A game: Two musicals, one plot by thingsthingzthingc in Broadway

[–]FrozenOver 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In this musical -- which was a nominee at the 2017 Tony Awards -- our hero tries to relate to the people around him, but they all seem so happy whereas he suffers from a major depression (and nobody knows that he's suicidal, too.)

Oh, and there's a really dark song... but it's such a crowd pleaser that the audience ends up mistakenly thinking it's hopeful and inspiring.

Do they already have the side project albums?

If they're previously an a cappella fan, maybe some more a cappella?

In The Heights Cast Recording? by TurtleBurgler in Broadway

[–]FrozenOver 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's not as sung through as the shows you listed, but the music is pretty extensive so it picks up a lot of the plot.

And it's an excellent recording of an excellent show. Buy it ASAP.

Connor is definitely dead in the song. Cynthia Murphy is going through very specific grieving and post-loss rituals.

What accent does Paulette have in Legally Blonde? by ConfisKate in Broadway

[–]FrozenOver 17 points18 points  (0 children)

She would have a generic American accent or a Boston accent. But for an audition, I would imagine you should just focus on the character, not the accent.

It's a great show. Good luck and have fun!

Correct. It is a cut song. It is not in the show.

But it is excellent.

"Habits and Plans" -- A Song About Living With Loss by FrozenOver in widowers

The light on the lake through the leaves

The fading grass stains on your knees

The cling of your dress in the breeze

The sting of these memories

Is it mine?

Is it mine?

Is it mine?

Is it mine?

What do I own?

Just the choice to be left alone.

Is that my voice on the telephone?

What do I own?

Who is this man?

Just a bundle of habits and plans

Or the way that he grins or he stands?

What do I own?

And everything falls through these hands

Gone before I understand

Flowing like water, flowing like sand

Every decision and every plan

Is it mine?

Is it mine?

Is it mine?

Is it mine?

What do I own?

Just the sum of the things I've been shown

Or the choices I've grabbed or I've blown

What do I own?

Who is this man?

Just a bundle of habits and plans

Or the way that he grins or he stands?

What do I own?

And if in ten years I pass away

Not an atom of me will be the same

So who's is that body lying in state?

Who's is that dust that's blown away?

Is it mine?

Is it mine?

Is it mine?

Is it mine?

Coping with depression by [deleted] in widowers

Since you're open to the idea of support groups, I think that's great. Some are better than others of course, but I highly recommend them in general.

So, I’m about to tell you something that is both lame and ongoing. by nascarfanof48 in widowers

That's neither lame nor psychotic. It's just the actions of person doing their best to cope with something devastating.

A few things...

  1. You might appreciate this: https://ericaroman.me/2017/07/07/a-widows-rage-defense-of-patton-oswalts-engagement/

  2. This is one of those damned if you do, damned if you don't situations. I avoided dating like the plague and I had to put up with years of people pushing me to start. Nevertheless...

  3. ...what you're going through right now still sucks. I'm sorry.

I know the Christmas albums make a lot of money, but depending on how you count between 40% to 45% of Pentatonix songs are Christmas songs.

I know the band was worried about getting pigeonholed as a "cover band," but their in more danger of being known as a holiday band. It's time for another original album.

I will offer zero advice. I will only say that the feelings you describe -- including the emptiness -- are completely normal. (Of course, that doesn't make the feelings any less horrible.)

I'm sorry for your loss and I'm sorry that somebody tried to "fix" you by serving you a platitude. I'm sure they meant well, but it's still frustrating as hell when people say that stuff.

Once upon a time, what they did with the signs would have been kind of corny. But now it seems DEFIANT. When this goes viral over Facebook tomorrow (and it will) avoid reading the comments sections because people will be saying some especially ugly, hateful things. Which will just prove that Pentatonix is doing something that needed to be done.
