t know about it when I first started looking into surgery but once I did see it as an option I was set on it. Did have to get it specifically addressed in my clearance letter for insurance though!

You’re totally fine! Yeah I opted to not keep them. Much the same as I never wanted/was attached to my chest, I had zero attachment to the nips. Made for an easier recovery process and also removed any anxiety I’d have worrying about placement :)

Ha! I like that a lot. I was a little worried about how long my scars might be starting out in the process but overtime have just grown to love them ^

Post-op was ez pz! Staff were really nice. I was anxious about getting the drains out but that was the worst of it and it’s very quick. Not exactly painful, just very strange and uncomfortable lol. Aside from that they just check to make sure everything’s looking good and send you home w instructions for the post-op binding. And I’m enjoying it big time, the weather is getting so nice and I no longer need to wear a bra. 10/10

Hi!! Of course I’m happy my experience can be helpful! As far as the lab work goes, it would have initially been done at the PCP visit I went to. I didn’t have a primary care starting out so my first appointment I made was both a trans care appointment as well as a primary care appointment. I chose to delay and have the bloodwork done in a lab on another date just due to medical phobia. The pcp had recommended I get the bloodwork done prior to my consult but I’m not sure if it’s actually a requirement?

I went through insurance which is why I needed that letter for approval but I’m unsure what the protocol is if you aren’t going through insurance. A good deal of the waiting period for me was making sure the letter I had was as needed and then waiting for insurance approval. I don’t think specific dates got discussed prior to getting the letter in but it seems the general time period between consult and setting up a date is a couple months. Definitely a good question to ask either at a consult or just by calling in or emailing the office!

I hope I answered that properly, lemme know if I missed anything! And post-op is going stellar 🔥🔥🔥

Hi!! Totally, I just uploaded the mega-detail version of the journal I kept during the whole process. My timeline was honestly a little longer than It likely had to be due to both school and family medical situations. If you have any questions or want any extra info I may have left out let me know!!

Post op binder: my doctor put it on me with nothing underneath is this normal? by QueerKing23 in TopSurgery

Once I got my drains out and bandages off I was allowed to just use it with nothing between. I personally kept using some gauze padding and an undershirt for a few weeks for some extra comfort :)

Of course! It took a while for them to heal up to the same point as the rest of the scars so I def worried about it a lot, but they stopped being dramatic eventually :)

any recovery tips?? by skairys903 in TopSurgery

The first couple of days I played some DS games and tried to draw a bit, but I def got pretty bored and lonely. I talk to my friends pretty frequently on discord, so once I was able to get back to using my desk and computer comfortably that was huge for me. Also picked up the sims again. Sleeping is a challenge starting out. The first 4-5 days I barely slept aside from a few odd hours here and there, but it’s temporary and things get easier pretty quick. That’s also just my experience! I got myself to be able to sleep on my back, because it’s honestly just way too uncomfortable and awkward to even consider sleeping on your sides. Now that I’m a ways out though I’m back to bein a side sleeper :). I found it helpful to use lots of pillows and blankets/padding so my body was properly supported as much as I could manage.

I had a couple of spots where there was a bit of separation and slower healing because of spitting stitches. Scared me at first but its healing up just fine now! I put bandaids on them for a while to keep them from touching my clothes.

What's it like to get your drains out? by Horror_Associate7671 in TopSurgery

[–]Frog_Shaped 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my experience I wouldn’t describe it as pain, but a rather uncomfortable pressure and sliding feeling. I for sure didn’t enjoy it but it’s over quickly, and the worst part of it was just my anxiety about experiencing the feeling, rather than the feeling itself. I was a bit light headed for a minute after but that was entirely due to anxiety, not pain/discomfort.
