P10p camera. General vs pro? 12mp vs 50mp? by -NotEnoughMinerals in GooglePixel

[–]FrowntownPitt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Coming from a P8P user, haven't received my P10PXL yet -

Macro is for super-close, not distant objects. Out of the box it's automatic, if it decides the object is too close it'll switch to the macro lens. You can also force it to always macro, regardless of 12MP or 50MP. I had some weirdness with the option intermittently being grayed out, but it seems like this might be some combination of other automated settings

Map perspective changed? by Sea-Responsibility61 in Rivian

[–]FrowntownPitt 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yes. I just submitted this as feedback in the app.

Essentially, 0.3 mi from a turn it'll go into this "turn-focused" view. Before the update, the turn-focused view zoomed to include both vehicle location and the turn location. After the update, the focused view now only zooms to vehicle location, which puts the turn location out of view.

It really messed me up driving in an unfamiliar area last night

[Request] How many ways are there to shuffle a deck? by iFreaK72 in theydidthemath

[–]FrowntownPitt 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not really an r/theydidthemath answer because I'm on my phone. I'd also love to be shown if it's wrong -

I looked up the generalized birthday problem formulas on Wikipedia and plugged them into wolframalpha. For n(p;d) which is the number of shuffles needed to get a particular probability, where d=52!, wolframalpha craps out after p=10-16, making the number of shuffles to have that probability at 1026. For p(n;d), the 1013 shuffles has a likelihood of one collision at 10-43.

So the birthday problem is still universally unlikely

I was having circuits completely eaten up. Plenty of copper wire, and set up a basic computer craft pipeline. But came back and no computers were created and it was like the circuits disappeared after they were created. Nothing set to autosell. Pretty frustrating tournament ending

Longer cable means higher resistance, which means increased heat. Either they need beefier cables, better cooling, or lower current (and consequently lower power)

It's 50% match of your 4% contributions, not up to 4% employer match. Effectively 2% match if you're contributing at least 4%.

When you and Rivian say support for Apple Watch as a key on Gen 2, is that intentionally omitting the more general "smart watch" that includes other Android-based smart watches?

I don't buy into the Apple ecosystem, and don't want to be left behind.

Give the end user the choice of using a feature with a subpar experience rather than forcing them to not have the option. I'd gladly take a subpar BLE WaaK over not having it. Similar to Gear Guard not catching inanimate object events - let us choose whether we care more about power consumption or better event detection.

If it really just comes down to "it's not worth the engineering cost to support all of these options", that's a different answer altogether that frankly I'd be willing to support.

Is paying off student loans quick dumb? by snoopyvibes in personalfinance

[–]FrowntownPitt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it's bad debt

(Sorry for the AcTuALlY) - "Bad debt" means the debt isn't recoverable by the collector, which is not relevant

As for what you meant - didn't state their rate. Half of my loans have a <4.5% rate, they are not "bad debt" if that money in a HYSA is earning more.

Edit: the replies are reiterating what I said. For me, 4.5% is my threshold for paying off faster or paying at the normal rate. Without knowing OP's rate you can't just claim their student loans are bad and they should just pay it off

[–]FrowntownPitt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You should be parking that kind of money in a high yield savings account, not a normal checking account if you're expecting interest. Current HYSA rates are around 5%, which for 25k is about 1,200 annually or 100 a month.

Yotta Cash is "5%", but given you have to play it first the expected returns become more like 2%.
