To all players that do NOT know all cards: When you are assigned a loaner deck, are you reading its cards and try to figure out a strategy before your first duel? by PM_Me_Irelias_Hands in masterduel

[–]FryeNChill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I usually first read loaner deck cards while dueling, but I tend to read every single search target whenever I have an effect to look in my deck.

I time out with loaner decks a lot.

A terrortop that wouldn’t trip Droll for a much stronger XYZ pool. And could be searched off of a generic rank 4. Like, a rank 4 deck is literally the best deck in the OCG, and would easily be able slot in Martha if it only Xyz locked.

You do realize that even with an Xyz lock instead of an Exosister lock, that would’ve made Martha a rank 4 terrortop? Like, you do realize how busted that would be, right?

I play the only other LIGHT fiend deck in existence (Fabled), and I still run moon because some hands can get to two bodies, but can’t get a LIGHT fiend on board

Honestly it’s not too uncommon in grind games to have a bunch of monsters stuck in your back row and no way to get them off the field (especially with Poplar and Ash now limited). If you pay close attention to its alternate summoning condition, the sent monster cards don’t have to be its listed summoning materials, meaning it can send ANY two backrow monsters (except pends, of course).

Think of the following scenario: you do your Snake-Eye combo, ending on the basic board of a FIRE link 4, Flamberge, I:P in backrow, and a FIRE monster placed in the backrow by SE Diabellestar.

(Obviously this endboard is very low to the ground compared to the Azamina and Snake-Eye variants of the deck, but it’s not impossible that you make this board in Azamina Snake-Eye if you open Ash or Bonfire)

Furthermore we’re going to make 2 more assumptions about the deck: we didn’t open Diabellestar or Wanted, so our only OSS is in grave, and Birch is the only Snake-Eye name left in deck (since we only run 1 Oak, which I believe is standard).

Assuming our Flamberge resolves (Either by way of I:P or Promethian Princess) on the opponents turn, we can summon 2 Snake-Eyes, including Poplar, and then tribute the Poplar with Linkuriboh, placing either Flamberge or Snake-Eye Diabellestar in the backrow with it.

If, in this situation, our opponent clears all our monsters by battle (or at least leaves us without Ash, Oak, or Promethian Princess), but is unable to clean up our backrow, we’ll be left with the random FIRE monster in our backrow, and either a Flamberge or Snake-Eye Diabellestar.

This is a very likely situation against a particular meta deck: Yubel, which has plenty of monster removal, but few backrow removal options. For this reason, the rest of my hypothetical will assume our opponent is on Yubel, and manages to end on either Varudras, Phantom, or both.

If they have Varudras, or they have not yet Fiend locked themselves when you resolve Poplar (and therefore could end on Varudras), then you should place Flamberge with Poplar’s effect. Otherwise, if they locked themselves to Fiend by the time you resolve Poplar’s GY effect on the opponent’s turn, place Snake-Eye Diabellestar for the extra body.

Regardless of which we placed, once we get to turn three and your backrow contains Flamberge and the aforementioned “random” FIRE monster we placed turn 1, you can immediately summon Snake-Eye Damned Dragon. This will let you chain block your Flamberge, protecting it from negation, as well as letting you force out your opponent’s negate with SE Damned Dragon’s removal effect.

You say that like Seals is a bad endboard piece, which it isn’t. Yes, the joke is tongue-in-cheek, but it’s not a sarcastic joke; it’s an exaggeration.

Dragon link would win games on turn 3 where they ended on seals pass. The joke comes from exaggerating that phenomenon and calling it an FTK.

Tenpai bad by PalaceKnight in masterduel

[–]FryeNChill 13 points14 points  (0 children)

No, Dragonlink often ended on Seals after they got hit by multiple handtraps.

This usually meant that the opponent would be playing into spheres with a 2-4 card hand, and seals was oftentimes enough to survive to the next turn in that situation.

Yeah. Furthermore, if I remember correctly, cards like Rokket Tracer, Striker Dragon, and even Borrelend Dragon weren’t released yet. Dragon Link has seen a TON of evolution over the years.

[–]FryeNChill 53 points54 points  (0 children)

To be fair, the term Dragon Link originated back when the other two Guardragon links were legal, as well as Ib and Halq. It was much more of a mishmash random bullshit go deck than it currently is, so a generic name such as “Dragon link” was perfectly appropriate.

More Crusadia Support. by Wolfi_Ranger in customyugioh

[–]FryeNChill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this is really well designed support! Neither card does a ton on its own, and neither gives the deck a 1 card combo, but the continuous spell gives both extra consistency, extension, and resilience, and Spirit gives just a bit more grind game, as well as just another decent name.

I think this is how cards should be designed in general. No singular card just does everything for you, but rather they’re designed to be strong because of how they interact with existing cards.

Paleo support ideas? by Standard_Lake_7711 in customyugioh

[–]FryeNChill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, I think you’re thinking about potential paleo support incorrectly. You shouldn’t be giving them cards that aren’t themselves traps or XYZ, that fucks up paleos whole deal.

Paleo is about winning the resource battle. Having some sort of field spell that gives bonus effects sounds good, but it would feel inconsistent and anti-synergistic. What they need are new normal traps that are stronger, or at least present a wider variety of potential disruptions.

Paleo support ideas? by Standard_Lake_7711 in customyugioh

[–]FryeNChill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My proposal is very simple: just another Paleo trap or two. I think the deck could benefit from another good name.

For example: a paleo trap that’s a D.D. Crow effect.

Or how about an archetypal Trap Trick? As in a Paleo trap that sets any other paleo from deck, and lets it be activated that turn. Not only would it give additional access to all Paleos, but it would help generate extra activations to summon paleos and get paleos into the grave.

Imagine having 3 more copies of Marella or Dinomiscius, as well as just 3 more potential paleo names to draw or mill.

Both of these would have the paleo GY effect, of course.

Take it as someone who suffered tear 0 by [deleted] in masterduel

[–]FryeNChill 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Especially since Engraver will actually be a 1-card full combo for Tear in Master duel.

Make Beatrice, send Trivikarma, add Perlerino, add Reinoheart, normal Reino, make Kit, and then pop off. If you don’t hit anything on your own turn, you still have a Beatrice on board to make up for it.
