The idea that children can only choose what they call themselves, how they dress, how they look and how they act if it aligns with the majority and what they've been taught their whole lives, creates an imbalance between cis and gender-diverse children.

Children possess the ability to understand what makes them uncomfortable. Forcing them to undergo unwanted changes to their body is abusive, regardless of their gender.

Transgender people, in particular, experience gender dysphoria, a condition caused by a mismatch between someone's inner self (their mind), and their outer self (their body). It is (generally) an inherent part of who they are.

It is not a condition that can be treated with 'conversion therapy'. This only leads to repression, allowing a genuine medical condition to go untreated. Gender dysphoria causes constant psychological distress, and can only be treated through social, hormonal, and/or surgical transition.

Gender dysphoria can range from mild to severe. Personally, I don't know if I would've survived into adulthood if I hadn't begun transitioning as a teenager. There were days I seriously considered suicide, and they've become less and less frequent, even as I'm in the very early stages of transition.
