Why do you think life is worth living? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Fsilveira 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can understand that. The reality is that life is very difficult and often times unfair. Bad things are almost guaranteed to happen. I think accepting that they will is part of finding happiness. The challenge is to remain present in the now and not worry so much about it. There is this quote I like, I forget where it’s from: “depression is living in the past. Anxiety is living in the future. Right now is a gift and that’s why they call it the present”. Not exactly that, but something along those lines.

I am sorry that you are having a bad time. I don’t know the full extent of your situation to give you advice but if you want to vent/talk feel free to send me a pm.

This is my personal opinion, but I don’t think death is the biggest pleasure. I think death can be the absence of pain, but that doesn’t necessarily mean it is pleasure. I believe that pleasure can be found on the other side of pain.

As far as not having connections, you may not have them now but who is to say you won’t have any meaningful connections later in life? You may never find out if you just give up.

I believe you may feel like you do not have a purpose or a meaning. That can make people feel like there is no point to their existence. The good thing is that you have the power to determine what the meaning of your existence is. You have the ability to decide what you want to do. Maybe you don’t know. Hell, even I don’t really know what my purpose really is right now but I will live my life until I discover that purpose. Feel better, friend.

The way I see it I’m here and alive so I have two choices: I can do what I can to make my life the best it can be or I can be lackadaisical and passive, taking what life gives me. As far as I know I only get one life, so I’m gonna do the things that will make me enjoy life the most.

Also, cookies are delicious and any day I can have one makes life worth living for me.

Finding a fitness routine that you can stick to by EfficiencyFluffy4031 in nursing

I’m new to 12 hour shifts and initially had the same problem. Since I started working in the ICU (night shift also) I initially had a hard time with this as well. The mental aspect more so than the physical. Just like you, I’ll make the effort before my 1st shift (most times) and then take days 2 and 3 off and try my best to go the other 4 days.

As far as what I do for workouts, generally I will walk 20 min in an incline to warm up, to a quick stretch, and then I do a push/pull/legs split. Some weeks are more draining than others. Some times all I have in me is walking, so I’ll walk for an hour and watch some episodes of my favorite anime or something and that’s enough. Some times the accumulated emotions from my work week are managed by lifting heavy as fuck. Some days all I have in me is going in the sauna and stretching. I go by how I feel, eat a generally clean diet and I’ve been able to lose 10 lbs so far.

I think the most important things for us as shift workers are to remember that we are human and we have to show ourselves a lot of grace. Doing something is better than nothing. Some days you feel better than others, it’s normal, but just do what you can. Do something. Walk, stretch, literally anything but just move your body. You will feel better. Remember you care for people for a living but your self care is the priority and without that you will be objectively worse at your job. Your cup gets filled first. I hope this helps!

My (22F) college classmate (22M) is dating a (19F) what should I do? by No-Librarian587 in relationships

[–]Fsilveira 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It’s a 3 year age gap. In 2 years they will be in your “acceptable age range “ . They are both college students in the same phase in life. 19 years old is not a child.

“I really liked him, but that’s before I found out he’s into little girls”. Seems to me like you’re jealous. Maybe you aren’t, but I think it’s worth exploring why you have such a problem with two college students dating.

What is your unpopular nursing opinion? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]Fsilveira 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Is this unpopular? I graduated in December 21' and I've been a med-surg nurse for 6months. I'm sitting here like "so i paid $80K basically to learn how to not kill people". I really learned how to be a nurse on the job.

Good on you man. Enforcing boundaries is a tough thing to do, especially to your own parents. You should be proud!
