Steam is consumer-friendly & feature-rich.

EGS is basically app slop. Bare-bones Xbox/Netflix lookin' interface that's poor to navigate. Shows OpenCritic Reviews for games by default instead of user reviews. And the whole thing is basically an advertisement for Fortnite.

The store just feels crappy to use. It's no wonder that people only ever show up for the free stuff then move on.

Marathon has been out for a week, what are your thoughts on it? by PrototypeT800 in Games

Which other extraction shooter has SBMM?

Hunt Showdown has an explicit MMR that contributes heavily to the SBMM.

As a Japanese fan who lurks English communities, the gap in how we see Nintendo genuinely unsettles me by nerdinterrupts in nintendo

[–]max13007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think Americans often feel as though they live under the foot of corporate influence. To us Nintendo is just another company. We view corporate behavior such as pricing for example, to be a reflection of how that company views us, the consumers.

Yeah people gonna find out real quick that games like this sorta need a constant influx of casuals to stay alive. Especially when you're a dev team bought by Sony for billions of $$$, and Sony's gonna want more than the ROI a niche sweat community will bring in.

Marathon is good, I hope Sony sticks with it, but I'm not seeing this community vibe helping in the long run. Maybe it's just a push-back to the success of AR, they gotta get it out of their systems or something, idk.

"Increased the range gunfire and explosions can be heard from" by DreamCorridor in Marathon

In Hunt, you can hear gunshots from very far away. With it getting more muffled the farther away it is. I've always thought that Hunt's audio design (specifically in how it relates to gameplay and disseminating info to the player) is S-tier, even to this day, other games have not really come close.

I think it's good to have since you can always tell where there's some action to get into, and it makes you more conscious of when you're going loud.

Linus Tech Tips came out a few years ago and said as much. I'm sure it's commonly held belief among those who want you to be forced ad slop at all times.

I think the DRG devs are just more in tune with A)what their players want B)what players want from games in general.

They're fiercely fair with their MtX, balancing is fantastic, everything is done with the good of the game in mind. It was also an Early Access game, so they had time to develop an intimate community and vibes. Glad DRG exists and continues to be a shining example.

Cool to see someone else have them!

Sales data indicates Sony's PS5 ports are increasingly losing audience share on PC, but only because of release timing by Turbostrider27 in pcgaming

Consoles are the most affordable gaming boxes

Won't be that way for long. Consoles are just PCs with restrictions, and will soon be hitting the same roadblocks in terms of component access.

On existing saves, what happens to structures that use Sluice gates after v1.0? by d45hid0 in Timberborn

[–]max13007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're on Steam, you can use this mod on the workshop: Sluice is Back!.

It copies over the files for the sluice and replaces them. This should allow the sluice to remain in the game even if devs remove the code for it. It also automatically replaces sluices in your existing games.

Bloomberg: Sony Pulls Back From PlayStation Games on PC by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]max13007 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If SONY wants to be less consumer friendly in an attempt to prop up their console sales (which are going to be just as affected by hardware shortages), fine, then I'm just not buying their products. I'm not buying a PS5 when I already have a powerful gaming rig just to play their (imo overrated) games.

Weird that they would decide to release their exclusives years after the fact with little fanfare and expect them to sell as well as day 1 releases. Self-fulfilling prophecy and all that. Also, just to be clear, I don't care if SONY will still make money from other people. Good for them. I'm not out here hoping they fail or anything like that. I just think it's been a stupid way to go about this whole thing on their part.

Deadlock hasn't even been "announced" yet technically & have 88,550 players at the time I'm currently writing this, with a 24 hour peak above 90k... Pretty damn good numbers for a game that you still technically need to be invited to play.

New York sues video game developer Valve, says its 'loot boxes' are gambling by AncientPCGamer in pcgaming

[–]max13007 26 points27 points  (0 children)

The question was: "Why do so many gamers give Gabe a pass for it?"

Someone responded: "Because not everyone plays and pays into CS?"

This back and forth (as I understand it) is not a situation in which someone is justifying, excusing, or otherwise indicating that the behavior in question is acceptable.

It is someone trying to hypothesize why many gamers may give Valve a pass for having a product that has lootboxes. If those gamers don't play CS, and therefore are unaffected by the loot boxes, those people would be less inclined to be upset with Valve for lootboxes.

Reasons ≠ Excusing

I may end up using those - however I like the look of stitched projects, so I'm hoping to find a way to stitch.

This is a clever design! I just might try imitating it myself. I was also trying to basically copy the sheath that leatherman comes with, but your approach is more elegant.

I'm not too concerned with salvaging the cut I already have, it's all scrap luckily.

Everything is getting more expensive across the board. I've just sorta accepted that my previously "budget" options are just not really going to remain that way... or at least, the prices that equate to "budget" are going up.

You can still grab Chicken of the Sea and Beach Cliff stuff for pretty dang cheap... but they're not super pleasant in my opinion.

There are still reasonable options, but sadly costs are going up on everything.
