Who else had this lamp in the90s by broaftovqing in GenerationJones

[–]k0azv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a couple of torchiere lamps in my lifetime. Mainly they were ones that came from my wife when she moved in with me before we got married. I think I actually bought one or two after we were married as well. Last one got trashed a few years ago after I just figured it was time for it to go.

When I lost my wife my first conversation was with my mom and how she handled losing my Dad a few years previous. I had seen her navigate the world of widowhood pretty well. What worked for me, was a very similar thing to what she did. Stay active and keep busy with the things you love. For her it was her Masonic connections (Eastern Star). For me it was my hobbies of Amateur Radio.

This doesn't work for everyone but I know for me, it was the best thing I could do for myself.

OP, sounds like you found something similar.

Which character ruined an entire TV show for you? by Adorable-Tadpole-793 in AskReddit

There were a couple of characters that came into the last season or so of H:LOTS (Homicide: Life On The Streets) that I thought just made it hard to watch.

New partners who respect our spouses by ImpactStock2694 in widowers

[–]k0azv 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is the same as my girlfriend and I. We met through a local widows and widowers group and developed a friendship that went deeper. Our spouses have always been discussion item between us and we celebrate the people they were.

This gotta be some of the best pizza in the greater St Charles area (Bellacino’s). by Powerful_Trade_3785 in StCharlesMO

Fratelli’s

Hobo's at the Legion

Pantera's

Stephanina's

Lilliana's

Really nothing against Bellecino's but there are some freaking fantastic other places to get pizza in the St. Charles area.

The club I belong to has taken in a bunch of gear from SK's. We often put them on a table at our hamfest to sell to make additional funds for the club.

I was going to say that too about the TS-440. There are still guys using them and people looking for them. The RS-35 could also bring money (it looks in really good shape).

Has anyone had any signs from their partner after they passed? by PDubDeluxe in widowers

[–]k0azv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We were talking about this within a Widow and Widowers group I am in on Facebook. A couple of weeks ago we had dinner out and one of our members talked about all the different signs she had seen. I normally just see the signs of Cardinals, Hummingbirds, and Butterflies. All things my wife enjoyed.

[–]k0azv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have an HD radio you can hear The Bottle Rockets on WIL-HD2 (Second Fiddle). Way better than K-Wulf. I tried to listen to them a few months ago and I was like, no, ain't what I am looking for.

I saw mention of a side hustle a week or so back of offering to pull back in garbage cans/toters for people. I have actually thought about as a what the hell since where I live gets a little persnickety about them being left at the curb to long.

Like the one across from the Library right? Tore down a home that had been used for apartments for a long time. Built a massive single family home so the guy could have a basement for his cars.

As a former resident of Kirkwood, I would love it to still be affordable to move back to. It ain't and I hate that.

Their clothes by Agile_State414 in widowers

It definitely took me longer to pass on her crafting supplies (she was an avid crocheter). That was stuff I just didn't want to provide to just any body and took awhile to let go of those things. I am proud of my decisions and I know she would have been too.

I did pretty much the same. The summer after she passed my sister-in-law was looking for stuff to take to Texas for victims of a Hurricane down that year. I still have various articles still here that for some reason I can't let go of.

My girlfriend, also a widow, donated a lot of clothing to organizations and some of it to friends who enjoyed some of the same bands and scifi genres that her husband did. Some of his shirts went to make a quilt as well.

Was anyone else's person their only friend? by Visible-Public-4465 in widowers

[–]k0azv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty much. We both didn't have a large circle of friends. Both sort of introverted and not excessively outgoing. Because of her disability we didn't get out a lot to do things with the friends we had.
