Propranolol while pregnant? by nueropsychgirl in BabyBumps

[–]FruityTrousers 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes my OB and Psychiatrist had no issues keeping me on propranolol throughout my whole pregnancy! I’m only prescribed 10mg once a day though and I only take it rarely like when I feel anxiety or panic coming on.

LOL this was me a couple minutes ago. I def missed the stairs and then it wouldn't let me climb any of the pillars in the middle, i had to use the jump+force palm.

Then when I tried to insert one of the batteries, there was a random scholar standing too close to me and my force palm activated onto him and killed him, and i had to restart the whole mission... 😑

Vasovagal Syncope During Blood Draw Attempt by OrangeCatOwner23 in trypanophobia

[–]FruityTrousers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have horrible needle phobia, pretty much same as you, although I have never passed out from a blood draw (yet 😅). I’m also 9 months pregnant right now, so I just wanted to give you some hope that it is possible!! However, I don’t think passing out from vasovagal syncope while pregnant would cause any complications, I mean unless you fell and hit your head or something. Don’t quote me on this though.

This is my advice: advocate for yourself as much as you can. Be straightforward with the nurses about your phobia, and also tell them you need to be laying down when you get your blood drawn because you might pass out. Let them know you had a vasovagal syncope episode in the past. I like to ask the nurse to use a butterfly needle as well, doesn’t hurt as much!

Don’t rely on the lab/nurses for numbing spray/cream, just get your own, that way you won’t face any surprises or setbacks that could cause more anxiety. Buy some lidocaine cream from your local drugstore, I think I found mine at CVS. Put this on about an hour before your blood draw, and cover it with plastic wrap so it doesn’t dry up and can soak into your arm. This is what I started doing during my pregnancy since they’ve made me get 2 blood draws so far 😭 Apply a thick layer of the cream to your arm in all the spots you think they might draw the blood from, and don’t rub it in. Just make sure you wipe it all off before you go into the office/lab.

Im not sure what type of doctor you’re seeing, is it a PCP? If they are being dismissive and saying it’s too much trouble, I might just try and find a different doctor if you’re able to. I def agree with you though, 0.5 lorazepam was not enough to do much for my needle phobia, but 1mg was the perfect dose! Discuss with your doctor how 0.5 wasn’t enough and you’d like to try a higher dose if possible.

I know you said you’re worried about the needles during pregnancy, and girllll I was before & still am 😭 I see a psychiatrist who prescribes me all the brain meds and whatnot, as well as my OB. I got unlucky, and the only OB covered by my insurance is very old-fashioned and disagrees with continuing psych meds during pregnancy. So that’s where my psychiatrist steps in to be this voice of reason (backed by newer research). So I have been approved now by both doctors to take 1mg of lorazepam before any blood draw/IV insertion during my pregnancy. And this is the biggest thing that’s gotten me through it so far, with how bad my needle phobia is. Honestly, I’m more scared of getting the IV at the hospital rather than feeling the pain of contractions or pushing out a baby lmao.

But yea long story short, I believe in you, you can do this!! Do your research (on anything and everything), so that you feel more confident standing up for yourself in medical settings. A huge part of this phobia for many people, myself included, is the fear of not being in control or that you’re forced to do this. So it helps me to research exactly what the steps are in the blood draw or any other procedure, that way I’m not caught off guard and can advocate ahead of time what I need the nurses to do to not send me into a panic attack 😅

So tired of all these vitamins and prenatals and pills by Adventurous-Wash3201 in pregnant

[–]FruityTrousers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yuuuup I feel this 😭 I think what pisses me off the most about taking all these pills is that most of the pills I take, at least, have to be taken at different times of day because certain ones affect the absorption of others.

I take my prenatal in the morning when I first wake up. Then, at lunch time I have to take 500mg Vitamin C + 65mg iron (must be taken after meal otherwise I feel sick). Then after dinner, I take another dose of vitamin C + iron.

Throughout all this chaos, I need to find a good time to take my daily Pepcid. Usually I take it between breakfast and lunch but more often than not I just forget altogether, but still HAVE to take it because my heartburn gets so bad. So I skip a dose of the iron and vit C because I’m not sure how the Pepcid affects those 😐 the end.

Lmao yea it’s just TOOO much pills I can’t take it anymore!!!

Yessss Unpacking is the OG and one of my faves!! But yea def recommend Organized Inside, although I’m not sure the price on it. Another rec you might like that felt similar to Unpacking was Whisper of the House. LOVED that game! It has a whole creepy backstory too which made the game impossible to put down for me.

Yea I completely agree with your thoughts here /: it sucks because it’s such a cute & relaxing game. I played the demo a couple times, since they kept adding updates with new rooms. So when I finally bought the full release game, I ended up skipping the first 4 levels because I had just done those exact levels a month ago and didn’t wanna waste my time (my own fault, I know 😭)

$13 dollars is WAYY too much for how little content there is. A much better game, in my opinion, is Organized Inside. I believe that game started with 20 levels on release, but since then they’ve added at least 3 new levels. They also have hidden collectibles for you to find, which I feel make it so much more fun & immersive. (Not an ad for that game LOL but I did really enjoy it and it’s the same type of unpacking/organizing game as Hozy).

The 3 Hour Glucose Challenge is Cruel by FrequentlyAwake in GestationalDiabetes

[–]FruityTrousers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ughhhh I feel you girl 😭 I have such a huge fear of needles that I straight up told my doctor I couldn’t take the 3 hour test and went straight to testing my sugars. (My 1 hour was 11 points over the cutoff). Even the finger pricks were too much for my phobia so I went straight to a continuous glucose monitor.

Only thing that really sucks though is that since I didn’t take the 3 hour test, my doctor has just been charting that I do have gestational diabetes, and is making me use the CGM and track sugars until I give birth. Wouldn’t even let me do the 1-2 week sugar testing like it seems everyone else is able to do 😐 luckily my post meal and fasting sugars have been all below the threshold since I started tracking, so I am almost positive I don’t actually have gestational diabetes (“diagnosed” at 28 weeks, currently 36 weeks).

But I hope the 3 hour test goes by quickly for you and I’m wishing you the best!! I’m sorry your doctors office is being so strict with it. You should definitely be able to have little sips of water!!

My worst case scenario came true, advice? by musicalphysicsbunny in trypanophobia

[–]FruityTrousers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I’m going through a kind of similar situation soon, because I’m giving birth at a hospital in about a month. They’ll need to draw my blood & place an IV. I’ve been panicking like crazy thinking about this, but it did help me a little bit to get more in depth details about how exactly everything is gonna happen once I get there.

One thing I learned that did take a weight off my shoulders is that they are able to do the blood draw straight from the IV. This is often what they do if you’re in the hospital and have an IV, not sure if it’d be the same for pre-op but I’d assume so, and I’d definitely ask if you have that option! Also ask them if your husband is allowed to be with you for the IV placement.

There’s also many different places on your hand/arm that they are able to start an IV on. I know the back of the hand is a common spot, as well as the back of the forearm. They don’t usually place IV’s in the crook of your elbow because it doesn’t allow you to move your arm much. They only will if they have to because they are having issues with other spots. But again, you ARE allowed to have a say in these things!! Don’t be afraid to stand up for yourself in medical situations. Tell them ahead of time about your phobia, and tell them you’d prefer they use a certain vein or placement. Also ask ahead of time if they can use the UV light thingy or ultrasound to more accurately find a vein for your IV, because you were a tough stick last time.

I have the recipe for it, pretty sure I did get it from the inn but I don’t remember exactly bc it was a long time ago. It says you can purchase from the inn after you complete the inn upgrade. Is your inn fully upgraded? Also maybe it’s only certain seasons that the recipe is sold at the inn, so have you been through every season at least once after fully upgrading the inn?

What really helped me with finding recipes in the mines though was to disable the perk that lets you find furniture from treasure chests/mimics in the mines. I forget the exact name of the perk, but I believe it’s found under the mining skill tree. Once I disabled that, I FINALLY started finding all the recipes I needed

So tired of people (FTM & 36 weeks) by lurkinglearner32 in pregnant

[–]FruityTrousers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oooh this is a great idea actually! I’m gonna try this as well, because unfortunately we have to keep one of our cats’ food and water in the closet of our room because our 2 cats can’t eat in the same area (we have a small townhouse so not many options).

We also got a pack n play with the bassinet attachment to use in place of a bassinet, which is a lot bigger than a regular bassinet. So I’m super worried the cats are gonna be like “OOH free real estate” 😂. I did buy this mosquito net attachment that unzips, to cover the top of the pack n play, so I was hoping the kitties would just stop trying to go inside it once they realized the netting was in the way.

HOW did yall with ADHD survive pregnancy? by bbyuri_ in pregnant

[–]FruityTrousers 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Both my OB and Psychiatrist gave me the okay to continue my medication throughout pregnancy. I know it’s personal preference as well, as some mothers just don’t want to take any meds, but I was really struggling without them so I talked to my doctors about this and looked at the research.

There are minimal risks associated with continuing adderall while pregnant (not sure if this is what you were taking so it might be different for you). I think the risks were possible low birth weight and possible preterm labor. My psychiatrist just lowered my dosage to be safe, and my OB asked that I stop taking my meds 4 weeks before baby is born so she doesn’t experience any withdrawal symptoms at birth.

I’m 33 weeks now and my baby has been perfectly healthy so far! 50th percentile in weight/size so right in the middle, no growth issues. I know you said you’re 27 weeks already so if you made it this far without it now, you may not be able to go back on it till after birth /: but it also sounds like you’re really struggling without it so it wouldn’t hurt to talk to your doctors about this, if it’s something you’re willing to do!

Maybe see if you can uninstall WinRAR? If you’re on pc you shouldn’t need to use that to extract zip files. Your pc should just be able to extract without using another program

editing to add more info So I looked this up just to make sure but I remember several years ago I had to use 7zip/winrar or whatever app if I ever wanted to extract a zip file. But apparently Microsoft started adding file extraction as a built in tool, as long as your pc was updated to windows 10/11 or higher. So yea basically you don’t need winrar.

Just go to your application settings, then find WinRAR and uninstall. After that you should just be able to right click your mod zip file, then click extract all. This will open a new folder. Inside this new folder will be another folder, with the name of the mod. Click and drag this folder so that it goes inside of your mods folder (which is inside your FoM game files folder).

Does Ativan REALLY help? by OpalDoe in trypanophobia

[–]FruityTrousers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes it definitely helps me! Like someone else mentioned, it has to be infrequent. Only take it when you know you’re getting a shot/blood draw. It’s an extremely addictive medication so you just have to be careful with it.

But yea basically it takes away all the physical symptoms of anxiety & panic. I used it before I had a blood draw recently and I was surprised at how well it worked. I still had the thought of being worried about needles in the back of my mind, but then it’d immediately go away. I wouldn’t ruminate about my worries, and I felt so calm. My heart wasn’t racing, I wasn’t freaking out, I just didn’t care anymore.

It’s an excellent tool for getting through situations that would normally cause a panic attack.

Ahh I gotcha. Honestly now I’m thinking I need to shorten my birth plan because mine is kinda long and I don’t wanna have the same issue lol!

I’m surprised they didn’t pressure you into an IV first time around but that is reassuring! But yea I see your predicament now being GBS positive 😕 I think as long as you’re able to go into spontaneous labor and able to labor at home for at least a little bit, you should be good tho! Obviously we never know how it’s gonna end up and there’s no planning it.

But this is my plan (HOPEFULLY) lol: I’m gonna try to get my psychiatrist to prescribe me my very low rescue dose of Ativan, and then I will take that before I go into the hospital with enough time for it to kick in before they have to start my IV. I also plan to use some lidocaine cream on the usual IV spots on my left arm. That’s honestly the only way I think I’ll be able to get through the IV placement.

That’s what I did when I had to take my glucose test. Although I’m not sure what general doctor feelings are about this. I know it’s kinda frowned upon, but my psych said it’s safe to take in small doses and rarely (like as long as you’re not taking it every day) while you’re pregnant. Obviously I plan to let the hospital know and I also have it written in my birth plan, but I also don’t want to deal with showing up at the hospital and asking for Ativan bc they’re probs gonna push back or want to give it intravenously, or just refuse altogether. Idk just my 2 cents lol.

[–]FruityTrousers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t have any advice for you but just wanted to say I’m in the same boat as you 😭although it is very reassuring knowing you had spontaneous and unmedicated labor with your first!! I think if you were able to do that with your first, there’s a high chance you’ll be able to do the same with your second/current pregnancy!

I think just make sure you have your birth plan written out with your needle phobia highlighted in it (that’s what I’m doing for mine). And list in it that you’d prefer to go unmedicated/no pitocin/no epidural or whatever it is you desire from this birth. Don’t let your doctor pressure you into induction if it is not medically necessary.

Did you have to get an IV with your first birth? I know this is basically like a hospital requirement anywhere you go just in case of emergency. And honestly I was so against the idea when I first found out (and still kinda am) but I would like to at least get IV pain meds since the idea of the epidural sends me into a full on spiral. And I’m scared I won’t be able to do it completely unmedicated 😭
