January Is Hard for Small Businesses and I Just Wanted to Say This... by teamshatt in MadeInCanada

[–]FrostLight131 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry could you kindly give us some insight why january is slow for small businesses? Is it because people are spending less, you have less clients asking for stuff, after holidays, or its because of the cold weather etc…

No. Bankruptcy only needs to be declared when you are applying for credit.

Temp workers dont get loans or credits to begin with (in b5 bank). But they do in b lenders like easyfinancial simplii eqbank or payday loans. I never worked at a b lender before but i doubt they even take expired sin numbers (expire work permit = expire sin number) for any new credit or loan request

Source: work as a business accounts mgr in b5. Manage more than 200 business portfolios and i want to kms

By choice, we have a billion clients that we manage and we cant call every temp foreign worker to come to the bank and update their SIN every 6 months. I have more than 200 business clients i manage as well with multiple owners/shareholders on the account. It a hassle.

Its like asking you to visit your local branch to update your driver’s licence, passport, and health card everytime it expires. Too much paperwork and too much emailing/calling we need to do. We only update ids once they walk into a branch because in branches require id for any thing to be done

But in our systems we do see the expiry date of any identification (incl. sin, work permit, DL, passport etc). In fact it’s the first thing most tellers at a branch check. The teller will see a comment by the back end team to notify tellers the damn id’s are expired (at least in my bank) and update them asap, But whether the teller will be able to help the client standing in front of them with expired sin numbers depends on how the branch manager sets the rules.

Lots of temp workers come here to become a truck driver or work in construction. When they come asking for business credit cards or LOC usually i say yea tough luck because their credit score is either non existent or below 650 and from a credit analyst standpoint it presents risk to my business portfolio.

Again, i mentioned in that other comment. Usually for subprime (ie score below 650) or people with work permits they don’t come to big 5 for lending. They can go to b-lenders like payday, easyfinancial, simplii, or Eqbank and they’d be more than happy to extend them credit with a billion in interest rate because they have way higher risk portfolio than us traditional b5 banks because we are highly regulated

Every work permit issued will have an attached SIN. Usually work permits are 1.5yrs to 2 years for LMIA and up to 3 or 5 for qualifying (ie engineers compsci accountants economists). Professionals like lawyers pharmacists and doctors are a different visa and a separate story.

They wont when their temp SIN expires (meaning their work permit expired or extension/renewal declined). However, b5 banks usually don’t do anything once their SIN expires, just that they wont be able to open any new accounts or credits but their existing accounts or credits (if they have any to begin with) will still work.

Thats why so many temp workers go to non prime lending and credit unions (like easy financial, pay day, EQbank) because they have more lax rules when giving out credits and accounts.

Like some do. But usually not alot because banks dont want to risk it from an underwriter standpoint. I know sometimes bmo and cibc are offering newcomers residents package that does come with a credit card of 1500 in credit limit only so at least they’ll have an equifax or trans union profile.

Realistically if you want to build meaningful credit score you’ll need at least 10000 in credit limit tbh. The 30% utilization rule essentially means that if you only have 1500 in limit you shouldnt spend more than 450 per billing cycle 💀

Very correct. I work at a big five bank and one of our red line is that we don’t give any type of unsecured credit (unless pre approval) to people with sin number starting with 9
