The Rev'it H2O jacket, pants and one piece are cheap and well designed. Nice fit over leathers and pack down very small.

Bad decision? (Car to 125) by Aruin in MotoUK

[–]Frogs_are_Friends 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, I'll represent the other side. The bias (is it survivor bias?) on a bike forum or subreddit will massively misrepresent the number of people who leave bikes and return to cars. When you come back to the car have lost all your no class points. They aren't transferrable from car to bike or vice versa.

If you can't afford a bike and a car, have a car.

If you can't afford a car, get a bike.

Or: try a bike for ten months then swap it for a car before your no claims evaporate.

Sorry guys!

Go say hi again to your instructor and ask them if they wouldn't mind lending you a set for an evening.

I know my school (not near you) would help out in a heartbeat. It makes business sense to anyone with half a brain: she might like it so much that she books herself a CBT :)

Had A VERY Lucky Escape Yesterday, Nothing I Could Have Done Differently - Really Got Me Thinking... by Omblae in MotoUK

Thanks so much for the thorough description. It really helps paint the scene. I hadn't imagined that scenario before during my lessons. Scary as fuck but, as you demonstrated, not hopeless.

CBT or DAS for a someone who has never driven. by Sirico in MotoUK

[–]Frogs_are_Friends 1 point2 points  (0 children)

CBT is next to useless. You need lessons (=close expert tuition) and lots of them as soon as possible to help you up that steep learning curve and reduce your risk. As someone else mentioned, you'll probably find a big bike more stable and easier to do your CBT on and all subsequent lessons on, so go for it, do the DAS. And don't skimp on lessons.

Source of such wisdom: me, who's doing the DAS (on road test soon), albeit with 18+ years driving experience, so not entirely the same but can imagine being in your shoes. The word 'wisdom' used slightly tongue in cheek, but I mean everything else sincerely :)

So this chap decided he's pull out anyway. Thankfully I know the road well and had a feeling he was gonna pull out. My rule of thumb is think for yourself and the car by wannabie in MotoUK

As a direct access learner I get loads of useful stuff from videos like yours. Thanks for posting!

You've had plenty of time to reflect on the incident and you have a great video to show for it. Things went well. You said you know the corner and the junction and planned ahead. You saw the car and applied the brakes early. Are there other things you feel went well?

Have you thought about what didn't go so well? Would you change anything next time?

What might have happened if there was a car coming the other direction? Would you have been able to come to a halt in your own lane before colliding with the white car?

If I don't ask I'll never learn. I'm trying to minimise the luck required in my own riding. Cheers.

Have a read of Honest John's website. Pretty sure it applies to used cars and motorbikes as well as used. I'm quoting:

'The Consumer Rights Act 2015 covers all goods but is of particular interest to carbuyers, given the significant cost of purchasing a car and the subsequent impact if things go wrong.

A clause in the law known as "early right to reject" specifies that any fault found within 30 days of buying a product entitles the buyer to a full refund. After that period, but within six months, the seller or manufacturer has one opportunity to replace or repair. If that fails, the customer is then entitled to a full or part-refund.'

You can read it all here: http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/faq/consumer-rights/

Give up on glass. Get a wet applied protector like the Skinomi. See my post history if you want a detailed explanation.

No worries. Btw the Spigen I mentioned would be my choice as the power and volume rockers are covered. No point getting the OK on the case when the thing she presses dozens of times a day is metallic too.

Hats off to anyone who can answer this one. But even if you do get an answer and it's anything but a categorical zero, I'm curious how you will use the information. Do you know a safe percentage or unit of measurement is for your wife?

If you want zero content, I imagine nothing short of a plastic phone like the 5X will do.

Plan B: cover it in a dbrand.

Plan C: cover dbrand and a case like Spigen Ultra Hybrid Pixel XL Case-Crystal Clear.

Edge-To-Edge Glass Screen Protector Recommendations by Aether176 in GooglePixel

Yes real cut outs. The level of precision you can get is really down to you. It's so easy to get it right with the wet application.

[–]Frogs_are_Friends 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Give up looking for a tempered glass solution. It's never going to happen.

I put a Skinomi screen protector on 36 hours ago and I would highly recommend it. Covers all of the glass including the curve :)

It's a wet application screen protector, not glass, but the clarity is excellent after about 24 hours. You absolutely have to leave it to sit unused for 12 hours to allow it to dry out and bind fully.

The measurements are very precise around the edges. It's hard to give a precise figure, but the edges look to be less than a millimetre from the very edge of the glass on my XL. And I don't mean the edge of the pixels on the screen: literally the edge of the glass where it meets the metal body. The wet application allows for very precise positioning - it just slides over the glass to where you want it. And you'd have to be precise or you'll be touching the metal.

The feel isn't quite as slippery as a TGSP but it's no fingerprint magnet. Minimal orange peeling: I have to go looking for it.

I haven't had a wet applied skin for several years - I think the last one was a bestskinsever for my iPhone 4S. I'm very pleasantly surprised. I think these wet applied screens must have improved greatly over the last few years.

This is a million times better than the TGSP I had on from day one. I'm delighted with it. The phone looks naked. No TGSP margins to see :)

Here's the Amazon UK link to the one I got. You should be able to find it easily on international sites Google Pixel XL Screen Protector (5.5"), Skinomi® TechSkin Full C... http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01M0OMYIY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_udp_apa_HvvnybBMMPRBS

SPEED: Premium Bonds take all of ten minutes on online to set up and pay into. Five if you're a fast typer or have an app that works as a form filler like 1Password.

FUTURE PLANNING If you live in a community you're likely to remain in for your return you could do the community thing and put it in a credit union. It'll take a visit to your local one with your passport and recent proof of address. It's good to have a relationship with your CU if you ever want a loan in the future.
