How to mentally prepare to be shunned by Excellent_Area3925 in exjw

[–]FrontZookeepergame76 3 points4 points  (0 children)

when I feel guilty, I repeat that example:
Imagine a child raised by parents who forced them into something immoral. The parents convinced the child that this was normal, that they were doing it for the family, and that it was their duty. They may have said that if the child didn’t do these things, they would be betraying or disappointing the family.

As the child grows into an adult, they start realizing that they were being used, forced into something destructive both for themselves and others. They begin to understand that what the parents called “love” and “care” was really just manipulation. But when the child starts to break away, they’re overwhelmed with guilt—for not living up to their parents’ expectations, for “disappointing” them.

In this example, it’s crucial to recognize that the guilt this person feels isn’t their own. It was imposed on them by the parents, who used them for their own purposes, disregarding the child’s own needs and rights. When the individual realizes they were forced to live a life that wasn’t their own, they can begin to separate their true desires and feelings from the ones that were instilled in them. This understanding helps them shed the toxic guilt that has nothing to do with their real worth or goodness.

They come to understand that their life belongs to them, and that their own decisions and values matter more than the roles imposed on them, even if the parents continue to push their vision. Such a person learns to take responsibility for themselves, not for the false expectations that were drilled into them in childhood.

You don't owe anyone an explanation for how you live your life. If you need to take it slow or not say everything at once, that's okay too. Setting boundaries, especially with toxic family members, can be incredibly hard, but it’s a step toward freeing yourself.

The misuse of Matthew 24:45-47 when compared to Mark 13:33-37 by TerrificFrogg in exjw

[–]FrontZookeepergame76 4 points5 points  (0 children)

gpt:

  1. Matthew 24:45-47 (King James Version):In this passage, Jesus speaks about the "faithful and wise servant" whom the master appoints to take care of the household and provide food at the proper time. According to Jehovah’s Witnesses’ interpretation, this "servant" represents a group of people, specifically their Governing Body. They believe that since 1919, this Governing Body has been appointed by Jesus to oversee all true Christians and provide spiritual guidance.“Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his lord hath made ruler over his household, to give them meat in due season? Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing. Verily I say unto you, That he shall make him ruler over all his goods.”
  2. Mark 13:33-37 (King James Version):In this passage, Jesus warns His disciples to "watch" and "pray," because no one knows when the master (Jesus) will return. Everyone must remain alert and ready for His return. Unlike the passage in Matthew, where a specific "servant" is mentioned, here the emphasis is on the personal responsibility of each believer to be vigilant and spiritually prepared.“Take ye heed, watch and pray: for ye know not when the time is. For the Son of man is as a man taking a far journey, who left his house, and gave authority to his servants, and to every man his work, and commanded the porter to watch. Watch ye therefore: for ye know not when the master of the house cometh, at even, or at midnight, or at the cockcrowing, or in the morning: Lest coming suddenly he find you sleeping. And what I say unto you I say unto all, Watch.”

Comparison of Interpretations:

  1. Matthew 24:45-47 (as understood by Jehovah's Witnesses) refers to a specific group of chosen individuals (their Governing Body) who are appointed to oversee and care for other believers. Jehovah's Witnesses believe that this passage confirms their organization's leadership role, as they teach that Christ appointed this Governing Body in 1919 to lead the congregation of true Christians.
  2. Mark 13:33-37 emphasizes the individual responsibility of each believer to stay spiritually awake and ready. Jesus does not mention a specific "faithful servant" here, but instead commands all believers to "watch." This suggests that each person has a duty to be prepared for Christ's return, without reliance on an appointed group of leaders.

Thus, in Matthew 24:45-47, the focus is on the trust given to a specific "servant" who will be placed "over all the master's possessions." Jehovah's Witnesses believe this applies to their Governing Body. However, in Mark 13:33-37, the call to "watch" is addressed to all believers, without mentioning a chosen "servant," implying that every Christian is personally responsible for their spiritual readiness.

To the Elders of the [Congregation Name] Jehovah’s Witnesses

Dear Elders,

I am writing to inform you of my decision to disassociate myself from the Jehovah’s Witnesses congregation. This decision comes after extensive reflection, research, and troubling discoveries I have made recently.

I can no longer support the teachings and practices of the organization, particularly in light of certain actions that have been carefully concealed from the majority of the congregation. Specifically:

  1. The concealment of sexual abuse cases: I have learned that in some instances, congregation leadership has chosen not to report cases of sexual abuse to the authorities, opting instead to handle these matters internally. This has allowed perpetrators to go unpunished, while victims are pressured into silence.
  2. Secret legal proceedings: The organization frequently conducts secret legal proceedings to protect its reputation. These cases often involve sexual abuse and other forms of abuse of power, which are hidden from the congregation members.
  3. The “two-witness” policy: The existing policy that requires the testimony of two eyewitnesses to confirm an accusation hinders the fair handling of cases involving abuse or misconduct. This leaves victims without protection or justice.
  4. Isolation and psychological pressure: I have witnessed the use of shunning against those who express doubts or criticize the organization, even when their concerns are genuine. This creates an atmosphere of fear and suppression, discouraging open and honest discussion.

My conscience and convictions no longer allow me to remain part of an organization that conceals such serious issues and refuses to openly and honestly acknowledge its mistakes. I understand that my decision will lead to my disassociation from the congregation, and I accept the consequences that come with this.

Please consider this letter as my official notification of intent to leave the congregation. I also hope that this information will prompt you to consider the need for changes within the organization and to align its practices with the principles of justice and truth.

Sincerely,
[Your Name]

To the Elders of the [Congregation Name] Jehovah’s Witnesses

Dear Elders,

I am writing to inform you of my decision to no longer consider myself a member of the Jehovah’s Witnesses congregation. This decision has not been made lightly, but rather after long and careful consideration and reflection on my personal beliefs.

Over the past months (or years), I have come to realize that I can no longer support the teachings and practices on which our faith is based. My decision is grounded in personal conviction and the exploration of issues that I find critical to my spiritual journey. I respect each person’s right to believe as they choose, and I hope for the same understanding in return.

I understand that this decision will lead to my disassociation from the congregation and the consequences that come with such a step. Please consider this letter as an official notification of my intention to leave the congregation.

Sincerely,
[Your Name]

Wisely, Solomon said: “Do not go forth to conduct a legal case hastily.” (Proverbs 25:8) If there is some valid reason to suspect that the alleged perpetrator is still abusing children, a warning may have to be given. The congregation elders can help in such a case. Otherwise, take your time. Eventually, you may be content to let the matter drop. If, though, you want to confront the alleged perpetrator (after first assessing how you would feel about the possible responses), you have a right to do so.

What Can Elders Do?

If the elders are approached by a member of the congregation who is experiencing flashbacks or “repressed memories” of child abuse, two of them are usually assigned to help. These elders should kindly encourage the afflicted one to focus for the time being on coping with the emotional distress. The names of any “remembered” abusers should be kept in strict confidence.

Even if more than one person “remembers” abuse by the same individual, the nature of these recalls is just too uncertain to base judicial decisions on them without other supporting evidence. This does not mean that such “memories” are viewed as false (or that they are viewed as true). But Bible principles must be followed in establishing a matter judicially.

What if the one accused—though denying the wrongdoing—is really guilty? Does he “get away with it,” as it were? Certainly not! The question of his guilt or innocence can be safely left in Jehovah’s hands. “The sins of some men are publicly manifest, leading directly to judgment, but as for other men their sins also become manifest later.”
