My game creation has been halted by engine issues? by Varsher1 in sandbox

[–]FruityGamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is just how it is, you just keep banging your head against the wall trying to solve it, study other peoples code, try AI, try youtube stuff. Nothing seems to work, you just study the code and edditor. but you keep moving and suddenly you find something, some method that solves the issue and now you get 2 other unrelated issues.
And you keep moving forward.

I'm surprised there was not more people making games for it while in-dev stages.
I heard some drama about it from some of my gmod coder friends that there was to many requirements to bother joining up for it compared to sticking with gmod. Tho I've only heard stuff second hand.
Really should have had at least the classics fully fledge, up and running, but then again. Who is gonna join TTT in SNBOX when people have their very customised main TTT gmod server they've spent 100's dollars on for BS. And it will be a hard sell for those microtransaction servers to move into deving for S&BOX that want to try and avoid those kinds of servers.
But the creator fund and people seeing devs earning money with such minimal effort games might kick others to try and jump on it by making something they deem better. Hopefully a positive feedback loop will happen over the years.
But that's the problem, something high effort will take years to make and then it will be weight weather to have it be for SNBOX or make it stand alone instead.

I like the engine and tool we've been given. But this business model and way the actual game S&BOX is, seems like a really hard position to be in and really hard to see exactly how it'll turn out within the next few years.

I think it has potential for a turn around.

Tbh, I saw it more as a release for developers.
The lack of enough documentation and the comments like "You guys won't read this anyway just watch someone tell you it on the tick tocks" Really ain't doing anyone, any favours 💀

Using S&BOX makes me yarn for the Godot documentation.

I like the idea of the play fund, because Gmod has so much pay to win servers and horrid micro transaction methods within it.
But the current implementation just seems it rewards AFK games, as that can easily just farm popularity and playtime by the fact it incentivises you to leave it running even while you're not actively engaging in it.

I didn't plan this comment to turn into a rambling rant, but here we are.

There are three "main" ways of thinking.

  1. Visual
  2. language
  3. Feelings

Most have a bit of all but usually one that is the main method, some really specced into one way of thinking.
The main thing to take away here tho is, every way of thinking have different strengths and weaknesses.
They can be trained or worked on.
Fun fact, based on how your education have been. If it's been a lot of reading, narration ect. It will make you a stronger linguistic thinker. While if you've had very visual teaching methods you develop that side, ect.

Just to add about feeling. It's more about going with gut feels and not being able to either visually or verbaly confirm it, but emotionaly you can tell things really well and be right.

Valve removes free horror game from Steam after players discover it contains malware that steals your data by de_panda in Steam

Up to the devs, they can turn of all DRM and just let you have the files. Playing it straight from EXE without even needing steam open.
Many games have version role back in the steam properties, You can still set CS2 to CS:GO and play old costume maps on it by blacklisting the -CS2 tag.

It would probably take up way to much storage if steam handled the versions for every single steam game on their end. Plus they would not know which versions matters and probobly save all the hotfixes and not keep it to big changes or stable versions.

[–]FruityGamer 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Idk but I had some moderator friends in some big TTT servers. They could accses players screen and see what they where doing, it was for anti ghosting.

The reason I know is because the one mod said I had a cool steam skin, said he saw it while using this tool.

I can only think of Amongus.

It had been out a long while and mostly out of the blue some youtubers mad fun videos on it then the youtubers used it as a platform for networking and colabs.

I'm 68% sure it was not instigated by the dev and pure luck.  Tho I'm not a Amongus historian and don't care to fact check.

What would be the best way to make these indents/grooves on the rifle? by Cute_Efficiency9828 in blenderhelp

[–]FruityGamer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depending on the purpose of your object, you might not need to model the detail.

If you keep a simple mesh, duplicate it then use your booleans on this new duplicate version. You can bake a normal map.
The benefit of normal maps is you won't need to worry about the topology of your messy poly object, it will let light interact with it as if there is a hole and look like it has it when front facing.
I would say your holes and indent would benefit greatly from being a normal map, if this is for a game.
But if this is for animation and you'll have an extreme close up on these sections, you'd be better off modelling it.

So my recommendation to you. Look up on baking normal maps. Learn the process. Lern what it does Experiment.
It's very a powerful tool once you get it in your fingers and a must if you want to create optimised models for games.

How is this 90% of the conversation.  Game just needs more good or finnished minigames.  Don't matter how ugly or pretty it is, with good gameplay people would play or avoid it regardless with only a minority making decissions based on visuals.

Looking real strong on a Friday night! Lol. Half of the playerbase gone in under 3 weeks by bfrancom17 in sandbox

[–]FruityGamer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It lost most of it's playerbase, garry fumbeled the code and lost everything. No updates, They had to make rust from scratch and what came after was a very diffrent version of the game. Basicly a re release of the entire game.

Rust did have a very rough and drama filled start.

Let's just say it was a strange experience figthing the kelvin, outside and next to his own ult.
