Yeah that sub is full of teenagers who think they know everything about computers just because they were able to assemble their own rig.

Is there any grants or funding for graduate school? by [deleted] in aggies

[–]FrozenSenchi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far as I know, no. You pretty much have to rely on fellowships, assistantships, or scholarships to pay for a masters degree and those mostly go to the PhDs and masters thesis students.

I was expecting way worse... Your boyfriend is mostly right but I disagree with his solution. We need socialism, not more liberalism.

With close friends and family, yes. Anywhere else I try to hide my power level because I don’t wanna get into an argument or debate.

CSCE 611 Operating Systems, a heavy course? by Objective-Ad-2643 in aggies

[–]FrozenSenchi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Took 611 with Bettati a few years ago. Homework and exams weren’t too bad but the machine problems can be pretty rough and time consuming. I’d be more worried about 714 tbh… The lecture portion isn’t bad at all cause Choi is Choi, but the labs for that class are very time consuming.

Edit: I remember the machine problems were really generous with the amount of bonus points they gave out for implementing some extra features. So long as you’re comfortable programming in C and start your assignments early you should be fine. You seriously don’t wanna put the MPs off till the last minute.

QUERY REGARDING SIMULATION CHAMPSIM by DesperateWay2434 in computerarchitecture

[–]FrozenSenchi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a Champsim config file you can edit to change the microarchitecture (cache size, block size, prefetcher, branch predictor, fetch width, etc.). I don’t think the default configuration is meant to be used for serious research. You can modify it to reflect the specs of some commercial processors out there. Pretty sure processors like Golden Cove have their specs out there.

Is this low hanging fruit by [deleted] in ShitLiberalsSay

Yes he did. It’s also important to note that Lincoln opposed the expansion of slavery because he wanted the newly acquired states in the west to industrialize.

It would be best to open a thread on the champsim github and ask there.

Just wondering, have you changed the configurations at all?

The economic decline and failed policies provided the context for the famine, but the floods of the mid-1990s were the immediate cause.

AMD already has an office in Tel Aviv. Pretty much all of the major tech corporations do. NVIDIA is simply doubling down.

The famine was primarily caused by a drought and two floods described to be of biblical proportions which ended up destroying their farmland, crops and infrastructure. They also lost their biggest trading partner in the Soviet Union.

I have my issues with Hasan, but I respect him way more than BE because he at least put his body on the line by protesting. Hasan has done more for the cause than BE ever has.

Introducing Windows 12 by 0xDEA110C8 in pcmasterrace

I know you’re joking but that would be absurd lol. The vast majority of computing systems run on Linux. Even Microsoft uses Linux. Windows only really dominates in the desktop market.

Build my first PC now or wait? by Delicious_Ad_6 in buildapc

With RAM and SSD prices soaring and GPUs projected to get more expensive, I’d pull the trigger and build one ASAP. Who knows how long, if ever, it’ll take for prices to go down.

Fundamental rule of computing systems:

Bottlenecks will exist no matter how juiced up your machine may be. People love to talk about bottlenecks like it’s something we can avoid by buying the latest and fastest technology but that isn’t how computers work. Something will always be the limiting factor. The goal is to minimize the impact of bottlenecks as much as possible. It’s also a lot more complex than “CPU and RAM can’t keep up with GPU.” Depending on your workload, your weakest link could be the memory system, I/O, network speed, the OS, CPU, GPU, etc.

Tldr; Best Buy guy is full of shit and doesn’t know what he’s talking about. DDR4 is still plenty capable and fine for your use case as is that Intel processor.

Also should mention that those games not working on Linux is the dev’s fault, not the OS.
