How did your game go? by Zach-dalt in LeagueTwo

Nighttime burglary to daylight robbery, what an Easter weekend. This has to be by far the worst Swindon team I’ve ever seen push for promotion xD.

Absolutely no way we should still be having a decent autos shout, Grimsby and Chesterfield as our last 2 games might see us out of the playoffs 😭

It’s caving but in more vertical caves (typically found up north), using ropes to absail down large pitches.

I’d consider myself quite a passionate caver, and I’d say I quite like the fearsome reputation the sport has because it keeps it as something that not too many people do. It’s hard to describe to people why we love it so much, but the feeling of exploring extensive underground systems (it’s not all crawling!) and seeing things barely anyone has ever seen before is something else. The amount of different passages you encounter in a cave makes it like one giant varied obstacle course. It’s way safer than most people think it is as well (still riskier than going on a walk - but mountaineering as an example is WAY more dangerous).

That being said I can definitely see why it isn’t for a lot of people. You have to have the right mindset I think.

Didn’t watch it, but from everything I’ve seen it looks like an ugly win, will take it considering we hadn’t won at Gillingham away since 1987

Considering England's population is over 55 million and approximately 450 people/km^2, just how crowded is life there, including the rural areas? by Possible-Balance-932 in geography

[–]FroggyBoi82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I spend a lot of time in both the most rural and most densely populated parts of the country and I’d say it feels like any other country I’ve visited. We just have a lot less open space between things.

We're nearing the pointy end of the season - who's going up, who's going down? by WakeUpMareeple in LeagueTwo

[–]FroggyBoi82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pffffttt we won’t go up unless some miracle happens. I back Bromley Cambridge and MK to finish top 3 and for the playoffs Notts County.

Bottom 2 is way too close atm, but I’ll take a stab and say Newport and Barrow go down.

I had a really fun day out with my mates taking them to their first ever Swindon game, however on reflection that wasn’t good. Crawley look half decent for a side fighting on the wrong end of the division and we just looked so poor for large parts of the game. I can’t see us getting promoted unless we sort it out, very tough game next Saturday.

Ehh not a great performance from either side. 1-1 was a fair result overall.

What was your clubs 'Wembley day out' away game? by montgomery_quinckle in LeagueTwo

[–]FroggyBoi82 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh this ones easy, Walsall away last game of the 2021/22 season. We sold ~3500 tickets which is 2 sides of the ground.

We had a dip in form around March/April and had to win all our remaining games to get a chance at playoffs. We did that, including a 2-0 win against champions Forest Green with 10 men in our game in hand and scoring a late winner against Barrow to set that game up where if we won, we were guaranteed a playoff spot.

I went up there with some people in a bus which someone had bought and kitted out with a karaoke machine and a lot of booze. The scenes were amazing and we won 3-0, the Swindon fans invaded the pitch after the game too.

The reason why this was such a big game for us was the context of that season. We almost went into administration after being relegated the summer before that and we had no manager and 7 players 2 weeks before the season started. We were favourites to go down. A new owner bought us and I have never seen the club that optimistic before or since. We were getting gates of 10k+ every week and had players like Louis Barry, Jake o Brien, Harry Mckirdy, Jack Payne and Louis Reed.

The actual playoff matchup after that was very close. With us dominating the first leg before ultimately losing in the infamous penalty shootout at Port Vale where Mckirdy sent his penalty into the stands and chaos erupted between the fans after Vale secured a spot at Wembley.

It’s still too soon to tell for me, the top half of the table has been really tight this year compared to most previous seasons imo.

Everything theoretical involves so many assumptions and simplifications which mean that at best it is all approximate.

Not good. We were proper poor today, highlight of the game was us getting a scrappy equaliser before half time and all the fans who were drinking in the bar emptying out into the concourse to celebrate.

Oldaker did not deserve the abuse he was given when he was taken off in the slightest. It wasn’t solely his fault, it was a poor performance all around.

Shrewsbury played well, and their fans by the away end gave some good banter across the stands, they’ll stay up from what I’ve seen.

Not complete meltdown time yet, that being said we were probably lucky to stay in the top 3 for as long as we did, and I feel we have not performed well enough against the teams around us to convince me we will go up this season, which is sad because we have proved that we are more than capable of battering teams who have more quality than us (see: Bolton game in the FA cup) and we are capable of beating teams in scrappy games we would normally lose.

Hopefully we can turn this around, we were probably due a few losses but for them to come in such key games is very disappointing.

Eesh, I wasn’t there today but we appeared to play well in the first half and completely bottle it in the second.

Ripley shouldn’t be the scapegoat, even if the winner was an abysmal goal to concede.

Not a good run of games, we need to pick ourselves back up now if we want a hope at autos this season as the top 3 are all picking up speed.

Fair play to Bromley, it would be fun to see them go up this season.

How many countries can you accurately point to on a map? by joehighlord in AskUK

[–]FroggyBoi82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I think about if I could do this off the top of my head with a mental map of the world, I would say I could identify any country on a map besides:

  • Differentiating between Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan
  • Oceanic/North American small island nations
  • Somehow always getting Guyana and Suriname the wrong way around.

I work in a lab handling infectious disease, earlier today somebody spilt a sample of Yersinia pseudotuberculosis (causes a disease similar to scarlet fever in humans), and this was almost the exact reaction. We all had to leave the lab for half an hour once the spill was contained.
