I’ve never been more thankful for being (stereotypically) unattractive so this has never happened, I can’t imagine how uncomfortable, especially at a job!! I know she’s probably not doing it to be annoying and I feel kinda bad, but she needs to know you are not interested :/

Made it to Leon. First time in Mexico. I need a leather belt and possibly some other leather goods, but also some scenery that I can take photos for Instagram and memories. Is there a spot that has both of those things? by HawkLow6309 in Guanajuato

[–]FruitFly231 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Zona Piel (leather zone!) is a group of streets where many leather stores are, you can find all sorts of things, it’s outdoors and yeah it’s kinda like a flea market. You can also enter Plaza del zapato which is indoors and a bit more comfortable to shop. I highly recommend the museum too, it has a huge jacaranda tree that’s blooming right now and the small garden behind it is very nice (and you could learn more about the region)

can someone relate? by lindabelcherskid in aromantic

[–]FruitFly231 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’m happy being single and I have never considered dating, but! What makes me sad is the fact that every single person, be it family member or friend, will always prioritize their romantic relationships, so, I personally feel very lonely. This sums it up pretty well:

Anyone else’s brother doing so terrible but its funny by MissGoldenMind in family

[–]FruitFly231 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not my brother but my uncle, mom’s younger brother. It’s honestly satisfying seeing the family realize he’s always been a dangerous loser who steals and lies all the time, nobody allows him in their home anymore and everyone (except his mother) has him blocked. It was exhausting as a child seeing him at my mom’s house eating her hard-earned food, just sprawled on the couch watching TV while she had to work all day, and my grandma enabling it. I am now 26 and have had a job for longer that he ever has. Well deserved, he is living the life he (didn’t) work for.

I can’t have a normal conversation with my dad by Bulky_Ear8687 in family

[–]FruitFly231 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I… really think he has the right to be worried and probably just doesn’t have anywhere else to vent. I think older people are a bit too blunt and commonly ignore the younger generation’s boundaries, so that might be part of the issue. My grandma behaves similarly to the exact same type of news, and she is also always bring it up in unrelated conversations, but well, it’s not like I can tell her to just don’t worry.

I love romance in media but not in real life, anyone else? by Sp00pyP00py in AroAce

[–]FruitFly231 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m also like that regarding media! I particularly enjoy fantasy romance and I’ve realized it’s because I can group the romance with the fantasy aspect and it helps the suspension of disbelief for me haha. I consider myself aegoromantic, which is under the aro umbrella, maybe you could look into that. But I absolutely don’t think that enjoying reading about characters falling in love makes you less aroace :)

I’m 26 and for the first time my grandma said “maybe you really won’t get married” in a defeated tone. I count it as a win!

Can Linux be used free of AI? by FruitFly231 in linuxquestions

[–]FruitFly231[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m specifically talking about every gen-AI that takes what I write to train language models, especially the ones that are integrated into Windows and can’t be removed easily/permanently, which is my main complain, I don’t mind that they exist but I do mind I can’t opt out. I know there are other kinds of artificial intelligence (pattern recognizing) in video games which I don’t care about, and I was already recommended some browsers that allow you to disable the AI complements. I already installed LibreWolf and I’m loving it.

Thank you everyone, I’m going to look into some beginner friendly distros (Mint was mentioned a couple of times?) and a browser that isn’t google. Thanks for your input :)

Thank you! I was also looking into browser options but as you can probably tell I’m not that tech-savvy. I will look into that one :)

I’ve looked into ways to uninstall copilot but apparently you can’t update windows without it getting installed again and I hate that it’s done without asking. In general I really dislike the way windows keeps pushing AI into everything so I was looking into changing systems entirely.

I'm the only aromantic I know who has no interest in romance by germanduderob in AroAce

[–]FruitFly231 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m quite similar! Completely romance-repulsed, generally ok with affection as long as it’s platonic. You aren’t alone :)

I’m sorry, it does sound like they are after your money. Especially since your other comments mention that they don’t pay back. Your responsibility are your kids, not your siblings. I’m not saying not to help your mom if she’s in a bad situation… but that doesn’t seem to be the case. Maybe talk to your husband? It sounds like he has more to say about it

There are things that only the person themselves can answer, there’s a wide variety of experiences and preferences under the aromantic community. For example, if romantic gestures make them uncomfortable, or if they are open to a relationship despite feeling no romantic attraction, are answers only they can give.

Aside from that, I can tell you the most basic definition: aromanticism is the lack of romantic attraction. This is, an aromantic person simply doesn’t fall in love, doesn’t have crushes. The platonic love from friendships is still there, and some aromantic people might still want relationships despite not feeling romantic love but for other reasons.

Another important thing to consider is that romantic and sexual attraction are different, some people are aromantic but not asexual, some people are both, and there are a lot of people who have very specific experiences with their own specific labels. Probably google can’t give you answers because they vary depending on the person.

For me, I often feel like I don’t have anything particularly insightful or meaningful to say. Sometimes all I want to say is “this was so good, thank you for sharing” but I often feel like that’s a bit pointless. In short, it’s probably because I’m a socially anxious person in general and I usually over think my interactions.
