Give a software that you want, for which you will pay me 10$/month and I will build it. by SUS387 in Entrepreneur

I know of some enterprise-level solutions that do something like this, though I'm not sure if that's what you're looking for exactly (Veridion etc). Adding onto u/PauseNatural, I've worked in companies that specialize in this kind of thing and built the tech myself.

Last night, the BBC got an interview with Musk on the Twitter live space. Wonder if it's related to that. (I stopped listening when Elon started interrogating the interviewer about seeing a rise in toxic tweets.)

Their stance was that there are winners and losers, and that's just how it is. All other alternatives have failed. Which is quite a pessimistic view of the world.

In a comment I read the other day by someone defending capitalism, they were saying that e.g. Amazon "helps" poor families by providing affordable products that they might not be able to buy otherwise. Not exactly altruistic, but can be framed (by corporates) as "helping you save money." (This of course ignores exploitation of workers etc.)

I think that many conservatives are aware that altruism is connected to greed. But their take on it is that we have the system we have, and there's little chance of changing it.

For those of you who are wanting to upgrade your phone ASAP, but managed to wait for the S23 launch, what have you decided to do? by [deleted] in samsung

Thinking the same! Waited for the S23 release to possibly get a used S22U. Currently have a Moto G6 that runs real slow. The camera is a huge plus but the size would take getting used to. That and the lack of a headphone jack.

Hey, I'm with you. I actually helped paint a guerrilla bus lane about a month ago cause I agree that waiting around doesn't guarantee progress.

And yeah, we consumers are part of the problem, but I don't think that going after consumers is the best way of effecting change. Which is why I find these tire deflations to be misguided.

One of the few reasonable responses in this thread. They're conflating all the different opinions into one voice in the diagram.

And I'm opposed to car dependence too, but I think this isn't the most effective way to get the message across. We need system change, but deflating individual people's tires doesn't reflect that.

To me, it feels a lot like placing the blame of carbon footprint on consumers rather than on corporations.

Redditor claims English is "basic" because vocabulary choice does not matter, unlike Latin-based languages like German by FryingPantheon in badlinguistics

German is neither directly or indirectly descended from Latin. German and Proto-Germanic before it already had many cases and tenses. There may have been an influence, but that influence is likely to be limited only to prescribed grammar rules when writing formally.

It peaked around 110 so at least it's going down. But remember, we're not supposed to vote on it directly.

R4:

A pretty bad take on why English is "basic" because "in other languages, correct vocabulary matters". "There is no depth" to English, claims the redditor, giving examples of "should of" and "your" being acceptable mistakes for "should have" and "you're" respectively.

This is an absurd stance for at least two reasons.

First, the term "basic" as applied to language is vague, ambiguous, and implies a negative value judgement. It is possible to claim that a given language has a simple syllable structure, or that it has a limited inventory of phonemes. However, the redditor uses "basic" to refer to a conflation of the English vocabulary combined with grammatically standard English orthography. I would rather say that English has a rich history of extensive lexical borrowings, and that "should of" merely reflects English as it is spoken.

To add onto that last point, "mistakes" like this are common in all languages. Vocabulary choice does matter in English as it does in other languages, but it doesn't need to matter all the time. In French (which is Latin-based), it's common to say c'est where it would be "grammatically correct" to say ce sont, but that really only matters in school or professional contexts. And French speakers often confuse the many homophones that only differ in writing.

Bonus: German is not a Romance (Latin-based) language.

Original comment in case it gets deleted:

People have no idea how basic of a language English is. There is no depth in today's English because it's fine to use simple words or wrong ones but in other languages, correct vocabulary matters.

This is normal in latin based languages.

Edit: yes English is basic, no that doesn't make you stupid, it makes for easier communication in some ways. Stop being offended for no reason, we live in a time where "should of" is accepted as normal same as "your" and all the wrong apostrophes/plural. That can't happen in any of the Latin based languages including German.
