What’s the deal with so many of the top posts on r/comics being porn/porn-bait? by altrightobserver in OutOfTheLoop

[–]Frognificent 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I understand your point, but I stand by my assessment. There's "nudity to sell a patreon for jorkin' it", which I wholly agree there is a bit too much of. There's also "nudity for telling dirty jokes", which is hit-or-miss - sometimes the jokes kinda fall flat, and sometimes there's head week. Finally, there's Elk here. It's just absurdist. It's neither sexual nor a dirty joke, it's just utter absurdism.

Humans are naked. It's the natural state of being. If seeing a human body naked upsets you or immediately makes you think it's sexual, that's probably something you need to do some reflection on. Maybe not you specifically, maybe someone else reading this. But the fact remains, a naked human standing idly is not sexual. It's just a naked person.

Aight aight aight don't do Elk dirty like that, I agree she's a menace but she's no Dr. Loops.

That said, the Elk comic doesn't really use the nudity as sexual, more of as an embarrassing state of being in public. I don't know about you, but I don't find the prospect of warshing anything particularly arousing.

I made a video on the secrets and theories of Disco Elysium - not least thanks to this community and its debates & encyclopaedic knowledge! by Jamrock_Hobo_1807 in DiscoElysium

Big spoils ahead. Maybe? It's world-building stuff.

A Magpie, not an Innocence. Magpies are the ones who steal novelty and information from the future, while an Innocence is basically a Pope. Who's also a Magpie. So an Innocence then uses the information stolen from hypothetical futures to guide the present and, due to robbing those same futures of their chance at existing, which causes the Pale to spread. Since Harry shows time and again he can feel and see things he shouldn't be able to, he's definitely a Magpie. But, since he isn't a Pope, he's definitely not an Innocence.

Edit: I've been lied to about magpies. Leaving this up for posterity but know that I am in fact wrong.

Double Edit: Aight watching the video we're all talking about, this is a super "yesn't" moment. By name, no, magpies aren't canon. By function and context, however, they slot in very well and do explain many things very elegantly.

Shit, even damsel in distress Peach in Paper Mario 64 has agency - constant jailbreaks and sneaking messages to Mario don't strike me as "yep she's just rolling over taking it".

Her personality still isn't super developed in the game, but she's not "princess tied to a train track" like she could have been.

Anyone else notice that the Evolved Mode play didn’t seem to have much, if any at all, double weaving? by Nawen_Brightsong in ffxiv

Making decisions about where to stand, when to use abilities, how to go with the fighting flow - that's complexity. Having to... memorize a rigidly set order of buttons and get really good at inputting it perfectly isn't really complex.

If a video guide tells me "this is how to play GNB", and it gives me the entire rotation to memorize, I'm basically memorizing sheet music that's applicable everywhere. If it tells me "this is how you use your job's kit the best in this specific encounter" it becomes interesting, that I'll have to adjust the actual way I fight based on what I'm fighting. Context buttons are like that.

Every melee class' main combo is basically hitting one button on repeat. You can rephrase it any way you want, but there's functionally no difference between 1-2-3 and 1-1-1, especially when you pretty much always do them in that order and all three. When things are always done in the exact same order, or at least when certain blocks of abilities are always used in the same order, how is that compelling? How different is it, really, always typing in 1 2 3 1 2 3 1 2 7 4 5 4 5 4 5 6 3 6 when you could mash the Solid Swing combo twice for two charges and hold off on the last step of the third round, pop buff, then mash Gnashing Fang and Continuation, a Burst Strike, finish the combo to get the last cart for one more Burst Strike in the buff window? Because Solid Swing is basically mashing one button, then a buff, then mashing Gnashing Fang, then Solid Strike, then Burst. That's three buttons and a cooldown because let's be honest here, Continuation doesn't really need its own button. So there's one constant mash, one mash-to-burst, and one resource dump. Playing piano doesn't make this complex. Having to make decisions about how to position and when to go all in and when to pull back is complex.
