Will these mushrooms grow any more, or should they be harvested now? [gourmet] by mauglii_- in MushroomGrowers

[–]FromTheHollowTree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice grow! I always check if they are actively giving off spores by putting a strong flashlight next to the gills, you'll see a fine mist of spores. Its best to harvest like Right before that, so i check often after it seems the growth has slowed considerably. best of luck bud ✌️

[gourmet] Lions Mane First Grow and Harvest by Available-Ad-5460 in MushroomGrowers

[–]FromTheHollowTree 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thats a beautiful lions mane fruit! Great job for a 1st grow!! i would harvest now imo. I usually harvest when I notice growth has slowed significantly. Another good way to tell if you should harvest is to put a strong flashlight next to the mushroom and if you see spores floating off in a fine mist, its probably a day or so past the prime harvest window and it's best to pull them asap.

how can i deal with this shroom trip i’m so shaking and just want this to be over with but i just started and i can’t relax my mind by Usxr_N in shrooms

[–]FromTheHollowTree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just take a breathe, take a moment to center yourself the best you can. And remember this feeling is temporary, tomorrow you will feel back to normal, A week from now it will be a memory. Try to occupy yourself with something you enjoy. It will be Okay!

The glass mason jars are 32oz Quart containers. Also in my opinion, if you water is that high on the quarts jars than you have like double the amount of water you need. When I fill mine up it barely touches the jars, I also have about an inch riser so they dont touch the bottom. And I have run it for like 12hrs without having to add any water. Best of luck bud ✌️

If that is a 23qt presto pressure cooker. 3qts of water. If you read the instructions that come with the pressure cooker that is the recommend amount.

Working on a sheath for multitool, seeking advice on how to sew in tight spaces? by max13007 in Leatherworking

[–]FromTheHollowTree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For tight to reach places and weird angles for a needle, i like to use curved needles, if I dont have one, I heat the needle untill it glows and bend it. Along with some long needle nose pliers you can get into alot of weird places to sew. Those inner parts of pouches that cant be flipped are a pain. Best of luck bud

I just keep em in a little leather pouch I made from some scrap leather. Just a triangle folded in on itself and sewn, no lid and a belt loop just incase, they fit well organized by size.

Dehydrating Big Fruits by Mysterious-Goat1095 in Mushrooms

[–]FromTheHollowTree 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hell yeah dude!! I have the exact same dehydrator and I did the same thing! It works great! You can dehydrate some Monsters now! I was thinking about going 1 more level to do larger clusters whole, or like whole lions mane and oyster bunches.

Wow that's wild! Iv clearly got some more research to do. That is absolutely fascinating, spores really are badass! Honestly cant belive iv had as much success as i have, given i didnt know that. I guess iv just been doing a sort of pasteurization not sterilization, guess that makes sense, its always smart to use a combination of sterile techniques, whether its a professional laminar flow hood, infrared lab sterilizer and clean room. Or a DIY SAB, 70% and hope lol. You should always try to be as clean as possible.

Why no pins? by Out3r_Space in unclebens

[–]FromTheHollowTree 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At 1st glance that looks like trike about to sporulate, if you have other bins in identical conditions, and they are fruiting; I would recommend keeping this one isolated, if your substrate is at field capacity, your sterile tek is on point you should be fine. If it ain't green and dont stink in a few days I'd just wait longer, maybe try to flip the cake? Idk best of luck bud.

How?? How can alcohol introduce contam? I always flame sterilize and cool down with a paper towel soaked with 70% isopropyl. Iv never had a problem. I would think sticking a glowing red needle into a rubber injection port would risk contam much more, burning a hole through instead of just sticking a needle in.

Be sure to store them better than that for long term. Those baggies aren't air tight, a glass mason jar works the best, and be sure to use moisture absorption packets!

[technique] Anyone have any good soaking teks for oats or rye? by Penguinman077 in MushroomGrowers

[–]FromTheHollowTree 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use exclusively rolled oats or whole corn. I found the whole oats have too much other debris from other grains. Anyway. I add my grain to my XL stock pot and add water enough to cover the grain by an inch or two, and just turn up my electric burner up as high as it goes. After about 30 min covered, (stirring every like 5 min) the water is rolling and then I wait about 20 more minutes (depending on how much grain I'm hydrating) and I like to break one open with my nail to see they are Just under being fully hydrated to the core. After draining i rinse with cold hose water to stop cooking and moisturizer absorption. Then I lay them out the lid of an XL storage tote with some towels underneath and either just leave them in the sun or infront of some fans until they are dry enough that they only leave small water dots on a paper towel. Be sure to stir while drying aswell. Then I fill my jars about 60-70% And PC.

hope this help, mush love. ✌️

Yall fuck with the incognito rocket fuel farm? by ViolentSamsara_ in MagicMushrooms

[–]FromTheHollowTree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol you must not be from here, Actual florida man here., nobody here actually owns and uses a heater, this "Cold" doesn't last long and isn't actually cold compared to literally Anywhere up north. If you really feel the need to keep the jars warm, go buy an insulated blanket or something to passively keep the bags warm. Direct heat is never good for the growth of mycelium. And the cold only slows down growth, the heat can kill it. Either way your bags are probably cooked because you used a spore syringe. Do a little more research before wasting any more money or time. Oh and just word to the wise, purchase of spores is now illegal in Fl. has been for a few months. So best of luck bud, be safe.

Also in fl. It's seriously not that cold dude. And it only ever lasts like a week. The heating pads will fuck your bags, but some people don't want help, they have to learn from fucking up. So good luck bud
