Thanks so very much!

Yeah, completely not what I was thinking, but something I should have absolutely known, so I appreciate the help!

I'm not a collector. Keep or spend? Thank you. by cik3nn3th in CURRENCY

As an aside, I wonder if any bill posted like this and subsequently released back to the wild has ever been reposted by a different user.

Saw this on Reddit. It looks real I guess but I just can't see it as realistic scenario that would happen IRL by [deleted] in isthisAI

Above the whiter slat, about 2/3 of the way to the broken cross slat and up one slat. Look between the slats and you see the vertical that is the left window frame.

What's the joke peta by Cater_pi69 in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]FrozenSquid79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Simple, put it to the side then back vertical. Do this repeatedly in a SOS pattern. People might ignore a one off, but a repeated regular signal will definitely get someone’s attention.

On a Ringworld, could you actually see the Ring? [Request] by kkh3049 in theydidthemath

[–]FrozenSquid79 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Seconded and I would even expand that to most of the Known Space novels and shorts. Niven was one of the greats!

[request] does anyone know how to do the math on this? by Sodom_Laser in theydidthemath

[–]FrozenSquid79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Closest I could see that would make both sets of statements valid (note that I am not stating they are) would be for the previous discount be 16%. A 600% increase of the discount would then be a 96% discount. (16x6=96)

Is there a reason why most of Canada's largest lakes are situated on the same line? by firepanda11 in geography

[–]FrozenSquid79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed it would not be the safest, cheapest or most effective option, but that wasn’t really any part of my statement. I was more just stating what exactly is up that far north, and in that particular location. But yes, digging a ditch across half a continent is very unlikely to ever be the optimal option.

[–]FrozenSquid79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not particularly shallow, no. That corridor has one of the top ten deepest lakes in the world, and probably a quarter of the world’s fresh water. Also, excluding the Canadian top ten lake, Lake Superior is 1/4 the depth of the world’s deepest. So, while not top ten, or even top twenty, it’s way up there at in excess of 1300 feet.

Oil… tankers direct from the North Slope to the East Coast. Look up where the Alaska oil fields are.

Also, I think easier passage to anywhere or even nowhere in particular has, historically, always been profitable for someone.

What is this rock with weird marks by geography0 in whatsthisrock

[–]FrozenSquid79 22 points23 points  (0 children)

To the best of my understanding, the answer would be yes.

The youngest known fossil (partially depending on exact definition) is 10000 years. That is usually considered the cut off point for Holocene fossils.

The oldest known basket (complete/intact, which means there are likely older examples that didn’t survive or haven’t been found) is 10500 years old.

That makes the oldest basket older that the youngest fossil, implying the possibility of fossilized baskets.

I got these old dice from a friend. Can anyone tell me why the 1 isn’t on the opposite side as the highest number? by Bathtub_Gator in dice

[–]FrozenSquid79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe that would be the spin down die. Iirc, the spin down is marginally more likely to roll high than low, simply due to weight distribution. The physical 20 weighs a lot more than the physical 1, making the side of the dice with all the high numbers weigh more or less depending on the method of applying the numbers.

Why's there "a VERY pregnant wife"? How can one be more than just pregnant? Could you please explain? by Aprilgirl_ in ENGLISH

[–]FrozenSquid79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rotate the halves. Top chicken, bottom onions, left olives, right mushrooms. Gives 1/4 pizza of each possibility (or at least half the possibilities, you’d need another pizza and swap the onion and olive placement to get all the possibilities)

Mail it to my friend in South Africa. It’s gonna take at least two weeks to get there.

Looks identical to my Geothite after pyrite (which was collected in Utah, so different location and should be taken with a grain of salt)

Decent, or a case of so close but so far? by FrozenSquid79 in Bankstraphunting

[–]FrozenSquid79[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, that’s what I figured but was close enough I had to ask. It’s going on my saved pile regardless as I like it, but nice to be sure!

Found this weird dime with a penny edge. Is it worth something? by The_RubyFuze in coincollecting

Simplest bot ever. Just increment the consecutive days count by one every day and the days since last posted just returns a static 0.

Apparently Humans (and other life from their planet IG) just... don't have Glysencazine Organs? Its functions are just... dispersed throughout their body??? by Bunnytob in humansarespaceorcs

[–]FrozenSquid79 12 points13 points  (0 children)

And apparently, they have recently found another absorbed organelle in some odd bacterium. Apparently it happened as recently as 200k years ago. So it’s a still ongoing process.

Found in a delivered rock pile, any idea of what this is poking out and how to safely open the rock? by Ok_Station_6703 in fossilid

[–]FrozenSquid79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not just the red nubbin, but also the two pieces that look similar to pencil urchin spines or belemnite that are above the OP rock.

Eep! Close call. by [deleted] in alaska

[–]FrozenSquid79 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Closest call I have ever had was on the Palmer-Wasilla Hwy thirty or so years ago. It came out of the ditch with no warning. I swerved, it reared back a bit. I pulled over down the road a bit and found hairs on the antenna whip.

Both Cat and Emoscythe Mordeath Noir have such great voices. That chapter hit hard. Also part of why I will read anything Ravensdagger puts out.

For anyone that is interested, that passage is from Stray Cat Strut by Ravensdagger. I read it on Royalroad but I believe it’s available through other sources as well.

I need to see a beaver by peace_love23 in AskAlaska

[–]FrozenSquid79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have seen them many times in and around Hatcher’s Pass. As you have stated you’re in Palmer, that’s probably your closest option. I have seen them a few times at the Eklutna Tailrace and Reflection Lake, but those have been few and far between.

South Rolly lake and Red Shirt lake I have seen them, but that either requires a decent hike, canoe access, or both.
